The Positive Kings Thread

I think it's safe to say there is a lot of bickering going on. Even though the sky is falling everyone needs to take a deep breath, close your eyes and visualize our team playing winning basketball. Now explain in great detail all the positives you felt and what you saw?

Edit: You don't need to do all that (although it would be interesting and entertaining to see what some of you come up with) but it would be encouraging to hear the positives to keep our spirits up.

im staying positive about not having to see Hawes in a kings uniform forever.... im totally over him being here... hes such a wuss... hes gotta get some more strength, a lot more... he getting destroyed on offense at the rim and handled on defense... its more painful to watch than brad miller before he got the boot... miller was at least older and had an excuse but hawes should have so much more to offer at his age...

im also staying positive that having a TRUE CENTER will help free up JT...

Is this really necessary? The guy posts a thread looking for positive comments. If you didn't have any to make, couldn't you have just let it go? Geez, dude. You're only bringing up the exact same things that are being said in any number of other threads. Why not just let this pass?

Sorry, but you're most likely going to be flooded by smart-arse comments from people who have an overwhelming need to rain on others' parades...

There are positives out there but no matter which ones you point to, I can almost reluctantly guarantee there will be someone responding within moments to shoot them down. It's sad, since I think being hopeful and optimistic about one's favorite team is just as valid as the unending criticism.

You aren't alone in your feeling, but I'm just saying I'm not sure how many people will take the time to post their thoughts - as referenced by the first couple of responses.

I will say, however, that I LOVE THIS TEAM!!

:)

There's still a lot of basketball left to play....

bad games? shrug it off walk it off.. let heads cool then move on about it

We are kingsfans we (well most of you guys have) been through worse...

I think that Donte Greene has shown flashes of awesomeness, and I think that his potential is high.

Also, I like Jon Brockman's ability to give us extra possessions. It's fun to watch him steal away rebounds for us.

We complain about our 20 year old rookie who averages 20/5/5.

That's gotta be a positive!
:p

I like all of this years rookies and I'm pretty sure I'll like next years

rookie(s) too. Win some games. Go Kings!!

Hello,
Here to talk some Kings hoops!

First off, we've got to stay positive. A season full of boos is no fun. This team is young. They are going to be inconsistent and they're going to have you scratching your heads sometimes. Now, this team has also been through some tough games. It definitely effects your mindset when you play so well only to end up on the losing end of the stick. I expect this team to shake out of this soon and go on a little winning streak. I believe it will start tomorrow afternoon against the Bobcats. Go Kings!

I'm happy to be so involved and interested in the team again. If they weren't so entertaining I wouldn't be all irritated by the losing.

What it is Gabriel? You will soon find that hoops is just one of the many things you can talk about here. Check out the general sports and lounge forums. This place is generally awesome - and addictive .

If you've been a season ticket holder and Kings fan since five years before Tyreke Evans was born you certainly know how to be positive in the face of bad times. Go Kings! We're gonna win on Martin Luther King Day.

some positives so far are that we drafted well and got evans, casspi and brockman out of the draft.
I really have enjoyed how this team has played against some of the
best teams in the league. the comeback from the miserable 35 point defecit against the bulls.
there are still positives even though right now it doesnt look all that good.
and we will more than likely have kings representation in rookie vs. sophmore game.

I'm really looking forward to All-Star weekend for just that reason. And that's a positive since I haven't really cared about the ASG festivities for quite a while.

:)

Okay, I will attempt the exercise.

Evans brings the ball up the court, heads straight thru the middle for a lay-in. Kevin steals the ball on the inbounds pass and puts it right in for 2. Next play, Hawes swats a shot away away that is picked up by Reke who passes upccourt to a streaking Omri who flushes it with a JAM!!! Time out called by opponents. Oh yeah, baby. GO KINGS!!

Can I open my eyes now? Nah! I like this visualization game. :)

The fact that I expect the team to be competitive and have a good chance to win each game is the best positive for me this season. (Especially after last season)

I will admit that some of that expectation is dampened a bit with the return of Kevin. (and I really like him as a player) I keep hoping the team will either gel with him on the court or make a solid trade with him as a center-piece, and I hope that I'm not disappointed on both fronts for the remainder of the season.

our owner's a very passionate gavin maloof.. and not donald sterling :D

At least we didn't attempt to go for a three pg line-up like Minnisota only to figure out it didn't work and that we have two undersized power forwards and no center.

Okay, so I've read up on a few things in hopes of finding positives in the Kings' current predicament.

Here are the regular season records of the 03-04 Cavs, the 04-05 Magic, and the 07-08 Sonics - now called the Thunder.

Cavs: 35 - 47
Magic: 36 - 46
Sonics/Thunder: 20 - 62

Now, as you may or may have not noticed, these were the years the 3 teams drafted future superstars Lebron James, Dwight Howard, and Kevin Durant respectively. While managing to Draft the best players in their draft class, these teams failed to finish with a record even close to .500 and won 30+ games or so (with the exception of the Sonics).

Today, the Cavs and the Magic are title contenders while the young Thunder are in the playoff hunt and are one of the most improved teams from last season.

Our team is currently facing a Similar situation, we've managed to draft the best player in the Draft in Tyreke Evans - a rookie averaging 20/5/5 and is the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year. We are also 2 games shy of matching our win total from last season (17) before the all star break.

Point is, these type of struggles are to be expected. We are one of the youngest teams in the league, we have a new coach, and have dealt with injuries left and right which have caused constant reshuffling of line-ups.

If anything, it is remarkable that the Kings have 15 wins right now (plus a few more if not for Laker ref bail outs and late game choking episodes). We have talented young players in Tyreke (superstar in the making), Hawes, JT, Donte, and Casspi. We also have one of the league's best scorers in K-Mart. All of these players will be prominent in the rebuilding process one way or another. Whether they remain in the team this season or next is still unknown, however, it is good to know we have young talent which we can use in trades to further rebuild and improve our team.

So yeah, take it easy guys. I know our expectations may have heightened after the early season wins and brilliance (Evans game winners, 35-point come back) and we even wondered if we had a chance at the playoffs (no). But we have to understand that rebuilding doesn't take place overnight. We were without direction the last 2 or 3 years and only now have we found an identity and a rock (in Evans) which we can build our team around. Just like the teams I previously mentioned, it also took them time to build around their young superstars and just look at them now. We can follow suit, we just have to be patient.

Remember, we are just at the beginning.

A message from a 21 year old from the Philippines who's been a Kings fan since 2002. Go Kings!

lol one of which probably will never play for them.

their gm said he'd make a SPLASH in the draft.. boy did he jump into that water chained with a ball and chain altogether with the franchise.....

i mean really 3 pgs!?

I tip my cap to a young 21 year old Kings fan who has wisdom beyond his years. Excellent post and very well written.

in the philippines basketball is almost a religion we are a basketball country after all.... kings gerard you must be a varsity player or a real student of the game.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll say I'm no varsity player although I do play hoops from time to time. I haven't have so much time to play though since I've been in college.

As for the student of the game, hell yeah. I've been a basketball fan since I was a kid.

college will do that to basketball time indeed. A rebuilding team builds basketball IQ no doubt. because of this fans are thinking ahead, or being meticulous with each player's playing style. I talked to a laker fan before they said lakers will win as long as they got kobe. and I followed it up what if he gets old and retires.... silence then followed by "well get a superstar in free agency"

ah bb Iq regresses when you win, win, win.

losing teaches us something because if we always win what do we learn? give this young team enough time to gel and mature... its not smart to tamper with an ongoing experiment you're just resetting the rebuild

the good sides have been said we are young, we are games away from improving from last year and MAY improve more. so lets go kings!

I'll be happy if the kings win 34 games this year. That would be quite an improvement. And who knows, maybe we'll get lucky in the draft for once and get a higher pick than what the odds say.

I took a deep breath
I learned how to type "stupid" correctly (thanks guys)
and I love this team and am sure that the future is bright.

I nevertheless still think that we should try to play as a team and pass the ball and find the open man.
Its a pity if we start to devide this forum between europeans and native americans..in the end we are all kings fans.
