Support for 6th thread

Gargy, thanks for chiming in, my friend. Yes, I decided after 37 years of destroying my lung tissue (and God knows what else), that it was time to improve my lung health.

OHSacFan, I have tried many many times to "cut down". It works for a short while, but then I find myself smoking as much (or more) as before I started cutting back. So, it was cold turkey for me. The cravings are intense, but I figured that the sooner I got the nicotine out of my system, the better. Thanks for your prayers, and if I can give you any inspiration, I am honored.

I'm being real wimpy about going cold-turkey. Uncle isn't helping much.:D He forever offering me one of his! But this is about you!!!! YEAH!!!!

At the age of 78 yrs old and having smoked for probably more than 3/4 of her life, my Grandmother decided to cut back on smoking, if she can do it any one can. That being said, I get the sense that you are a very strong woman. I'll be praying for you 6th! :)

Thank you, my friend. :)

wtg-YumYum! Now if we could just break you of the impersonating hoodie habit. ;) :p

Well, I'd like to believe that the hardest part is past....not that it is easy at this point.

Thanks to all my wonderful family members here at Kingsfans.com. I can honestly say that you all helped get me through my toughest times.

Update:

I have been a non-smoker for: 1wk, 3days, 8hrs, 11min and saved $46.53 during that time. I have not smoked 310 cigs during that time and saved 1day, 1hr, 50min of life.

on behalf of your friends, let me say THANK YOU...you've just made it possible for the time you spend with us to be potentially longer. :)

WAY TO GO 6TH! WOOOOHOOO!!!

I was just going to ask how you were doing, but I read your update from a couple of days ago. We're all REALLY proud of you 6th! Woooohooooo!!!!!

Thank you, my good friend. Thank you for the support.

Well, here it is a weekend ( a 3 day weekend at that) so it gets a little harder again. That is only because I am not so busy at work that my mind is totally consumed. However, hopefully, it will not be near as difficult as last weekend because the nicotine withdrawal is done. Now, I just have the habit itself to deal with.

Update:

Nonsmoker for: 1wk 5d 16hr 56min 47sec
Amount saved: $57.18
Cig not smoked: 381
Life saved: 1d 7hrs 45min

Thank you kindly, dear rhuber. You're the best!

As he says, it has now been........drum roll.......

...2 whole weeks since this 1 1/2 pack per day for 37 years smoker had a cigarette....not one smoke....not one drag....not one whiff. HURRAY!!

And, you guys do not realize how much help you all were in my reaching this 2 week milestone. In fact, that is what prompted my "I love you guys/gals" comment in another thread.

Update:

No smoking for: 2wks 12min 47sec
Amount saved: $62.96
Cigarettes not smoked: 420
Life saved: 1d 10hrs 55min

Okay, my reward for my 1 week milestone was to take my mom to Sunday breakfast. And now, I am about to reveal my 2 week milestone reward. I had the following custom made for me as my reward (actually 1 turned into 4). Anyway, these were custom made for me. Please, do not use these for yourself.

Whoa, those Icons are awesome! :D

Thanks, The Freak. Yes, I am very pleased.

Edit: I went back and edited the avatar thread because it sounded harsh and that was not my intention.

I am so proud of you, my friend.

I am also totally impressed with the avatars. While they're all good, I think the "It's a team thing" is completely and utterly appropriate!

Here's some more support from the No Smoking Day Website.

The Health Benefits of Stopping
The health benefits of stopping smoking start almost immediately:

  • 20 minutes: Blood pressure and pulse return to normal.
  • 8 hours: Nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in the blood are halved, oxygen levels in the blood return to normal.
  • 24 hours: Carbon monoxide is eliminated from the body and the lungs start to clear out the build up of tar.
  • 48 hours: There is no nicotine left in the body. Taste and smell are greatly improved.
  • 72 hours: Breathing becomes easier, bronchial tubes begin to relax, energy levels increase.
  • 2 - 12 weeks: Circulation improves, making walking and running a lot easier.
  • 3 - 9 months: Coughs, wheezing and breathing problems improve as the lungs have room for up to 10% more oxygen.
  • 5 years: Risk of heart attack is halved.
  • 10 years: Risk of lung cancer is halved.
  • 10 years: Risk of heart attack is at the same level as non-smokers.
  • Medium to long-term: Risk of developing lung cancer, other cancers, heart attack, stroke and chronic lung disease is reduced - the sooner you stop, the sooner your risk starts going down.
  • Medium to long-term: Stopping smoking at any age increases your life expectancy, provided that you stop before the onset of serious disease. Even if you have developed a disease, you can benefit from stopping as your body will be under less strain and be able to fight it more easily.
  • Medium to long-term: A smoker who has suffered from a heart attack can halve the risk of a second heart attack by stopping smoking.
  • Medium to long-term: Ten years after stopping smoking an ex-smoker's risk of lung cancer is reduced by 30 - 50% compared with that of a continuing smoker.
  • Medium to long-term: Smokers who stop before the age of 35 have a life expectancy not significantly different from that of a non-smoker.
  • Medium to long-term: Smokers who stop between 65 and 74 years of age have a better life expectancy beyond 75 than those who continue to smoke.
  • For life:
    • Reduce stress
    • Any physical activity is easier
    • Don't tire as quickly
    • Improve sense of taste and smell
    • Improved skin

I drove to St Louis this past weekend. It was tough because I usually smoke a lot in the car on long drives. I chewed on Twizzlers (and pretzel sticks) all the way down (and back). :D

Update:

Non-smoking time: 3W 9hrs 5min 3sec
Amount saved: $96.20
Cigs not smoked: 641
Life saved: 2D 5hrs 25min
