Hey Guys-
Just wanted to drop by and congratulate you on drafting a guy that has a HUGE chance of giving you back-to-back Rookie of the Year awards. Demarcus is as good as they come on the court and as fun and funny as they come off the court. He's a beloved kid here in the bluegrass despite only being here for a few months.
Some of you are probably just getting to know Cousins' game and have (understandably) not yet learned about how he's been treated in the past. To make things succinct, he made a few enemies during his days in Birmingham (through NO fault of his own) and ended up being so ostracized that he and his mom had to move back to her hometown of Mobile during the latter days of his high school career. The kid had never really felt accepted and loved by people anywhere he had played; he had always been The Bad Guy. When he finally showed up in Lexington, he was still pretty reserved around fans and soon gained a reputation for always trying to look tough in photographs. A Kentucky blog (kentuckysportsradio.com) soon poked fun of him because of it , so the writers convinced hundreds of fans to start coaxing and teasing Demarcus into smiling for the camera. Finally, Boogie figured out that people didn't hate him and weren't afraid of him and he started to open up to everyone. It was amazing and heart-warming to see the 290lb teddy bear finally be able to be himself and be comfortable in his own skin.
Over the course of the school year, Cousins showed his sense of humor (you'll be learning about his "Peter Parker swag") and became more than beloved by fans. "Boogie", "Big Cuz", "DMC", or "The Artist Formerly Known as Boogie" is absolutely going to be missed. My best friend's little sister (who's about 9 or 10) literally cried when Cousins said he was declaring for the draft. "Mom, I'm gonna miss Boogie SOOO much!".
Take care of our boy and make sure he feels like Sacramento is his home. Remember, this is a kid who, until only a year or two ago, always felt like people hated him and didn't want to be around him, so pardon him if we Kentucky fans haven't managed to break all of his nervous habits in that regard.
Best of luck over the coming years and make Boogie one of your own. You could very well end up with a Hall of Famer if you do. (And this is coming from fans who know their basketball...)
Oh, and PS: There are about 2 million new Sacramento fans here in the Bluegrass. Now we have a legitimate reason to hate the Lakers besides them having Walton and Kobe.
Cousins showing off his grill after having two teeth knocked out in a blow-out win over Arkansas where he had 10pts and 9boards in the first 9 minutes of the game...
