I like Jermaine O'Neal and have for a long time. He does have a huge contract ending after next season which would be good as well.

I would do it, especially if we could get a 1st rounder from it also.

For this trade, I'd much rather just deal directly with Miami for Marion as he's expiring now rather than another year out. Miami can't give us a first-rounder until 2011, though, because this year's is spoken for.

I'm not really high on bringing in Jermaine - I don't see how another year of him fits in with our rebuild.

I would do this trade in a heart beat. Even though JO's knees are a concern he is still fairly productive player and give us something we havent had in a long time, given he can stay on the court. Maybe he can teach thompson and hawes a thing or two about shot blocking and post play.

The thing about bringing in JO for the same time period as Miller and Thomas, is

1. You get laziness off the roster and K9,

2. You have two players salary tied up in one player allowing the Kings to keep an additional young prospect picked up in the offseason.

3. You get Jermaine O'Neil for some period of time, if he works out, you resign him. If he is busted the whole time, you let him walk or sign and trade him.

I agree, just Marion would be better, but the Miller/K9 for Marion deal hasn't happened yet for a reason. We can hope it will happen, but how appealing is that to either organization?

I think Miami is wary of O'Neil's knees, otherwise, the deal would have probably gone down by now. Miami does not need temporary pieces like the Kings, but a way to build around their star.

Thomas, yes, but Miller might be a good, longer term piece for them... he can feed the ball to D Wade all night long and would cost much less to resign than J ONeil.

The trade as is does absolutely nothing for the Kings because O'Neal's contract ends the same time as Miller's and KT's. But like you said, if we could somehow get picks from either team, it's probably worth trying. But a healthy O'Neal might actually get us a few more wins..

And you are suggesting that they throw in a 1st round pick as well?

I'm not a fan of injury-prone players as a source of production, so suffice to say I wouldn't want to trade for Jermaine O'Neal under any circumstances...and he's expected to exercise his option for his big dough next year, although we'll have his contract off the books by 2010 after that. Notice I'm not even talking about is actual game...because he's undergone a mass deterioration of sorts--just a shadow of his old self, and can't even stay healthy. Yeah, it helps us to sack Brad Miller and Kenny Thomas (which may be good unto itself) and gets us a name center who was once very athletic and can still defend extremely well, but that only matters if he plays, and uh...he's not playing much. I think we can parlay that into young talent, draft picks, or contracts that expire after this year instead.
