Stern's Stern Words - MUST READ!

Sacramento unfortunately would top the list of teams to get contracted from the league if this is something they're serious about. Talk about a worst case scenario for Kings fans especially with how promising this team looks to be in the next 2-3 years. Even if you aren't a Kings fan it'd be sad to see a team get disassembled that is on the verge of being a contender.

I know Bricklayer doesn't like me to post links, but here's my humble solution to the arena problem. I'm only doing it for the public good.

Can we stop with the website pimping? How are you not banned?

Anyway...good find Fresno. Thnx

I seriously think Stern is just using scare tactics. The Maloof's are owners. Do you honestly think they would vote to do away with their own team. Do you think the players union would vote for less teams which means less jobs for players. If you were going to contract some teams, what would you use as a measuring stick to decide. A team thats in a good sports town, but doesn't have a proper arena? Or a team thats in a town where the arena is empty all the time. Whats the criteria?

Sacramento has proven that it can fill up an arena when they have a good team to root for. What about Atlanta, where you can hear a pin drop sometimes. As I said, I wouldn't get too worked up right now. Contraction came up the last time they reached an impass and ended up with a lockout. Its just scare tactics..

Says his optimism for a new arena in Sac has 'faded completely.' Also talking about CONTRACTION.

Sac is on high alert in my opinion... and I'm worried...

Sad thing is that some of the rest of that is good news, or rational news in my mind. I don't think they'll get ahard cap, but the idea that even if they did they would give home teams some way to have an edge resigning their guys. And the obvious idea of potentially adding a franchise player tag in the wake of the LeBron thing. Those could be huge points for the Kings going forward with Tyreke..but with Stern now making it obvious he's lost interest in the Sacramento arena tomfoolery, something had better happen damn quick or its going to be naaheim, or Kansas City who get to benefit from it, not Sacto.

As for contraction, yeach, that I would not worry about. That's just strongarm negotiating tactics. Saying to the players lok, we need you to take a 1/3 pay cut. Oh? Don't want to do that? Well then, our smaller franchises aren't going to be viable so if you want to keep getting paid at today's numbers, well we may just have to contract the 4 worst off franchsies and shave 50 union jobs in the process. Sorry about that. Now, about that pay cut...

In a Bee article on Contraction, Gavin Maloof when told of Stern's comments, said no way! Its not going to happen to the Kings.

There's no way any teams will contract. This is a stupid strong arm tactic by Stern. Because those teams even if they're losing money, are worth A LOT of money, and no owner pays 200-400 million dollars just so their investment can vanish into thin air thanks to a jerk of a comissioner. If he's serious about this the owners would most likely just vote him out and get a new commish.

It's a move against the players to get them to agree to lower salaries.

I know but it's basically full of hot air/an empty threat because he won't try contraction. If he actually did he wouldn't have a job anymore. Like I said, those owners aren't going to let their million dollar investments vanish into thin air. It's not happening.

They would of course have to arrange some sort of buyout of contracted upon owners. It would be that vs. the sustained losses year after year in the coming years.

Contraction is just a scare tactic. Not when franchises sell for hundreds of millions of dollars and there is a waiting list to buy them. It's a scare tactic and not a very good one. If it were my mad scheme, I would threaten the players with a limit of 8 guaranteed contracts on each team and 4 non-guaranteed contracts. Cuts down on salaries and lets teams be frugal and take care of their top players. The players do not like less job openings and the owners do not want less teams. If you owned a team, would you stand the chance of losing several hundred million? It's pretty silly when you start thinking about it.

All along I felt that Stern really didn't put all that much effort into helping Sac get a new arena. I don't think he really cares for this organization in general and only beloves his big market teams, Stern is and always will be a con artist, IMO.

Stern's personal appointee, John Moag spent a couple of years on trying to get an arena deal done. He actually stayed in Sacramento for several months learning every thing he could about financing and politics and the laws here. That was no small effort. You really can't fault Stern for not giving a good effort.

And the Maloofs have paid millions in costs upfront for studies and consultants. They've certainly tried just about everything over the last 10 years. Actually, the Maloofs inherited the efforts to get a new arena from Jim Thomas, when they bought majority ownership.

Unfortunately the Sacramento city and county and citizens are shoving the Kings out the door.

You won't be getting any traffic from me. If you have a take on the matter feel free to post here.

lol how is he not banned yet? he's clearly sidestepping the forum censor w/ a url redirect. (i know this because i had a vbulletin forum that had a word censor. it was used to block spammers from trying to sneak in their website urls every chance they got.)

I don't think you will be seeing any more posts from kingstalkingpoints. Brick was trying to get him to see the light.......

no way the kings are going to be contracted the cousins evans duo is too early to break up I mean If there's a team that needs to be contracted havfe to be the T-wolves I mean Khan really messed them up...

I don't wish and hope for bad things... I really hope the kings settle this arena thing

Memphis, Indiana, and New Orleans are also on the block. Gotta think the Kings have a better chance since there are better markets they could relocate to instead of fold completely. The Pacers and Hornets are struggling with ownership issues as well as arena/attendance issues, so I would guess they are more likely to fold than the Kings, who don't have as many things wrong. The Grizz can't fill seats, period. They have been at the bottom of NBA attendance records post-Gasol's playoff teams.

I hope contraction is a threat to motivate the city to get off its butt and build a new arena. I went to ARCO last year for the first time since like 2003 and that place is a mess.

This is the sad conclusion I have reached as well. If they move I will have no ill will towards the team, the owners or the NBA at this point. Everyone tried and was blocked at every turn. I did not support the sales tax measure but there were plenty of other reasonable offers on the table. This is Sacramento's national identity and if the power players in town are too stupid to see that I don't know what to say.

I have to say that I'm conflicted about all this. I know the Sacramento fans don't deserve to lose their team, but it's a 20 minute drive to the Honda Center for me.

Dude if they moved to your area nobody would go to the games and all the NorCal fans would have no team. Most people in SoCal hate the kings.

I think there is a fan base in Orange County for an NBA team, just like there is for an MLB team and an NHL team. The Angels and the Ducks both had to compete with established LA teams, and they eventually developed their own fan base and have survived to become stable franchises. I think there are many Orange County people that love basketball and would love to be able to root for a real home team. Do you think people from OC like going to LA for games? No, driving to and in LA sucks, and so does dealing with the Staples Center parking lot. I don't think anyone would have any animosity for the Kings just because of some dead rivalry with the Lakers, they wouldn't care. They would be a new team as far as they're concerned.

I made it clear that I was conflicted, but I can't help but feel a desire for the Kings to move to my neck of the woods. Obviously it would be at the expense of a lot of devoted Sacramento fans, so I don't expect any of you to care for my POV.

As I've mentioned before, if the Kings are going to relocate, they might as well do it out of the state of California. That is a Laker nation state, I want the Kings to get their own state with the only basketball team being their own, you don't see Lakers fans like you do anywhere else in Oklahoma City, I see a bunch of blue and white, not purple & yellow. Just an example of course.
