Summer League 2023 open thread

I'm fully predicting he'll make like six all star games, and play like 50% of all potential games in his career.

He’s obviously skinny but doesn’t look stiff or frail to me. Has he had injury issues in France? Obviously the grind of an 82 game season is a different beast.

14 says “THIS IS MY MOMENT TO SHINE” as he drives up the length of the court, looks at Vic an open, then hoists a three presumably shouting “KOBE!” as he takes the shot.

He's had a few leg issues in the past, but I don't think this past season. The main problem is his height, the NBA has been filled with guys that height having their bodies break down, even dudes who weren't necessarily frail-looking.

Edit: And with the dynamic way he plays and just overall in today's NBA, they're going to make him do a lot of more things that will put stress on his body than the Manute Bols and Yao Mings of the past.

As he learns he can’t bully people anymore think he can adapt to just out-quick his stronger post opponents?

For sure, he's also a 19 year old rookie big, pretty much all those dudes that don't look like James Nnaji or Jalen Duran last year struggle with NBA-caliber physicality.

In terms of his quickness, it's like what? AD and JJJ that probably can stick with him? Maybe?

Initial reaction is I like the idea of him playing with a big to start and then he closes for you at the 5. Let someone else bang with the big boys while he's more of a free safety/weak-side shot blocker on D. Seems very very comfortable defending on the perimeter.

Be nice if they ran a set for Wemby. They're just tossing it to him and saying "OK dude, go 1on1". Not working.

Like the willingness for him to pass and find his teammates, the shotblocking is going to be good and the agility is just crazy for a dude his size.

Glad Popovich is finally getting rewarded with something worth coaching.

If the theory of Kerr taking over when Pop retires he'll be in good shape to pass Phil's 13 combined player + coach championships
