i'm not sure i'll tune in, becuase i know brokeback mountain is going to win and i really didn't like that movie. walk the line got robbed for a best pic nomination! WTF! GO JOAQUIN!!!!!!!!!

How could 'Walk the Line' not get a Best Picture nod?? Blasphemy!! But at least 'Crash' got a nomination. That is what deserves to win, but I bet it will go to another film. It's what film is popular, not what film deserves.

i'd love to see crash win best pic, but brokeback crap is probably going to win. that movie sucked!

i'll tell you who else got robbed: harry gregson-williams for the chronicles of narnia score. how the hell did that not get nominated?!?!?!

Firstly, Oscars need to be moved back to late March. Bumping it up just turns it into the Golden Globes Pt. II.

Secondly, though I really liked Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback Mountain, that is a lead role every bit as much as Heath Ledger's and I hope that their putting it in the supporting category doesn't screw Clooney out of an award -- he's been too good for too long to miss out.

Lastly, it would have been nice to see some direction/visual/technical appreciation for Sin City. Just because a film isn't completely serious in tone doesn't mean it's not worthy of some awards -- but, that's just a re-hash or last year's Kill Bill rant.

Personaly I would cancel the Oscers this year due to lack of films worth paying $9 for, not to mention unworthy of recognition.

I don't know about that.

There were several films this year that I would have gladly paid $9 to see. Had I the opportunity, that is.

Capote, Good Night And Good Luck, Junebug didn't come here at all. Syriana was here for all of a week (no, I'm wrong, it's back here with ONE daily 10:05 PM showing), Hustle & Flow was here for probably two weeks, but I doubt if there was a total of ten screenings in either week.

The stupid Underworld sequel, however, I could drive to the theatre at any time of the day and chose between about three screens all starting within five minutes of my arrival. Blech.

 Wow. To each his/her own, of course, but I have the complete opposite opinion. My wife and I thought Crash was unbelievably overrated and cheesy (although I appreciate the issue it attempted to tackle). And, I thought Brokeback Mountain was excellent. Great cinematography, phenomenal acting, excellent screenplay.

But, as always, I completely respect your opinion! :)

Agreed, but I think Paul Giamatti is a bigger threat to Clooney than Jake Gyllenhaal is.

Capote, Good Night and Broke Back were all good films and yes I did a see see a few others this year that good to, but my point was more that compared to other years this was jsut not that great a year of film and a HORRIBLE year for Hollywood films.

i definetly agree with those 2 things about brokeback mtn. i though the acting was fantastic, and the cinematography was breathtaking. i just hated the storyline. way too depressing for the men ( how they had to be apart and hide their feelings most of their lives) and the women ( that poor wife! she had to live with that her whole marriage until she got a divorce. it was too sad for me.

I agree, Sin City does deserve some recognition in that category (I heard parts were filmed here in Austin-know if thats true?) I wish Cinderella Man got more attention and at least a best pic mention.

I found it funny that folks are interested in visiting Wyoming...truth is ''Brokeback Mountain'' was filmed in Canada...sorry cowboys & cowgirls!
Just the same I liked the film. It was hard seeing all the heartbreaks, but sometimes love is pain. I agree Walk The Line deserved something more...a fine tale about a trend setting man...Cash. The movie sountrack is a great listen. Really got into a groove with Crash & Hustle & Flow...films with character....who's hosting?

Sin City was entirely filmed on a green screen in Rodriguez's Austin studio.

You're nuts.

I'm sorry, besides not personally finding her appealing I am not a fan of her work. Outside of her effort in 'Kids, and Sin City' don't really believe she is a especially talented actress to boot. Got a friend obsessed with her and never shared the enthusiasm(well, that and she TRIED to over shadow Jessica Alba who is much more my forte look wise, not saying she is a great actress either)

Fair enough.

Still think you're nuts. ;)

I agree with you completely. This year's list of nominees are 95% very disappointing. I think it will be the first time I am not excited about the Oscars, and it's my favorite show of the year! The only decent nominations are for Crash, by far the best movie of the year. I haven't seen Brokeback, but I haven't heard one good review from anyone I know who have seen it. They said it was just good cinematography and acting, but very dull and boring otherwise.

This is why the Oscars have become so irrelevant -- I know for a fact that The Dukes of Hazard came out this summer and yet does it get even ONE nomination? No!

Don't despair, it did pick up some Razzie nominations.

who needs a stinkin oscar when they are given the prestegious razzle? ;)
How can you give a Razzi to a film that had such imortal lines as: "We prefer the term Aplachian Americans (to Hillbillys)" and "Do those legs come over easy?":o

totally

this was a VERY weak year for movies.

I agree that Walk the Line should have been nominated for Best Picture. The movie that I feel really got robbed is Cinderella Man. It was just a great, great film and Crowe should have been nominated for Best Actor. Paul Giamatti was excellent as his manager as well. I think the Academy is out of touch with people as is hollywood. There are only a handfull of films that are noteworthy this year. I am a big movie fan and it was a disappointing year for me as a moviegoer. Then they snub some of the best films and actors to boot. I plan to not watch it as it seems to get more boring every year. If they brought Billy Crystal back as host I might have to tune in.

Unfortunately, votes for that fine film got split amongst two other great remakes from last year; Bewitched and Herbie: Fully Loaded.
