Small Forwards the Kings

Isaac or Tatum with one pick, Smith, fox, frank n with the other all of a sudden a very young athletic team. Keep the roster light on vets lose heavy next year and get another high pick and hope there's big growth with all that youth before 19 when you lose your pick.

We have young guys at the 2,4, and 5. This draft is best at the 1 and 3 so it li es up nice as long as we keep both picks (both being top 7 or 8 would be huge)
The only thing that I disagree on there is that 4 and 5 still have huge question marks on them.

If the Kings do what you suggest (and I happen to agree that they should) then you would hope that there is a franchise level 4 or 5 in next year's draft that you can pick and pair up with the two picks you hopefully hit a home run on this year.

I have long believed, rightly or wrongly that the best way to build a team is to have perennial all-star/franchise level talent at 3 positions, 1, 3 and 4 or 5. If you go back to the Kings of the golden era, even though Bibby was never an all-star, he was borderline all star PG, Peja was a 3 time all-star SF and Webber was the franchise level perennial all-start talent at 4. The rest of the starting 5 was high calibre role playing glue guys in Christie and Vlade. Then you had more fire power off the bench.

I think Minny is doing it right with KAT (4 or 5), Wiggins (SF) and if Dunn develops as many hoped he would (PG) and then you can add in LaVine to that mix.

My hope for the Kings would be to do it in the same manner. Get the PG and SF sorted in this draft with the hope that they hit a home run with both picks and then next year, get that high level PF/C and let the mix mature and learn how to win.

Skal looks like a starting PF in the making to me. He moves well, gobbles rebounds, and that jumper is money. He might not be a superstar in the making but he's a piece we can build with. Fortunately we have no obligations on our 2018 pick and that draft is looking like it'll be as deep in big men as this year is in PGs and wings so I wouldn't worry about the C position until next year. Get the PG position sorted ASAP in this year's draft if possible with a top 10 pick. If everything breaks right and we end up with two picks we should be able to grab a solid wing player too. Vlade wanted a tank job so at least make it mean something and get these positions re-stocked for the future.

Jonathon Isaac is incredibly talented. His game is made for NBA. Dare I say if we drafted him, he would become the most talented player on the team. He would look great playing next to Skal at the other forward spot. I am not sure who I like better as a prospect Tatum or Isaac. But I am sure I will form that opinion closer to the draft.

His frame looks so frail in my opinion. If both Tatum and Isaac are on the board I would chose Tatum if we already secured a PG.

I'd be concerned about his frame if Isaac didn't have SF skill set. He can face up, crossover, drive and shoot from deep. He needs to get stronger of course but I think only as normal development curve and to play PF or C in a pinch. Primarily I envision him as a SF who can post up smaller guys and take slower guys off the dribble. He has tremendous potential.

Man I hope Vlade gets to draft these guys and they turn out as well as you all are hoping. The Kings need better talented players for sure.

I don't think Rudy comes back.. He seems like his hearts set on a new start even with Cousins gone.. I think we go to the draft for a PG and SF and get some vet help at SF in free agency.

On a side note, I wouldn't mind getting Z-Bo here next year as a vet. He's matured heaps, knows Joergers offense and could be a good gap filler for 2-3 seasons while we wait for Skal to develop and take over.

Thoughts?
If we are rebuilding then why get a veteran stop gap player like Randolph? Why let a vet take away from our youth? Skal can play right now. In a year or two he is going to put alot of pressure on the defense.

In a way, I think you answered your own question. Skal will be ready in a year or two, and if you sign Randolph, lets say to a three yr deal with a team option on year three, you have a legit starter for year or two, which takes the pressure off Skal. At the same time, you don't play Randolph his usual minutes because he's no spring chicken anymore. Skal can slide over and play a minute or two at SF and a minute or two at center. Between the three positions he can get around 3o minutes a game.

In the meantime, you have a few quality players on the team that are used to winning, and who would get the respect of the young players. I'd try and do the same thing at the PG position. If were lucky enough to get one of the top PG's in the draft, I'd go after someone like Jeff Teague and try and sign him to a three year contract. By the time his contract is up, your young PG should be ready to step in and take over.

Unless it's a player who can grow with the team I don't want to sign any vets to anything longer than a 1 year + team option. I'm all on board for players like O. Porter that's would be a nice pick up.

I ran into M. Richardson today what a down to earth young man. Had a few words with him he seems enthusiast about the future of the team. BTW undoubtedly can play the 3 as he grows into his frame he's no K. Martin.

Did you ask him when he hopes to be back on the court? :)

That's all cool. I hope he can play the 3, it will help drafting Monk make some sense if he's the BPA when we pick.
