Yup...but there MIGHT be another surprise in store today too

This is my understanding as well. But nothing has been clarified in any detail, just the way MSE wants it.

This is the problem for people like me who like to understand the inner details. It IS clear that that the local partnership (the whale or whales and a bunch of guppies) will need to see the exact break down and then either match it or be a little higher. Heck, even saying our group needs to match or be a little high er is an assumption. The BOG may see value in keeping a 60+ year franchise alive as having value. Let's not bust a gut trying to figure this out. We can do nothing more than make certain assumptions.

I realize #NBAKings fans will be #WhaleWatching today at mayor's press conference. But I think the seas will be quiet.

Yeah, I doubt we'd see the whales announced so soon. I bet it is an update on the local donors or something to address the other couple points he brought up. I don't think we can expect to get all the details and percentages figured out this quickly. They need a little bit to crunch some numbers and get some agreements figured out. I'm curious to see what it's about!

I don't think he would call a press conference to say they've got a few more local donors. I have a feeling hes going to officially drops some big names.

Today is a new beginning with hope for Kings fans.

The only troubling thing right now is that the Maloofs already signed the contract and if the BOGs reject the sale/relocation, many problems can arise with lawsuits. We have to hope that doing the right thing is more important then avoiding a prolong court mess to the league.

Thats the most frustrating part about this... I actually wonder if these pr**** (Maloofs) are proactively trying to pull this team away from its fanbase.. trying to relocate team multiple times, no regards for selling to local buyers etc.

There is a way to avoid the court drama and reach a situation where everybody is somewhat happy... League approves the sale of the franchise to Seattle to honor the existing agreement, while immediately granting Sacramento an expansion franchise to the Burkle group (cheaper than 525M!), contingent on the arena deal being signed and with a stipulation that the city loan is repaid in full and the Kings are allowed to lease STA for the next 3 years wihle the new arena is build. Sacramento keeps the Kings name and history; Seattle reinstates the Sonics, NBA pumps up the value of the franchises (via Kings sale and higher expansion franchise fee), Maloofs are banned from the NBA.

Sure, it sucks loosing DMC and some of the other fan favorites, but we get a clean slate, lottery pick(s?), plenty of cap space and some experienced players via an expansion draft. And, to be honest, a clean slate wouldn't hurt, seeing what a mess this team is in at the moment.

This may be the most feasible ending to all this.

So another no news conference. I guess the only revelation is that they are going to choose between the big money guys as the equity and show runner.

He seems a little down. I'm wondering if they thought they would have news to share and something shook that. Not bad news, just trying to understand the conference purpose and his mood.

He's also throwing in a lot of cautionary language.

Not sure what's up with this press conference, actually. I had a lead on what MIGHT have been announced, but something sent him into scramble and fill mode...not sure why.

It feels like that. Scheduling something the day after the last one to not add anything new seems weird. I hope it wasn't bad news and just that they weren't as ready to share good news as they had hoped.

No, I don't think it's because a bad thing has occurred...I think it might be more of a scheduling issue sort of thing that might have come up.

I'm guessing it wasn't big whale info released but rather a name like CWebb getting added to the mix and that maybe he wasn't able to make it? Again, no panic. Just felt odd
