Vacation time is upon us. If you could choose one destination in California, what would it be?

Y'know, yesterday I was like why did I bother looking to see who Mr. Poopie Pants was on the dogs vs. cats poll but today I'm inclined to agree with him. I am obliged to go several times a year to see family and that is enough for me.

I chose amusement parks, specifically in reference to Disneyland. It's the only option that I don't already go to frequently when visiting friends/family.

This summer I have two planned Cali vacations - one mostly in the mountains and one at mostly at the beach. Just waiting for best time since some destinations are often as good or better in late summer than earlier.

1) Over to Snow Mountain Wilderness for camping for a couple days. Then on into Mendocino Nat'l Forest via Upper Clear Lake area for hiking, camping, ending up at beautiful Russian Gulch State Park for camping, hiking, biking, and beach combing.

2) Drive straight through to San Luis Obispo County out to Avila Beach - right at 5 hrs from Sac. A real hidden gem and much better IMO than more crowded, colder, foggy, Morro Bay or Pismo Beach. The cliffs behind Avila Beach reflect sun down onto nice stretch of beach keeping it often ideal weather when cooler temps prevail at other nearby beaches. Ending up by spending time in next door Ventura County at friends and relatives.

How to vote? Both outings have beaches with one also having mountains as a big part. Ok, I selected - ocean/beaches.

Ihaven't been to Disneyland since 2000...before California Adventure...and if I ever go back, it'll be too soon! :p

I grew up in San Diego and took it for granted as a kid that I was 15 minutes from the beach, but now I that I live in NoCal I enjoy annual visits to my timeshare in Carlsbad. It is fantastic to hear the ocean waves in bed.

Now if Yosemite specifically was a choice I'd have picked it because it will take your breath away for sure when the waterfalls are raging, but that aside, the southern california beaches are where its at for me!

I urge everyone to go to the mountains!
/plug for personal agenda

Being up here already, I usually like to go to the desert where there is a pool close by. If I am going to the Ocean, it is outside of Cali. The best part is always coming home to Tahoe.

But of course, the beach!! Went from 1/2 mile in SCruz to 1/2 block in Solana Beach. Lived at 2,000 ft elevation above SacTown for some 14 years. Loved it but this ole Cancer the Crab had to get back to his roots. Still, a favorite vacation spot is Zihuatanejo in Mexico, due south of Mexico City in a small bay where the waves lap in our own little Margaritaville. :D

Just climbed Mt. Shasta this weekend. I spend a lot of time with family up in Siskyou County, and also enjoy Tahoe, so it's the mountains for me ;)
