Sloan A Possibility?

Hall of Famer
First Voison claimed Sloan was not done coaching, wants to get back in the game, is interested with our talent, and prefers small cities.

Now Amick is reporting the Maloofs like Sloan(who wouldn't, but still good to hear), that Sloan might consider getting back into coaching, and that his wife wouldn't mind living in Sac. Have to wonder if the Maloofs have already talked to him.

I hope Smart does well, as he has so far. But we're talking about a top 10 coach of all time. If you get the opportunity, you take it.

Absolutely.

I really hope we've talked to him before, and won't miss the train in the summer cause he will have other options without a doubt... but man - Jerry Sloan is a dream.. Rick would be ideal for me and for what we have and we missed that train already - but Sloan is right up there with him.. we can't let this slip.

This is what the Maloofs did when Adelman was coach. They publicly let it be known that they were trying to sign Phil Jackson while Adelman was under contract. Now they have Smart under contract and they publicly let it be known they like Sloan.

This is a win win.. It will keep a fire lit under Smart, and if Sloan wants to coach thhis team, then we obviously take it.

I would support having Sloan fully, great tough coach that these young players could learn some discipline from. Im sure we could keep Smart as a head assistant too, since we are short one right now i believe?

Bad timing to break this right after hiring Smart. I'd have concerns about Sloan regardless, though. Who's to say his old school hardass approach would work any better with Cousins that Westphal's? And at Sloan's age, how many seasons is he going to be looking to coach? I want a long term coach that becomes a fixture in Sacramento the way Rick Adleman did, not someone who's going to be around for a season or two then retire.

i like sloan but this is a typical magoof move. why didn't they do this **** when westfool was coaching instead of smart?

With all due respect, no to Sloan. Like Rookie said... he can't have many years left. We need to stop chasing after some vaunted savior. Smart looks good. It's mostly about relationships anyway, you build them over time. Give Smart time to build solid relationships with his players. We'll be fine.

I like Sloan, but wtf. Let Smart settle in and get a fair chance. This undermines him with the players off the bat. I realize Smart's playing days were 25 years ago and he didn't make a mark in the NBA, but still he is going to be closer in age to these guys and might have a better bond then a lot of higher profile options.

Yep Smart looks good and if the team really takes to him then im fine with him continuing. Young teams and young coaches are the way forward. Look at OKC and CHI even MEM

If you read the article and pretended you were a Jazz fan, I think you would come off thinking the article was more about Sloan, than it was about the possiblity of Him coaching the Kings. I also suspect that the comments made by the Maloofs were old comments made prior to Westphal even being fired. Point being, I don't think they were trying to undermine Smart in any way. The Kings didn't even give Sloan a call when they fired Westphal, so I think they're willing to give Smart a fair chance to retain the job.
