Team USA Closing in on Adding Rondo, Prince, Green, Curry, Evans

He'd have a lot less space and would be facing pure zones. He'd, imho, have a lot more trouble than when facing NBA defenses.

Yeah, I think that would be the real problem -- they get one look at Reke there might be 5 defenders standing on top of each other in the paint.

Omri Casspi gonna join the israeli national team though, in 2 months and will be back to Sacramento only in September...
Udrih wont play this summer in Slovenia because they have already appiled to the EuroBasket

Yeah, that was mentioned before. And like I said at the time I don't like that either, but I do understand how much more important NT work is to countries outside the U.S., and that a lot of the NBA players from Europe and elsewhere are stars their NTs depend on, as opposed to Reke who would just be a minor cog at this point.

Tyreke is already signed under Nike supposedly. Its just a matter will he just be one of the sponsored players that gets his his own PE shoe of the mass lines such as Hyperize or Hyperdunk. But if he makes another jump next year, say... 25-5-5 and makes the all stars, then they'll probably give him his own shoe like they did to CP3 with Jumpman.

They're already making his own shoe :D

The best way to attack any defense is dribble penetration. Always. How many points hes able to score is going to rely on him developing a pullup jumper around the free throw line.

I'd say dribbling into a zone is one of the worst things you could do. It's all about ball movement and passing, which dribbling interrupts.

zone breaks down against shooters, if the offense is built around driving and kicking then it potentially works in your favour if teammates can knock down shots

He'd probably average 20 assists a game but less than 10 points playing starter minutes in international ball.

The ball moving and passing are one of the keys to beating a zone. At some point someone has to attack the zone off the dribble if you dont want to shoot 3's all day long. Zone defenses are meant to make teams shoot long range shots.

"After my short break from basketball, I’ll get back to the gym to work on my game – jumpshots, midrange, passing – just trying to make my game better, be a better leader and improve for next year. My workouts will be in Los Angeles with my trainer LaMont.
I’m hoping to get called about getting added to the USA Basketball roster because it would be a prestigious honor to represent our country and the Kings on Team USA."

its on Kings.com in Tyreke's blog....:(

I'm not saying that he'd be ineffective against a zone defense, all I'm saying is that his game is more suited to the NBA, where dribble penetration is a lot harder to stop, especially with the rule against handchecking in place. All the other players, except for Rondo, are far more natural fits for the international game.

Well I don't think handchecking at least would have much effect on a tank like Reke -- he is built for that kind of physical play. And on defense allowing that kind of play would be a prohibitive advantage for him, just as it was for the Derek Harpers and Doc Rivers back in the day. Makes it harder for the gnats because they are getting bounced around.

Reke's really the first King in forever that you could see suiting up for the '94 Knicks and not even blink.

I don't like it, but on the bright side being around the talent he will be around hopefully it can help drive his motivation higher and help give him direction in the type of leadership a championship club requires.

I still do like it, I think it solidifies his superstar mindset, and I believe in him to get the work done he wants done regardless of his association with USA basketball.

This ain't the end of the world folks, and in retrospect it will be the right thing.

When the guy and his tema have an acknowledged goal of being the league's MVP there is no extra motivation needed. All there can be is interference with the process.

Is there an NBA MVP that did not have USA Basketball as part of their process?

Dirk Nowiztki, Steve Nash??

The difference, the key difference, is that this is Tyreke's first NBA offseason. He just finished his rookie season - he has more things to work on than any star that is usually recruited to the national team. There was no fuss when Brad was invited ... Because frankly we didn't give a rat's *** whether he improved much or not

They played against USA Basketball with their own teams, so they did have USA Basketball as part of their process.

What people are forgetting is that our USA teams used to be college players, before even playing in the NBA. Guys like Michael Jordan, David Robinson and many many more saw great careers despite playing for USA Basketball at young ages.

I have mixed feelings about Tyreke's invite.

On the one hand, I'm very glad that he got the invite along with Curry. Just from a national exposure point of view, it would not have been good for Curry to be invited and Tyreke not be.

I think we can all agree that Curry's game better fits playing the international style as he's such a great shooter. He also has less things that he needs to work to improve as he's a far more finished product.

Tyreke has to work on his shooting skills and he knows it. If he loses the ROY award it will be because of his lack of outside shot. The fact that the ROY award may be close is due to his lack of outside shot.

So as long as this invite does not impede with his ability to work on his shooting I'm fine. But if his jumpshot still needs a lot of work, the worst thing that could happen is for him to have to play in Turkey this year.

I guess we won't know for certain if any damage is caused until we see what his shot looks like in pre-season.

It's not the end of the world if he doesn't get injured. If he does get injured, then it's nuclear holocaust.
