The solution 2! Knicks, Raptors, Kings

Starter
Clearly, draft picks would need to be traded to the Kings from one or both teams, but NY gets a 2010 ender, gets rid of Lee (who is going to walk) and Marbury (no explanation needed). Toronto drops JO and gets a serviceable replacement to feed Bosh. Kings get two big enders and a pick(s).

This might actually be a workable trade. The Knicks aren't going to be able to throw in their pick anytime soon because their 2010 pick appears to be spoken for (they've actually traded their 2009 pick, but it's top-22 protected and they aren't finishing top-22). So their earliest available pick would be 2012.

Toronto might be induced to give up a pick if they really think Brad will get them over the top, but they might be the weak link in this scenario.

The Knicks could go for this because it would force some financial responsibility into them in preparation for their run at LeBron. Maybe. On the one hand, Lee is going to want a big extension in the $10M range, and if they trade him away, they can't give it to him. On the other hand, Jermaine would push them about $20M into the luxury tax next year. If they resign just Lee and Robinson they'd still have about $25M in cap space for LeBron in 2010. So as long as they can keep the checkbook closed they have their shot at the King. Doing this trade is kind of like putting a $20M lock on the refrigerator instead of just using willpower to not eat that late-night snack.

We get Lee (not sure I'd really want to resign him for what he wants, but for more like $6M-$7M he'd be great) and if we could finagle an '09 or '10 pick out of Toronto plus a long-future '12 or '13 pick out of NY, how could you complain?

But in the end, I don't know if the other teams would see that as worthwhile.

It is just all about moving each team's problems to somewhere else; the motivation is the same motivation the Kings have to move Brad... it is just not working out like it should... no longer a good match with the situation. I wouldn't mind Marbury on the Kings for a half season if it meant speeding up the rebuild.

Yeah, I'm just saying that if all three teams see it as moving their problems somewhere else, why are we the ones who get to end up with faster cap relief while also asking for a pick or two? If a deal like that is on the table with even one pick we probably have to do it unless there's a better deal out there. But would either the Knicks or the Raptors pony up a pick? That is the question.

Alright, let's see this from the Raptor's perspective. They have Bargnani and Bosh at the 5 and 4. So they trade for more 5 and 4? So they have the honor of paying $20 millions a year to Brad and KT so they can come off the bench?

Second, why don't Toronto just trade O'Neal for Marbury and Lee straight up? If you're the GM, wouldn't you rather have David Lee plus an expiring instead of Brad and Kenny?

You could replace Kenny with Salmons + filler, but I think the Kings would want more back.

Not a bad trade, it may be possible. But I have to disagree that "clearly" the Kings would have to receive a 1st from 1 or both teams. Miller still has value, but he's doing his best to make sure he doesn't with his play lately, aside from the GSW game. I think the trade as is should be ok. I'm still not sure if the Knicks get rid of Lee or not though. I know he's a FA, but he's restricted and they can just match any offer if they want to keep him

You couldn't. Salmons has already turned down Toronto once (at God's urging, no less) and Colangelo has said he doesn't want anyone who doesn't want to play there.

I do not see why the Raps do this. JO for KT and Miller? And you want a pick as well? O'Neal is not giving them that bad of play, although he is out a lot. It would be great but unlikely for the Kings to move KT and Miller for anything of value.
