'the vision to make the Kings the NBA equivalent of what the Green Bay Packers have been in the NFL'

What does KJ mean by that? A succesful small market team?
Tony Bizjak ‏@TonyBizjak
Mayor's Packers reference: He means Sacramento is a one pro team town, like Green Bay, with a special relationship with team. #nbakings

so basically if this report is accurate, KJ's ownership group needs to basically come up with around $341 Million? minus the Relocation fees? thats actually not much money

Hmm thats a tough call, that would be horrible if he bought the team just for us to go through a moving process to somewhere else. If he wants to keep them here that is something else entirely.
If he bought the team, the deal would include provision for a new arena in Sacramento AND an agreement not to move the team. I can't find the story at the moment, but this is something Stern and the NBA have been pretty clear about.

Two problems with our theory on this. One, that the Seattle group just wouldn't match the sac group, which they clearly have the financial means to do. And two, that the bog would automatically favor a sac group when there are just as many (if not more) reasons not to.

LeBron got our back! we got this

I do know Mayor Johnson and the city/fans of Sacramento will do whatever it takes to keep the team put. We'll see what happens #NBAFiles

Troy Dishman said NBA will approve Kings move to Seattle and that Chris Hansen will annonce it tomorrow

WTF
I'm pretty confident that Hansen isn't going to go around announcing what the NBA will and won't approve. And if he does, that just might weigh in against him. I've been viewing the non-refundable $30M (and the announcement that it exists) as a bit of coercion from Hansen's side: "You guys are businessmen too, do you want to make a decision that is going to cost me $30M?" And I'm a bit worried that it might work. But if he goes around speaking for the NBA BOG, I can see them turning it right around. "Oh, we're going to approve the sale and move, are we? You're willing to bet $30M on it, are you? Heh-heh-heh."

I think the tweet was trying to say the sale announcement from Hansen would come tomorrow and that the belief is the league will approve not that Hansen would make that claim. It reads awkwardly

With so many outlets saying that the approval is a "slam dunk" for Seattle, and a mere formality, what will happen later in the week when KJ announces the "whale", who can more than afford to keep the team here? If the move is approved anyways, why would this NOT turn into Sonicsgate Part 2? I would think that righting a wrong by creating an equal wrong would give the NBA a public relations nightmare as bad as 4 years ago. That isn't the legacy that Stern would want to go out on.

That is what I am clinging to....

$30 million guaranteed reminds me a lot like the deal between AT&T and T-Mobile.

Deal struck.

Everyone freaks out.

Deal fails at the hands of the DOJ.

AT&T is forced to pay $300 million to T-Mobile.

I really hope KJ and the NBA come through, it makes me sick to read all these national media pricks almost celebrating that the Sonics are back, these are the same people that only like covering the Lakers, Heat and Knicks.

After all this, I hope to NEVER EVER hear of the Maloofs again... regardless of how this turns out. Those shady low lives...just go away

Carmichael Dave on live. If you're panicking, listen to him
Why? After he was fired from KHTK Carmichael Dave never blamed Maloofs one bit, even though blatantly obvious they had devious hand in it. At same time, CD continued to applaud his "fantastic mentor" that all star Maloof brown nose Grant Napear. CD makes sense sometimes and sometimes he doesn't - but often he seems incredibly naive.

That makes more sense. I would not be surprised to see a sale announcement tomorrow.

whether you hate him or not, it's good to have lebron notice how great the kings fan are and how much we love our kings

I personally could use some naive optimism right now...

We got one last chance. I can count 2 teams that will vote for ownership approval and relocation that would be GSW and OKC. Small market teams would be our best allies but it looks as if the owners would love to approval this inflated price.
Uh, Bennett knows the crap the Maloofs pulled. I don't think he would vote for relocation if we have a viable group.

When he and Mastrov got into a bidding war against each other for the Warriors, the NBA was so hesitant about having to deal with the second richest man in the country that they pretty much asked Lacob to make an offer and gave him the team without letting the other buyers know.
I believe it was the Warriors previous owners that had the issue with him not the league.

Another thought, which I don't want to think of, if the Kings leave, as a top 20 market we will only have low level NCAA and a couple of minor league teams in terms of sporting entertainment, which is pathetic

Not a shocker, and not really news. This is basic rhetorical warfare. Everyone knew that Hanson and the Maloofs were hammering out a deal and sooner or later they would make an announcement. They still have to get it past the NBA and Stern has already said that the BOG would hear the Sacramento's offer to keep the team. So here we are with two sides posturing for the NBA. Hanson has decided to go strong and act as if it's a done deal and keep leaking the story about how close they are to being done. This puts the pressure on the Stern and the BOG to make a decision that will "break Seattle's heart again" It is a smart move on their part. Now it's up to Mayor Johnson to leak the stories that it is premature, and drop the name of the Whale, more importantly they will need to put together a BETTER offer.

I hope I'm not feeling more sad in the morning or in few days but this situation is turning from water torture bad to totally 11th hour life-support desperate, IMO.
Imminent domain, anyone? Yeah, right?!

I doubt there is a viable local super group, some mysterious "whale" swimming around Sac or we would have heard of it. The sad truth is, down in the dumps city of Sacramento is insolvent (over $2 billion in debt!) and could actually be forced to declare bankrupcy in not to distant future - like Vallejo, like San Bernardino, like Stockton, etc. The 485,000 citizens of the city (yes, that's all that live in cowtown) need to come to grips with their long mismanaged, corrupt, unsustainable, predicament. Losing the Kings will only make it all stinking worse - yet, another sizeable private employer bailing.

Ultimately, what sucks is that this will turn into a fight between two deserving cities. Two of the best cities for NBA basketball, fighting for one team. Meanwhile, there are many cities (Charlotte, Memphis, Detroit, etc.), who don't even seem to KNOW they have teams. It seems like the only answer is expansion....

In that case, I will gladly take the Grizzlies off of Memphis's hands.

Seattle is the 14 largest market, who heavily support their NFL,MLB and MLS pro teams (they averake 40k + for MLS games and their MLS team WOULD come before the Kings), they have a WNBA team and quality NCAA programs..... I don't think they are hurting for more sports to throw their entertainment dollars at right now
