[Game] SL: Kings v. Hawks (7/13/16)

Our SL team just sucks, but I love what I'm seeing from Skal. I have the feeing we have a steal here...

The shooting on our team is horrifyingly bad. Getting wide open shots that we're missing.

Skal is challenging quite a few shots at the rim. Been very active on the defensive end.

Yeah, I would not mind if I never saw every single non-drafted player on this team ever again. Stockton can cameo somewhere I guess, but everyone else is hot garbage.

64-53 end 3rd

Luka Mitrovic excels with team play.. he doesn't get to excel in an environment where no one else except Stockton and Cousins know how to make a pass.

Very high IQ and doesn't look to score much. Constantly trying to get others involved in the play.

I never read too much into summer league but very dissapointed in wcs. Poor effort and energy for a guy that's planning to start

Yeah he didn't really seem all that interested in SL. In that last play that he got dunked on, he was just trotting along with the Atlanta player and got dunked on when he was too slow to recover after the pass.

yeah, I don't get it. I didn't expect him to light it up offensively, but I fully expected him to lock down the paint defensively and dominant that way. You said it perfectly, just looked completely disinterested and not the same energizer bunny WCS we were used to last season.

Of all our draft picks, Skal looks most ready to contribute right now. Isaiah Cousins didn't impress in our first look at him, Great size but average athleticism and can't shoot.

Papa G looked better this game, much more active and showed touch around the hoop. He looked like he got his legs back after that back-to-back game.

WCS talks the talk but he doesn't walk the walk. If you're going to make statements about how great your work ethic is and how you work harder than everyone, you better show it. Otherwise keep your trap shut.

I think we've overrated him a bit based on some flashes he showed last year. He was solid for a rookie but he was hardly reliable. People are talking like replacing Thompson with WCS in the lineup that Malone had success with a few years ago is an upgrade but I don't agree with that. He has a lot of work to do to get to that point and I think he's going to struggle offensively without Rondo there to throw him lobs.

It will be very difficult for WCS to be worse than JT.

I'm not worried about WCS, why go hard against scrubs? He's going to play a lot this year, he's probably just trying to get his stamina back and staying injury free for the long haul.

When you are a player whose calling cards are likely defense and energy, would be good to bring those things any time you step on the court in a kings uni

Hard not to be disappointed by Willie's SL performance.

The easy excuses are:

  • Of course he's not going to put up big numbers - that's not his job
  • He's a player that really is most valuable in a structured system with better players alongside him
  • He's trying to expand his role so there's an adjustment period
and there's some validity to all of those but I still didn't see a guy that was an elite defender and who was engaged and making a difference with the things that are supposed to be his calling card.

He has a long way to go but Skal has been the best player on the floor for the Kings so far. And for a guy who spent three years in college and has a full NBA season under his belt to look worse than the 28th pick in the draft (a kid who spent one year in college and looked absolutely dreadful for most of that season) is more than a little concerning.

I hope things look quite a bit different when next season actually starts. I used to like Summer League. But for the last few years I've just dreaded it.

I'm thinking the same. Give him a few years and we may have a very good stretch 4. I have my eyes on him. I know people want him to bulk up but he's got a slim frame and there is only so much room to add bulk.

This. He has a Tayshaun Prince type frame. Its going to be hard for him to put on much weight based off that. However, he is holding his own. Very rangey, gangly but smooth in his movements.

Im about halfway thru the game (watching a replay on my amazon firestick, if you dont have one GET IT, root it, download kodi and then google the best streaming sites and I kid you not you can stream ANYTHING. Mma fights, ball games, movies, tv shows. For $45). My observation:
Most people jumped the gun on Papa. He has a ways to go but the talent and athleticism are there.
Malachi is going to be serviceable out the gate. Even if his shot is not there he still plays hardnosed defense, a lot of pride on that end will serve him well.
Why hasnt Dukan found a spot in the league? Dude isnt too much of a liability on defense as he tries on that end, but his shooting is cold blooded! He could spot play for a team at 12-15 mins a game and give them 5-6 pts easy.
Labissiere is going to be one of the better picks from this draft. Dude is smooth. His shot is very nice, he gets it up high and soft on the rim. He teminds me of a young, unpolished Antawn Jamison with more range and a smoother stroke. Maybe a cross between Jamison and Prince. He does a good job on the glass and defensively he doesnt back down. He has all the tools to be very similar to a Dirk Nowitzki type. Time will tell on him but i wouldnt be surprised if he is putting up 20 a game one day and Im being dead serious. The shooting mechanics are earily similar when you compare a young Dirk to him, before Dirk mastered the fadeaway. Which is something to note as Skal showed a very pretty fadeaway in the early going that had me raising brows!
