The Age Of Devastation: How Tyreke And Cousins Spell A New Era Of Destruction

A nice little blogger piece what potentially could be with Cousins and Tyreke. Too bad we can't taste a bit of this in the Summer League, but we wait till October.

You want to know the best thing about Geoff Petrie?
He doesn’t make the same mistakes everyone else adores making. A year ago, he sat and watched as Tyreke Evans, at 6-6 with incredible length and explosiveness, drifted on down the board and fell in his lap at the fourth overall pick. This year, he cocked his head to the side as team after team passed on arguably the most efficient offensive force in college basketball, an absolute beast of a man...

What's not to love about having physically dominant players at the two most key positions in basketball?

unfortunately it appears that the three of you reading this guy's blog simultaneously has crashed his server, and you're going to remain the only ones who have ever seen what he said

Make that four...however, I just read it again so it is back up and running.

It takes four people being on simultaneously to crash this guy's made in Bangladesh server, and you go back to hog up one of those slots a SECOND time?

What kind of selfish bastard are you??

A selfish bastard with a motive, baby.

I'm glad someone else (and by that I mean presumably not just another Kings fan) is excited about the future lineup but I think he shortchanges Petrie a bit by suggesting that both Evans and Cousins just fell into our lap. While Cousins was certainly a no-brainer at 5, Petrie took more than a fair amount of heat when the Evans selection was made, a few media people went out of their way to try and shortchange Reke on the ROY and even one or two holdouts here still cling to some issues about it.

"Cousins is the Blaster to Evans’ Master, the Hammer to Evans' Sickle."

He's basically outlining the exact reason all of Arco cheered when they heard DeMarcus Cousins' name announced on draft day. Because the potential these two guys have as a duo is good enough that is almost doesn't matter who the rest of the team is. You get those two positions right -- C and PG -- and you're set for the next decade. Not only are our two new franchise lynchpins playing the two most important positions in basketball, but they're both unstoppable forces at their respective positions. How often does any team have a chance to pull off a coup like that in consecutive drafts? Very rarely.

That's not the question. The question is this: How often does a team get it right?

We're all reasonably certain that we did get it right, but the jury is still out. Even still, our optimism is a huge indication that we hit a home run two years in a row, and we're well under the cap. We're on our way, and hopefully we'll have some results shortly.

'I ain't tryin to silence the critics, the more they talk the prouder I walk'

DMC's latest tweet...sounds like he's dealing with everything quite well so far.

Can't wait to see the Kings' 'Hammer and Sickle' in action!!

Does anyone else think its bizarre he used the symbol of communism as the main graphic in the piece? I get that he later made the Cousins hammer to Tyreke's sickle reference, but I think we could have done without the imagery.

Not that its a big deal either....I just thought it was an odd choice.

"it will feel like you’re getting beaten by giant leather bat wings and having barrels thrown at you by Donkey Kong at the same time."
LOL

We should go with something that has less historical baggage, like the Blitzkrieg Attack. ;)

Actually, when we were brainstorming Reke/KMart combo nicknames this time last year, I suggested Thunder & Lightning, but the one I kept quietly to myself was Hammer & Sickle. However, Tyreke was going to be the Hammer in that instance. :p

It's a new age of Kings basketball, no more Mr. Nice Guy!!...Take no prisoners!!:D

I kind of preferred MasterBlaster anyway. :p

Although of course as always there is the problem with half your audience not even being born in time to get that reference. Hell, actually the hammer & sickle might be almost as obsolete, having last been relevant about the same year that movie came out.

We are that much closer to victory, comrades!
