TDOS: Top 13 Playoff Games and Moments - Games 7 and 6

Purple Reign

Starter
7. Los Angeles 106, Sacramento 102
Game 6, 2002 Western Conference Finals
Staples Center, Los Angeles
May 31, 2002

Without question one of the most controversial post season games in NBA history. The box score tells the story. 40 free throw attempts by the Los Angeles Lakers, including over 20 attempts in the fourth quarter alone. Shaquille O’Neal absolutely dominated the ball game scoring 41 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and controlling the paint in the fourth quarter drawing Chris Webber, Vlade Divac and Scot Pollard into 17 out of 18 combined fouls. The play of the night was an elbow to the nose of Mike Bibby by Kobe Bryant and Bibby was called for the foul. The call set the tempo for a referee dominated game that played into the hands of the Lakers and forced a deciding Game Seven.

6. Sacramento 115, Dallas 113
Game 4, 2002 Western Conference 2nd Round
May 11, 2002
America Airlines Arena, Dallas

The most entertaining game in a most entertaining series. Mike Bibby’s driving baseline lay up with 12 seconds left in overtime sealed a two game sweep for the Kings in Dallas. In my opinion, the greatest road victory in Sacramento Kings history. This was considered Chris Webber’s best post season moments as a King. In the two road victories Webber averaged 30.5 points, 12.5 rebounds shooting a blistering 66 percent from the field on a series of mid range jump shots, low post moves and drives to the basket. Webber however fouled out of this game late in the fourth quarter with the contest still hanging in the balance. Bobby Jackson was also the star of the game scoring 26 points including 8 crucial points early in the fourth quarter that help the Kings regain the lead after falling behind.
