Thanks for the info slugking...even though its winter it hasn't rained for almost a month so I appreciate the heads up!

Weather in Placerville

Placerville is supposed to get four days of rain. So far, we have received nine inches of rain at my house since September 19. I don't think it is cold enough yet to snow today. The low last night was 29, but it warmed 10 degrees when the clouds moved in this morning.

Is 9 inches above/below normal? It seems like it hasn't rained that much lately but it rained a lot earlier this fall.

Placerville normally gets about 35 to 40 inches per year. I think the historic (circa 1850) range of precipitation in Placerville is from 15 to about 85 inches.

Annual precipitation on the western front of the Sierra Nevada increases by about one inch of mositure for every 100 feet of elevation. We live at 2,100 feet. Sacramento is less than 50 feet elevation. Therefore, we should get about 20 inches more rain each year than Sacramento. That's about right.

Nine inches of precipitation between mid-September and mid-December is not surprising. We could go two month with no rain now. You never know. It seems like rain comes in bunches around here.

85 inches...wow that was a wet year!

It is currently snowing very gently here in the forest. Quite frankly, I don't think there are many sights to compare with a forest of beautiful pines and fires lightly dusted with fresh snow.

I have a story I had posted on the old site a long time ago about snow and snow shoveling. If I can find it, I'll have to share it again...

:D

Just started to rain here up where I am at about 4,200 ft. Temperature is about 38 degrees, so we should be seeing snow here shortly.

Raining and blowing pretty hard here in Chico. My satellite went out last time when the downpour got too strong. :( I don't know about the rest of you, but I always sleep better when it's raining and blowing a bit outside.

Hope everyone stays safe.

I left my house this morning it was clear blue skies, I came back this evening to cold, wind and rain....I like the cold wheather, don't get me wrong. But its not the most ideal wheather when you are trying to put up and secure holiday lawn decorations, or when you have made plans for the next two days that involve you being outside for a good portion of time.

Just got a call from my daughter who is sitting on a veranda overlooking the beach in Naples, Florida. She understands why all the old people from NYC move to Florida. It's 48 degrees, blustery, and ugly up here right now. Like a cow urinating on a frozen, flat, rock.

I prefer to think of it in a romantic sense and a cow urinating kinda ruins it!

I have to diminish the scene because I'm not there. Very petty, I know. This is the first really nice place she has gone. Usually it's all work.

The snow plow just went by the house, blade down and headed up to LaPorte. We've had about 3 inches of snow so far. The winds are getting very strong and I've had to go outside and clean off my satellite dish twice already.

I'll throw another chunk of wood into the ol' stove and give thanks that I'm not the one outside having to drive that plow.

;)

Still waiting for the bottom of this weather maker to hit the Big NO, Good news is that I can have a fire in the fire palce when it rains, bad news is that I will have to leave my Triumph at home for a few days.

72 Spitfire... Not exactlya show car but a very relialbe daily driver that ALWAYS puts a smile on my face! Could see a Trident or Boneville in the future but historicly I don't do too well on two wheels.

so windy right now that i cant sleep

i live upstairs and the place is shaking

About six inches of snow until it turned into rain. Now the front of my house is rather like a GIANT slushee... Sure glad I don't have to go anywhere today.

:D

Wow, that's great! Go to one of those discount food stores and buy five gallons of blackberry syrup and a bunch of frozen strawberries. Spray the syrup all over the front of your house, throw gobs of strawberries around, buy a bunch of straws and little plastic spoons, and invite all your friends over for slushies during the next kings game. Hit it with a second coat of Smirnoff and maybe some of us would show. Probably someone with purple hair.

LA Girl - Yes, except for Wednesday and Friday when I have to leave the comfort and security of my little home in the forest and actually venture out into the real world.

quick dog - Great idea! I think I'll remember that. ;)

After a brief lull this afternoon, it appears the next wave of storm is set to hit right about game time. I don't mind the rain, the wind is okay as long as it doesn't knock over power poles. The drifting snow, however, could become a real issue. My favorite pair of Moon Boots (in purple, naturally) have given up... I am now faced with the daunting task of wading out into the snow to wipe off the dish with nothing but sneakers or my Eeyore slippers. (The purple slippers NEVER go outside.) Hopefully, the snow line will stay above me for the early part of the evening.
