Thabeet & Tyreke: Who Will Have More Rebs at Season End?

Thabeet or Tyreke? Over the last six games, (Memphis has played one more game than Kings so far), Tyreke has 29 rebs to Thabeet's 25. My money is on Tyreke to have more rebs than Thabeet at year end....

It wouldn't surprise me. Rebounding has never been one of Thabeets strengths. In college he got rebounds that came to him, but never seemed to have the same instincts for rebounding as he did shotblocking.

Because Tyreke should get a lot more playing time than thabeet, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tyreke pulls down more boards than Thabeet. 7'3 projects don't tend to get that many minutes on the court to be that effective.

Sigh. Thabeet's been about average on the boards for a big in preseason (4.1rebs in 16.7min, i.e. about 8.2 in 33.4min, about 11.5 per 48). Compared to Evans' 4.8rebs in 30.5min. Thabeet would easily win this, except for the obvious -- he's got major competition for his minutes up front (Gasol, Randolph) and looks to maybe be a 15-20 min guy in his first season, while Evans has no credible compeition for his spot and should be going 35+.

I think its reasonable to assume that if Thabeet played 35 minutes a game, and being 7'3" he would get more rebounds than Evans by accident.

Maybe a fairer contest would be between Thabeet and Brockman if their minutes are similar.

That's not a fair contest; Brockman with one hand tied behind is back and two legs tied together can get more rebs than Thabeet. Like you've mentioned, Thabeet does not have a nose for the ball. It's likely a weakness that will follow him for the rest of his career. Thabeet can block more shots sitting down than Brockman standing on a trampoline, but there's no way Thabeet can out-rebound a rebounding specialist. Imo.

And, conversely, Thabeet has blocked more shots in his average game than Brockman has in his average season.

This thread is all about apples and oranges, though, so we have to expect it to be silly.

A better question might be " Who will see more MPG, Thabeet or Brockman?".
