Summer League Roster

Just saw the Summer League roster go up (here) and I have to say I am a bit disappointed. McLemore is the only player that we will for sure see on the Kings this coming season. Our 2nd round pick McCallum will also be playing. Normally I like watching these games as we have more Kings players present but it seems as we are getting a bit older team, we will have less participants. Thoughts?

No, not likely. If you are feeling pedantic though go back to talking to Gary.

I don't have a clue what you mean. I thought the question had to do with who can be on a roster. Anybody can if they can play NBA quality basketball whether they are in the summer league or not. If he meant the specific player, I would have answered "I don't have a clue."

I apologize then, your response came across as a smart *** response :) He mentioned one of the players by name so I was asking if Mbawke is someone who could make it on our team. As in does he fill a need we have, and is it possible he is good enough to grab a spot.

Believe me I try very hard not to rile people up and when you read my notes, keep that in mind. I am not here to have a pissing contest. I thought you simply didn't know. There is a huge difference in knowledge amongst posters and I try not to assume anything.

I don't pee very well anymore.

I like this ... a lot. It's an indication that our front office wants to look for buried treasure, for players who slipped through the cracks and might fill a need. They are literally leaving no stones unturned.

Did you get a chance to read the link? Thought this was a good sign: Of the 15 players on the roster, seven worked out for the Kings during pre-draft workouts – C.J. Aiken, Will Clyburn, Chris Evans, Shane Gibson, Trevor Mbakwe, Nick Minnerath, and Trent Lockett.

Yep. I think they want to see more of those players in game situations. Bottom line for me is that this is such a welcome change from what we've become accustomed to.

GO KINGS!

hey hey!!! :)

I'm lurking in this neighborhood now!

Looks good. Heard of a few of those guys. C.J. Aiken, Will Clyburn, Trevor Mbakwe and Jorge Gutierrez. I doubt any will make the roster, but it's a possibility that those four get camp invites so we can see them against NBA talent.

I have decided to go back to picking on you. spudfan is no fun. :o At least our FO has a clear purpose and that is a welcome change. In fact, it's quite remarkable. I don't know what other teams do but to try out people for the summer league is very, very compulsive and good.

Dang I was hoping for Carick Felix too make our squad. Hes the next Jimmy Butler. Im glad Jimmer didnt join the team this year lol. He cant afford too lose any confidence too lessers.

Lighty is a nice bball player. After Ohio State, he played in Italy in a Euroleague team and, last year, he won the French League playing for Nanterre (MVP as well), despite the team was ranked just #7 during the regular season.

This is deliberate, isn't it. You may soon misuse too two many times.

Just a thought, if we were to blow out our cap space by singing Reek to 11 mill, bringing in a near-max vet at the 4 and extending Cousins to a max contract, then you will need to fill out the rest of the roster (2-4 slots) with CHEAP contracts. Summer league is a good place to find guys that might be able to play in the NBA but were skipped in the draft.

Aside from our picks I've heard of Clyburn and Aiken. Ben should have a field day, and Ray is gonna surprise some folks in the area - I think he'll stick

#32 - Drew Gordon (F) 6-foot-9 - New Mexico/USA - R

Don't sleep on this guy. He's the older brother of one of the top 5 freshman coming into the NCAA (Arizona), and a great rebounder.

One way to cut out the squabbles and guessing is to go the Summer League in Las Vegas and watch these guys. Where else can you get 6 games a day for $25 (plus taxes and fes I'm sure) and find decent hotel rooms for under $30. Great seats for every game, in fact sit where you want to, down close in first row right behind player bench or on the 50-yard line 5 rows up, etc. Fun and great time to see all the FA's and draftees in game situations.

From Sacto the quick way is down I-5 and cut over on 58 thru Bakersfield, Tehachapi Pass, skirt around Mojave, past Edwards AFB to Barstow to pickup I-15 to Las Vegas. But the most fun and fabulous route is up and over the Sierras on I-80 to Reno and take 395 south to 58 then east to Barstow, etc. Have done both numerous times. Now its just a quick shot for me up I-15 all the way.

He played great defense in his last year with New Mexico. Very strong rebounder his whole career. Has nice jumper and was shooting .752 his last year in college, but he's not a natural shooter - only .360 on his jumpers in college. His biggest problem is lack of length - only 8'7.5" standing reach, and unfortunately that's a kiss of death for semi-skilled bigs.

He played for my team in Serbia for half a season. Good rebounder, nice athlete, has no jump shot! Bottom line, I don't think he is NBA talent even though he thinks he is. No chance he makes the roster.

Big fan of CJ Aiken here. He's awful at rebounding, is obsessed with bricking jumpers, is super skinny, and is on the old side, but based on his touch at the stripe there's some potential here, and he's excellent at blocking shots without fouling. I see him poor man's Brandan Wright at work here.
