That would be amazing! Summer League is paradise for basketball junkies. I'd actually rather have the Summer League in Sacramento every year than the All Star game. Tickets to summer league are affordable for one thing and better basketball gets played there. I'd make a point of going every year if this happens. Vegas is a lot closer to me but I hate that place with a passion. Maybe even as much as VF hates LA. :eek:

Interesting, but Las Vegas has two venues going at the same time. They have the Thomas and Mack Center, and the Cox pavilion, which are connected to each other by the refreshment area. So there's always two games going on at the same time. Unless they were to use the Kings training facility, and not sure how they would set up seating.

Salt Lake City and Orlando only have one facility though. I could see one of those leagues (Orlando?) moving up here or, additionally, the foundation of another summer league here in conjunction with the other three.

Also, while obviously not as close as Cox and Thomas and Mack are, they could probably use UC Davis's arena as a second facility. (Hell, Arco's still standing)

They use the Magic Practice Facility as the other venue...I don't know if theirs is connected to the main arena as well, but there is a wide double-door entry to the practice facility on the Main Concourse of G1C. The old barn and old Practice Facility are still standing, and I think the old practice facility is still in use by the team for the Dance Squad.

I don't think the barn formerly known as Sleep-Train-Rubber-Band-ARCO is actually legally allowed to be used as a venue for anything any more.

Moving the Vegas Summer League to Sac would be amazingly awesome, you know, for those of us living in Sacramento. But like Baja I do have trouble seeing how the logistics would work. I haven't fully stuck my head over into the practice facility, but you can actually see the court from the concourse at G1C and it seems like it doesn't have the height to set up sufficient bleachers to parallel Cox Pavilion at UNLV. Access to the practice facility also looks a bit less open, so getting from the main floor to the practice facility would likely be a lot more crowded than trying to get between Cox and Thomas&Mack. One of the great things about the VSL is that you can jump from one game to another, decide which of the two concurrent games you want to go to. And thinking outside of the box and proposing the gym at Davis (or for that matter Sac State) would basically mean two completely separate venues - pick a venue for the day, not jump back and forth. I don't think that's a great idea for the Summer League experience.

But man, I'd love to be able to to a morning drive to downtown rather than the long haul to Vegas. Maybe someday we can pull it off.

This is correct. The agreement between the Kings and the city contained a non-competition clause. I don't believe ARCO could even host a graduation event.

Logistics of 2 concurrent games aside, I should think a big reason Sacramento would even be considered is it's amazing fan support. SL games would draw nice crowds here.

Yes, I believe that is correct. But I think that the non-competition clause was for the benefit of Ranadive's Group. So I gotta imagine they would waive that if it meant they got to host the summer league.

I believe the building has been gutted. I know the chairs are gone. The very things that made it obsolete for the Kings would be the same things that kept it from being used for summer league IMHO. Considering the relative attendance, they'd be better of using the Hornets gym as a second location if needed.

Yes that would be a problem. lol. I probably should have thought of that pesky logistical portion.

According to @carmichaeldave, the article by Scott Howard-Cooper was written a long time ago and there has been no recent discussion of the possibility (to his knowledge). Guess we'll have to just keep hoping. :)

The Hornets Nest (at CSUS) has about 1,000 seats, the Pavilion (at UC Davis) has about 8,000 seats.
