The T-Mac Saga of trades

I have discussed trading for T-Mac then waiving him in the past... so let's give it a spin again. T-Mac is finished in Houston; put a fork in him, he's done.

There has been speculation of the Rockets being interested in a K-Mart (plus a two of the other top paid Kings players) for T-Mac trade. Honestly, KMart is worth more than an expiring contract, but if the Rockets took other long term contracts (i.e. Beno, Nocioni, Garcia) it MIGHT be worth it... seeing how KMart is always hurt. Especially if draft picks are involved... or maybe a third team??? Here are some scenarios I got to check out on the Trade Checker... I would love some other ideas, though.

KMart, Nocioni, and Beno for TMac; this deal would give the Kings a ton of cap space at season end... but can they attract a worthy free agent? Will Chris Bosh come to Sac? How much would the Kings have to overpay him?http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5346732

Nocioni, K9, and Beno for TMac; Houston would never go for this... if they did, by all means.

Kings get: Peja and Okafor
Houston gets: Nocioni, Thomas (or Beno) and Martin
New Orleans gets: TMAC

I have no interest in T-Mac. I just don't think he fits into the future of the team.

However, a 3 team deal for a BIG makes sense...

I agree... I think the Kings should trade for him and waive him... he would have no use as a player, but as an expiring contract.

Are there any other bigs on the block besides potentially Okafor and Dalembert?
 
No way. Kings shouldn't entertain even facilitating a trade for T-Mac in which Martin moves. All these trades are basically using KMart as a means to Salary dump productive players for defensive bigs... I ask what is the point?

Those bigs can be had with K9 + incentive alone.
Noci can fetch expirings on his own or is a nice piece in a trade
Beno is a productive bench player who can start for this club in stints - as long as he keeps his play up his contract isn't the albatross it once was...
KMart should be apart of a trade that brings in a true star big, not Dalambert or overpaying for Okafor.

Marcin Gortat (Unhappy with playing time), Carlos Boozer ($$$), Anthony Randolph (?), Kyrylo Fesenko ($), Chris Bosh (If Toronto thinks he'll walk for nothing...) Memphis big to make room for Thabeet (?), Sean Williams (NJ...), Eddie Curry (dumb/no rpg), Elton Brand (old), Robin Lopez (nuts?), Antawn Jamison (If the Wizards finally commit to break up their team and move towards a rebuild)...

Getting T-Mac has nothing to do with how he fits in the future of this team. Any interest in T-Mac from our part is to get his massive expiring contract and shed some salary, creating more cap room to go after not one but potentially 2 max players.

Which "true star big"? Bosh is an ender this season and Dwight Howard is going nowhere. Yao Ming could be washed up... what about Al Jefferson? He seems untouchable, though... however, you could trade Martin + Greene or Rodriguez for him...

Gortat would be great if he wasn't BYC (nearly impossible to trade)

Anthony Randolph may be 6'11" but by no means is he a big man. He's a stick figure. If he and K-Mart got in a fight, my money would actually be on K-Mart.

Gortat's contract is a concern. Boozer would probably walk at the end of the season unless we paid him a huge contract. I don't think Memphis is ready to get Thabeet in the spotlight just yet. Sean Williams and Eddie Curry? No way. Elton Brand is breaking down and his contract is about 60 million dollars more than he's worth right now. I don't think the Suns would even consider trading Lopez (he's one of their two legitimate bigs). Jamison solves absolutely none of our problems.

Al Jefferson, Bosh, Amare, Brook Lopez are people I'd push for Martin to be traded for.. some more untouchable then others.

I think anything but using martin to target a player of that caliber would be dissapointing. The other guys can be had for almost expirings and helping create cap space for other teams...

I don't disagree...

I'm just saying that in order reach T-Mac's salary number you would have to either give back expiring contracts and or include a young "quality" player.
Kmart, Noc, and KT would do it.....

I'm not sure if I'm Houston that I would rather have Kmart instead of Ariza......

Actually it DOESN'T work on paper since Gortat is a BYC player which means that Magic can only take back something like 2 million back for Gortat's contract.

If we offered K-Mart and an expiring contract for T-Mac Houston would be laughing all the way to the bank with that one. They would be all over it like a cheap suit.

You might be happy but I can pretty much guarantee a whole lot of Kings fans wouldn't be.

If we're going to trade Martin, it's going to have to be something in the ballpark of the Richmond for Webber trade. (Not comparing the players involved, BTW...just talking about the relevant worth of each side of the deal). On the right team, Kevin Martin could be the difference between a first round exit and a trip to the finals. That isn't something you let go for cents on the dollar. Ever...

Exactly, well said.

We haven't exactly been the FA signing Kings, we have been the build through draft and trade Kings. We along with multiple other teams are banking on signing the FA's, but who is to say they will all leave? I'd rather trade for one.
 
HE.. NO. NO deal involving a player entering his prime (Martin) for a player coming off a major knee injury. We are in good shape right now. We dont need to make a move. We only need to make a move THIS year if you think we are a major player in the playoffs.

We have some time to see what this team looks like for the rest of the season. The we lose KTs contract and have some room to play with.

I cant believe people are wanting to trade away Martin. You people are CWWAAAZZZYYY:)

No.

But the salary dump approach to the Kevin issue has never been right. You don't liquidate your best trade piece on a wild gamble. Kevin has considerable value as a player to the right team. You don't dump him for enders. You don't dump him for "flexible pieces". He's the cornerstone to getting something big done that could set this franchise up for years.
 
It's more than rumor that the Rockets specifically want Kevin Martin as the Kings are insisting they have to first see how he does in the same backcourt with Tyreke Evans. So, maybe a trade goes down one way or the other - but not involving Tracy McGrady.

An injury prone Kmart for an injury prone Yao Ming. Of course, Kings have to throw in the likes of Nocioni, Thomas and probably Hawes. I know it still might seem far-fetched, but stranger things have happened. Oh, and since Yao would likely not be available until next season we get as the Rockets throw in that fine Modesto product, Chuck Hayes:eek:

Using a realGM trade checker to prove your point is not really a smart move, especially when you chose the "Contrinue" option to ignore the trade restriction that came up!

FYI Gortat is a BYC player and his BYC expires July 1, 2010. Until then his outgoing "trade value" is $2,927,000 which means that the salary Orlando can get back for Gortat cannot be greater than 125% plus $100K which would be roughly some $3+ million.

Try using a trade checker that doesn't allows you to over-ride the restrictions that are in place with player's contracts like ESPN's trade machine

There are plenty of teams out there that stunk last season that have a player making a decent amount of money. It does not take away from that players value. Martin was a very good player on a very bad team, not his fault.

Can martin make up for that thing we called a front court last season?
So yes, CRAZY for even thinking about a Martin trade until after you have seen how he plays with this current team and budding superstar.


How many games did we lose due to poor FT shooting a few weeks back? Doubtful we lose those games if Martin were available.

There's no guarantee we are even IN those games if Martin is available. Those close losses, and indeed all our success this season were build on heart, hustle, toughness, and esprit d' corp.

And there has not been one successful franchise in the history of basketball, at any level, that was making decisions because of FT shooting. I mean really. What's next? Horse?

I am quite sure the Rockets plan is to pair Yao and Kevin in an inside/out combo -- same thing we should be trying to do. I also think Chuck Hayes, amazingly enough, might be next to untouchable. Like ourselves that squad is winning 100% on spirit, toughness, and intangibles. Its why they banished their own sofite returning SG -- did not want to disrupt. Its really hard to see them trading the core guys that are defining their underdog scrap right now. Battier, Hayes, Landry etc.

Makes you wonder if Petrie and Westphal are planning on banishing our injury prone returning softie SG.
 
If tmacs contract is expiring this year, ide do it simply for that reason. I do no want to pay martin if he's going to miss half the season every season here on out. I say we move martin, move forward and do work in free agency 2010
