That scares me more than I even want to think about...

What's the tally on Bowen's take-outs? Does his locker have logo decals on it for each player who has come down on Bowen's "accidentally" misplaced foot?

it's two (about 12 games missed total) out of 4000 defended jump shots. i've got a higher chance of getting breast cancer.

A couple of things, Dave.

First, I don't think you - as a Spurs fan - can ever look at Bowen the same way the rest of the world does. And it's not just Kings fans. You go to virtually any non-Spurs board and you'll find the same kind of comments. So feel free to protest but I'm sure you'll understand when we don't just roll over and play dead because you don't think we're right.

Second, men do get breast cancer.

EDIT: I can think of three players right away - Vince Carter, Steve Francis and Ray Allen. Oh wait. And Jamal Crawford...although, luckily, he didn't actually land on Bowen's foot. The incident was fairly obvious, however, to the point where Isiah Thomas actually called attention to it and might, in fact, be responsible for saving other players from similar fates.

EDIT SECOND: Even, Clyde Frasier has commented on Bruce Bowen's tactic of overextending his foot under the jumper in the air.

^ i know men can get breast cancer. i also know that if i ask about ron artest, 3/4 of the posters will say he's not dirty and 1/4 will say he is but bowen is 100x dirtier. that's my expectation based on experience from other boards.

on any other subject, i could get all the same people to agree that media frenzy can create a myth from a comment.

You can defend Bruce Bowen as much as you like but you're not going to get much support around here.

But, now that you've mentioned it, let's take a little trip around some Internet boards...

i definitely do, and admit it.

i can't knock a respected guy like frazier. i think any bad boy's comments on how someone plays can be written off in a second, and ray allen doesn't mind how his teammates plays (like danny fortson). not that i expect to change any minds.

You have to admit, however, that your tally was wrong, correct?

Marty Burns addressed this point in the current SI, but didn't really get too investigative about it. Part of the article leading up to that point said:

There is no doubt that a player sticking his foot under another player is a good way to throw off a shooter -- and potentially wreck a career. As one Western Conference executive who played in the NBA said: "If you think you're going to land on a [defender's] foot, you're not going to be able to shoot the ball in rhythm. It takes you right out of your follow-through. ... But it's a dangerous play. You can easily get hurt."

Yet the executive refused to say Bowen was doing it intentionally. "I really couldn't say," he said. "I don't know him. I don't know if he was taught or coached or drilled [on how to defend]. But there's no evidence he's doing it intentionally so you have to give him the benefit of the doubt."

Notice he doesn't come right out and say he thinks Bowen is innocent. If anything, the executive seemed to bend over backwards to avoid saying it...

As is par for Burns in some cases, he didn't really say very much but I thought his final sentence was pretty telling:

Yet so far discipline czar Stu Jackson has seen nothing to warrant any penalty -- though he did phone Bowen on Sunday to warn him to watch his feet in the future.

If there's nothing to be concerned about, why would Jackson call Bowen and warn him? Hrm????

first, my tally was one for vince carter and one for steve francis. they eached missed about six games, even though carter claimed to miss an entire season.

jackson didn't follow his own protocol in calling bowen. he's supposed to call the team first. he didn't call anybody else. tim duncan missed 16 games, nobody call sheed about it, and stu has sheed cell phone number.

i don't expect to change anybody's mind. i like to get two points in, effective or not. bowen has a reputation that has grown bigger than anything he's done. most of the people who think he should be banned from the league have done something like it themselves or have a teammate that does stuff like that.

i can understand not wanting to talk about ron or brad during a discussion about dirty play. if grabbing and pulling and pushing are dirty, those guys belong in the discussion. and i think ron's got some suspensions for actions on the court. more than bruce.

Again, I'm not going to be dragged into a discussion of either Ron Artest or especially of Brad Miller. And, one more time, you completely forgot about Ray Allen, who also missed time because of the patented Bowen-Foot Push.

Regardless, I appreciate the discussion. Your team looks good again. They looked poised and sure of themselves and you're gonna go deep into the playoffs again. This time, however? Please don't let Dallas past you. You owe us that much.

What this isn't is a video game. The process of rebuilding a team takes time. And yes, we're still trying to rebuild a team - on the fly- while still retaining the ability to put a somewhat competitive product on the court.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Kings are not in a rebuilding stage. Who on the current roster (besides Kevin) show signs of rebuilding in any way. The only significant thing the Kings have done to get younger and to start rebuidling is getting rid of Skinner and get Monia (who was released) and even then we ended up with Pota... This current crew are at the ages where they need to win relatively soon. Bibby, Ron, Reef, Brad, Kenny aren't exactly young guys. Those are the core players besides Kevin, and none of the young guys show any signs of real promise. if you want to rebuild without trading away everyone and absolutely plummeting to the bottom of the barrel, then it must be done through strategic trade to fill those holes that you have. The holes in the Kings game aren't that hard to see, and frankly shouldn't be so difficult to fill. A relatively athletic REAL big man. Some teams need consistent scorers, some need a floor general, some need a leader. The Kings lack a true big man. I don't think it would be too much to ask to trade for or sign one. besides the Ron trade, Geoff hasn't been very active lately.

I guess our perceptions of rebuilding are different. What I see is a team in transition. We aren't the team we were a couple of years ago and, with a few exceptions, we certainly aren't the team I expect to see in a couple of years down the road. We have players dropping off after this year that should create room for more change...and as I've said many times before I think Petrie looks at this more like a game of chess than an instant gratification thing.

You can rebuild without totally demolishing and I think that's what Petrie is trying to do. It took him several years to assemble the first GREAT Kings team. I think he's trying to do the same thing but with higher salaries on the books, less moveable pieces, etc.

I don't think it's a rebuild as in blow up and start over (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition) so much as a redo (While You Were Out).

WOW, I just figured out that the KINGS were in Sacramento before the year 2000, talk about memory block! LOL Been sniffin to much diesel smoke I guess.
