That's Amare: Suns give Stoudemire contract extension

The Phoenix Suns have given All-Star center Amare Stoudemire a contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2010-11 season.

The Arizona Republic reports, based on this season's salary cap, Stoudemire will receive $72.6 million over five years, with the extension starting after the 2005-06 campaign.

Stoudemire, the 2003 NBA Rookie of the Year, averaged 26 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season. The 22-year-old was second in the NBA in field goal percentage (.559) and first in free throw attempts (795).

The 6-foot-10 Stoudemire was the first player to enter the NBA directly from high school and win its top rookie honor.

The ninth overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft, Stoudemire has averaged 19.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 217 career games with Phoenix. With Stoudemire's help, the Suns reached the Western Conference finals last season, but were eliminated in five games by San Antonio.

he doesn't have webb's hands or passing abilities yet...and he's not a great floor leader yet, either. but the keyword is "yet." the dude is so friggin young. he's one of the best PF's in the nba today, and he's still got so much room to improve. he's gonna be a beast and a half in a few years if he continues to expand the facets of his game. even if he doesn't develop the whole package that guys like webb (of days long since past) or KG have, he's still a monster of a player. it's definitely a smart move from phoenix.

Stoudemire will be dominant and awesome no doubt, but team-wise, Nash is 31/32 (not in relation to Amare really, but the team and what has revived the Suns). They'll have to trade or draft a PG (quality) in the next two or three years.
