Somebody Tell Me About Vitaly Potepenko

Wait. "Big and clumsy"... temporary overachiever with a big head?

So basically you're saying he's the Ukraine version of Joe Kleine?

;)

No, Joe LITERALLY had a big head. :D

Vitaly just suffers from KT syndrome.

I know. The first year the bobbleheads came out it was like "Whoa. They all look like Kleine."

;)

Actually I am not too disappointed with this deal. I was REALLY impressed with Vitaly's defense on Duncan last year in the PO's. He played him very very tough. Pretty much saved one of the games with his tough post D. But the deal is truly about Monia. This kid could be real good. I am glad we got one of the young athletes from Portland!
Hey you trade a guy you never paly for two guys you probably will never paly and it is still not a bad trade, espcially in Kingsville... you now have one more body to fill in for the inevitable health problames... OK seriously though trading a guy you don't paly for a kid with potential is ALWAYS a good move evne though it usualy amouts to nothing but "a tale told by an idiot full of sound and furry, signifying nothing"

It would of been nice if we got Nick Collison. The guy would be a energy spark off the bench with his rebounding and defense.

The problem is Collison is not a bad player and in fact owns the Kings (playoffs anyone?). Collison is nothing really special either but better than Potato.

I wasn't on the net for a long time, but I was in touch with everything about the Kings.I think Vitaly doesn't have some future in Sacramento cuz' he's pretty old if I am not wrong and he is also in his last year of contract(I think?).
On the other hand,Monia is young player and he could get better,we'll see.
I am pretty much convinced we didn't make our team any better at the center position with trading Brian for Vitaly...I hope I am wrong.

Actually we did because of cap-space and no longer having to pay the luxury tax (Brian's contract). It was about that, and Sergei Monia. Skinner wasn't being used much on the year for some reason, and when he was used it was for 5-10 minutes in the 38 games he played in. A few times over that where he got good minutes.

Potapenko has one year left on his deal at 3 million. He's not a shot-blocker, but is better offensively and a good rebounder, along with being a big body too.

Really was about Monia and getting a bit of a cap room.

Unfortunately I think you are right.

Like I've said though, I think we just wanted to take a look at Monia and figured Vitaly (think he's 31 BTW) could handle the few minutes Skinner gets as well as well as Brian did.

The real disaster would be if Brad got hurt again -- but I'm nearly 100% sure it means we would just go centerless and start our twin blown up SF frontcourt of Reef and KT ratehr than start Potapenko.

That fact has already been proven when Brad got hurt last time. Reef at C.

Hey, if you're not going to make the playoffs anyway, might as well just go score some points right?

the real reason for the trade: the kings missed europeans

i can only hope potapenko will be the next vlade and monia will be the next peja. hope being the key word.

no on the first count. he's old and slow, but that's about as far as the comparison could ever go. and the jury's still out on the second count. monya has a lot of the scary "potential" word...but who knows if it will translate on the court the way it did for peja. although monya's [supposed] defensive prowess should definitely allow for opportunities on the court.
