There's excelent and then at the other end of the scale there's crap. Big gap in between. I have watched his career from college till, and his post game is very good. Maybe not excellent, but certainly not crap. As I have stated before, he hasn't had an opportunity to really show off his post game yet. He's only 19 yr's old for Gods sake. Go back and see how well Kobe played his first year in the NBA, and how minutes he played. Watch some old film and see if he looks the same way now. And before anyone says anything, no I not comparing him to Kobe.

I don't think he's slow. In fact, he gets up and down the floor pretty fast for a big man. I've noticed quite a few times he runs down the floor and he's either unguarded in the paint or the man guarding him is out of position, giving Spencer excellent inside position - that is if the guard holding the ball (oftentimes Beno) would just pass him the freaking thing. The most spectacular play of the Lakers' game for Hawes was not the blocked shot near the end of the game - it was racing after the blocked shot and managing somehow to get it before it was out of bounds and tap it to a Kings player. That play wasn't even acknowledged by Grant or Jerry, but without doubt it was the play of the game. That's quickness for a big man to do that. Spencer's biggest physical liability is that he is not a quick jumper. He has to gather himself before he jumps. But, I believe that his high BB IQ compensates somewhat for the lack of jumping quickness. He'll be just fine on the defensive end.

Garbage? Don't think so, that's just wrong.How can you expect him to have moves like Amare? He is neither that strong nor athletic, and he never will be. For a center, he's not that slow. People are expecting too much.
I'm ecstatic that he's showing this much heart and he is really showing that he can be a good player in this league. He has been one of the bright spots this season, and his shotblocking and rebounding in limited minutes are a warm welcome. He's really surprised me. I'm kinda glad Noah was off the board now.
 
Why not start him at PF for the rest of the season?

Wow.. you know nothing about basketball.. Seriously.. Hawes was considered the best post player in last draft, and the best center with post moves out of the draft in years.... YEARS... You do know what post play is right? :rolleyes: He has demonstrated a lot of those post moves for us this year as well... You sure you are watching the SACRAMENTO Kings?

Last year at Washington I saw a lot of him at Washington as well, and he was a great post player. Just didn't want him at first because I didn't like the idea of not bringing in a PF when that was our weakest position.

You are right. I think a lot of us want that.. Not sure why they aren't. Miller seems to play well with Spencer, and Brad doesn't post much if at all, so they wouldn't get in each others way..

Theus pairs him with Moore a lot probably because Moore isn't anywhere around when Hawes is on the floor. Moore usually sits outside and cuts hoping to get the ball passed to him, or runs in and tried to get an offensive board when someone fires a miss.
 
I don't want to see Hawes play at the 4 because his future isn't as a 4, IMHO. It seems like some people around here have become over-enamored of shifting players out of position and I can't think of very many times where it's worked out. Hawes is good at the 5; let him learn to play alongside a 4, not in place of one.

i would say the same thing but besides the laker game it kinda seamed like all he did was hack up 3s

We all know Miller excelled at the 4 spot when Divac was playing the 5.

I agree and no doubt Spence is going to be playing more from here on out. Miller can play the 4 effectively (perhaps as good or better than 5) with Mikki a reserve for him and projected starting center Hawes.

This urgent need to shuffle things around and put players out of position just so they can get more time on the court isn't practical and rarely works out. As far as Brad playing the four, that was a younger Brad. Our Brad right now is suffering from a bruised tailbone. My guess is that Hawes will be seeing more time on the court anyway and they're going to continue to evaluate Shelden.

Patience should be a keyword right now for Kings fans. This is the perfect time for coaches to evaluate players and get Petrie all the information he needs before Draft Day.

he had all the information he needed last year. our power forwards stink, our coaches have been incompetent, miller is not strong enough for a postgame, salmons cant play off the bench, artest is still causing trouble and garcia is still running around like a blind chicken. what else is there to evaluate? its one thing to have patience, but its another to have patience when you know things arent being done Correctly.

Plus Hawes is a bit too slow to play the 4.
 
I have always said that i hate Miller playing the 5 because he is not imposing around the basket. It drives me nuts when other teams attack the rim and miller is standing right there not doing sh!t. However playing Miller at the 4 would be a good idea because his strengths are finding cutters and shooting his little 15 foot jumper. Spencer starting at the 5 will be a good idea because its going to happen anyways and might as well get his feet wet now.
 
I agree with playing Miller at 4. Just like the old days with Vlade.
So Mikki will just come off the bench, and Kings will no longer own the worst starting PF in the league. LOL!!!!:D:D:D
 
Good game by Hawes... He performed well in his first start. His defense wasn;t anything spectacular, but he did show a willingness to defend down low which is a plus.

He's the only player on the Kings where when he was in the game it was all even.. +/- was at 0.
 
Well, I was only able to watch the second half of the game tonight, but by the box score, it seemed like Spencer outplayed Darko.

I'll admit it, when we drafted Spencer I was less than pleased. I saw all the teams around us taking athletic big men, and I thought we got stuck with Joe Kleine 2.0. I guess I'll be eating crow now.

Congrats Mr. Hawes, I look forward to watching you play for years to come.

Reason I thought bad things when we drafted him (which of course I was dead wrong in thinking and admit it) is because (not trying to be racist) how many white guys, especially big men, that have the type of game that Hawes has? How many white Americans are any good? Then I thought to myself... Basketball is more popular than ever, and people that normally wouldn't get the chance are now able to play.
