Somebody Tell Me About Vitaly Potepenko

He sucks. That's about it. Was on the Celtics for a while, a top 15 pick (12 to be exact).

I hope he's in a contract year and I hope Monia is the reason why we pulled this trade. Portland has way too many young guys. Although we already have 2 young guys who play the swing, and with Bonzi back, I can't seem Monia playing in front of Martin, Bonzi, Garcia or Artest.

He doesn't block shots at all and slightly better offensively. As I said, I hope Monia is pretty good. Skinner wasn't great but these guys....I don't know.

Monia has some talent. He's a big physical guy who can hit the three. I saw a few Blazers' games this year and I was pleasantly surprise by him. His offensive game is not bad at all and he gives us another option behind the arc. How much time he'll get here is a better question.

Maybe he's underutlized.

14.7 mpg. 34% from the field. only played in 23 games. 27% from 3 point land. 2.2 rebs. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......maybe you guys are seeing something I'm not. Looks like a Project at the swing, we already have Garcia and Martin filling in that role. Whatever. Skinner, Potato or Monia aren't really going to play much nor do much this year. Maybe Monia will suprise us, but he hasn't shown much yet.

While this deal obviously peaks our interest as Kings' fans, from an on-the court standpoint this deal doesn't do much at all. I'd be very surprise if either Vitaly or Monia got anything more than a handful of minutes each game. This essentially breaks down Skinner's $5 mill plus deal into 2 smaller deals ($3 mill + and $1 mill +). With the addition of another body to the roster perhaps Sampson is on his was to the D League.

How the hell is this supposed to make us better? Isnt Vital Potty's contract up in June 2007? Thats still a year and 1/2 away

Sampson can't go to the DL because he has over 2-seasons of experience. If anything, this only means minutes for the guy. Or not. :)

I like the deal because Skinner wasn't being used with regularity, and when he was it wasn't much. I really like Monia, his potential, size, versatility, and Potapenko is a big and can bang.

Thanks. Forgot about that 2 year rule with the D League. I agree with your takes on Monia and Vitaly, that is if they can get some minutes.

Well, wasn't being used applies to Corliss too, but who would rather have, Corliss or Skinner?

Vitaly is just a shrug. He's big, and he bangs. Modestly talented down low. No length and can't block shots. Just a big body that is willing to get physical in the post.

And the deal runs the same length as Skinner's.

So maybe it was a bit about getting a bigger truer backup center (Skinner is truly a classicly sized PF), but probably about taking a look at Monia as another young long defensive SF type.

Monia was the main pickup of this deal, we need that size and athleticism, I have watched many games of Sergei from when he play for CSKA Moscow and his best attribute is his defence, hes a tenacious defender like Ron, he never stops hustling. I Think this was another steal for us.

I concur.

Monia could really turn out. He may bust - but for what we lost in the deal ... it's perfect!

It's like getting a top 15 draft pick for nothing!
