Spencer Hawes ... or more properly titled Mike Bibby

Wow........did we miss his low post moves vs portland.

atleast we didnt get beat like the knicks when they played boston the other day 101-61.

Even though it is preseason where is bibby, he had 1 good game. his 3-10's are getting annoying.

also we are worried about rebounding......we need to worry about layups.

sorry guys lil fusturated.

Our team, with no Kevin and no Ron, on tired legs, is going to struggle.

I was still happy to see some extended time for Greene, Watkins and a little time for Shakur.

A back-to-back early in preseason is no good for anyone. The're not in season shape yet, new coach, bunch of new players, and after a heavy effort the night before. Missed layups were the most glaring problem. I counted 7 by mid 3rd quarter and most by KT and Mikki. Doesn't necessarily win the game but like the 14 missed FT in the Dallas game in Las Cruces it loses games.

Also proved the value of both Kevin and Ron Ron, our offensive and defensive leaders by example. Just as well they didn't play and rested their dings. Mikki did seem to get more involved down low defensively.

The really poor shooting, 2's and 3's showed how tired they were.

This is a throw away pre-season game much like the first one. Let's see how they recover on sunday against the same team. I'll look forward to seeing the team in Las Vegas for their last pre-season game. It still may not show our rotation but it will be getting better then.

Hawes is a Major League Gabber

Man, that kid can talk! His conversation with Grant and Reynolds was the most impressive thing in last night's game. The kid is only 19 and he has the poise of 29 year old and better articulation than Napear. If the kid can play half as well as he talks, he's going to be great. If not, maybe we've finally found a new play-by-play announcer. Move over Grant...

Bibby doesn't have that sweet jumper anymore.

There is a bit of a concern there for me -- one way to interpret Bibby still being on the Kings is that we were hoping he might rebound this season + drive up his trade value. Well...he's shooting .308 in the preseason so far. .308. In pretty good minutes too (27mpg). He's had some slow starts in the last few years, but coming off a career worst year when he shot .408, this was not what you wanted to see in preseason. No idea what the deal is, only having gotten to see one game. But...it wasn't Muss apparently.

Is he taking good shots? I always felt like his biggest problem last year wasn't necesssarily his shooting but his shot selection.

Of course, he really tore up the preseason last year and shot unbelievably, so maybe this is actually a good sign.

Agreed...It's a win-win situation. ;)

I heard Spencer say that when the doctor checked out his knee recently, that he had a "good looking" piece of cartilage that is the result of his microfracture surgery.

Feel like I just got tricked into reading this ranting post by a misleading title... ha ha :p

But anyway, it's just pre-season.... and missed layups by KT was a usual scene last year and the year before that. He just lost his offensive touch it seems.... At least he can still rebound.....

I'm wondering if it is the vanilla offense of the preseason. My impression - without reviewing the film - is that they aren't setting that many screens for him. Maybe that will change when the regular season begins.

Actually a lot of his shots have been coming off screens and stuff. He's just not hitting them.

Maybe Bibby needs better players around him. I think he needs to stop thinking that he's the leader and just play like he knows how to - I think that adds pressure to him and he thinks that he needs to take the team on his shoulders; but you could also argue with time for the team to jell, he will be a little more relaxed and make the shots that he normally makes. Plus, it's only pre-season and this is the time to get on track.

Mike has always been a very streaky shooter and his streaks seem to measured in weeks. I have actually been fairly happy with what I have seen from Mike in the preseason. That is, it looks to me like he is having fun out there compared to last season when everything on his face said he would rather be at home.

Lastly, I will say that a jump shot is not something you lose. It is much more like riding a bike. If you do not believe me, just go to a rec center and find some 55 year-old that has been playing for 40+ years. He may not be able to run and jump, but will probably still be able to shoot the eyes out.

I've edited the title of the thread since it has virtually nothing to do with Spencer Hawes.

:p

I think you're operating at a big disadvantage by not being able to actually see the games.

Mike's whole attitude and demeanor on the court is different. He's energized, he's involved and he's playing better overall than I've seen in a very long time. Some of his shots just aren't falling. It's not like he's hacking up airballs or anything.

There's a lot to be hopeful for in what I've seen with Bibby so far.

Bibby shot may have been off last night, but he looks energized and invested in things to me.

Last night was fatigue and missing some main offensive contributers. Not a big deal. I'm sure Reggie learned some things if anything good came out of this.

Whew....I am glad that I am not the only one that has seen a spark back in Mike's eyes.

*Note: I apologize for contributing to the total derailment of this thread.

That all may be. Thinner, trying harder on defense...similar to last preseason actually. But if it comes with 30% shooting and no assists its not going to help much. I don't necessarily doubt the one side to have major concerns about the other. If he had looked good last season it would be just a footnote. As is, we haven't seen more than an occasional flash of Bibby's offense since Rick left.

Thank you bricklayer. I mean bibby used to be deadly...it just seems he isnt as good as the past years. maybe the trade rumors messed with his melon. I say cut the fro' and get back to the inner laker assassin. I feel like his offensive side looks like last year. maybe I am being to quick to judge...or maybe he is playing better defense and that is hurting his offense.

While the shooting still isn't what it once was, I think the assists are there - just waiting for the guy on the other end of the passes to do his part.

He hasnt had that sweet jumper since 2005...weird...
He hasn't actually had a "sweet" jumper since 2003.

Bibby has gotten more mileage out a season-and-a-half than any player since Tim Thomas; he's only had one "good" season shooting the ball in his career, and his percentage has been steadily declining for the past five years in a row. At some point, you've got to stop calling it a slump and consider the possibility that maybe he's just not that good.

I think much of that change has been the result of 1) him taking ever increasing numbers of 3pt shots every year -- drives down overall %; and 2) him being increasing thrust into the role of a primetime scorer rather than support scorer, thus haivng to create more, take tougher shots etc.

But last year was something different. That was a collapse. And this preseason hasn't looked any better. If this keeps up maybe the best thing he could do for his career is opt out this summer and head down to Houston to rejoin Rick.
