[Game] SL: Kings v. Hawks (7/13/16)

To add..
Second Cuz looks decent. He can handle the rock and set people up. Shot was off but looked smooth. Handle was fairly tight.
WCS again disappointed...if you expected him to come in and dominate. All I really see is a player who was never allowed to do the things he is now being allowed to do. Honestly, he has been a little lazy with his finishes and rotations which is what is making him look bad but the moves are there on offense. He had a lovely take to the hoop in the early going where he kind of cupped it and tried to lay it up with one hand that no doubt the coaching staff will show him on film and tell him to ****ing slam that crap.

I'm thinking the same. Give him a few years and we may have a very good stretch 4. I have my eyes on him. I know people want him to bulk up but he's got a slim frame and there is only so much room to add bulk.

Didn't this guy have a slime frame too coming out of Marshall?

and eventually turned into this....

I then go and take a look at Skal's frame at Kentucky...

and let's remember...Hassan is 7 feet...Skal is 6'11...it's not as far fetched as it seems for him to put on a good amount of muscle mass if he puts in the work, which I have no doubts he will.

It doesnt work that way. Hassan had a very solid base and Skal doesnt. So Skal cant "skip leg day" as that is probably the most important part of his muscle development. He needs stronger thighs, stronger calves, and stronger shoulders. PLUS....Whiteside is a center thru and thru. Skal is a sf with pf height.

Hassan was 227 coming out of college, while Skal is currently at 216 and he is one inch shorter than Hassan. That's a 11 pound difference between the two coming out of college, who's to say Skal doesn't grow another inch or two? Even if he doesn't...I highly doubt he will go out there and skip leg day when he has top notch professional trainers by his side. It's all about having a complete body work out.

Skal has an Ectomorph body, so yes, he will not look like a bodybuilder a-la Arnold but you can still put more muscles even for this type, just have to work harder and it takes longer. I have the same body type and I know how frustrating it is sometimes - you work very hard, getting so much stronger but still look like a skinny dude (ripped but skinny). The bottom line: Skal needs to get stronger. We might not notice it visibly that much but it will help him playing like a PF. He can absolutely do it. Now he will have more money for a better diet, better trainers, better supplementation and he does not need to worry about other stuff like classes. It is up to him.

Spot on. I'm in that same boat as well. It took me years to get to where I'm at and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface yet. His best bet is to do a lot of compound exercises that will help put on some mass and then from there, decide if it's an ideal approach moving forward or if he is better off strictly training for hypertrophy and being very lean and ripped, which will be great for his conditioning. It practically boils down to what position does the team want him to play moving forward, a SF or a PF.

Skal has an entirely different body frame than Whiteside.
I guess you could make the point that Porzingis bulked up, but Porzingis continued to grow even into his rookie year. Porzingis has constantly steadily bulked up throughout the years.

3 years ago, Porzingis was 6'9 200lbs?
Today, he's 7'3 240lbs...

3 years ago, Skal was 6'11 198lbs
Today, he's 6'11 216lbs.

Skal weighs the same as he did in HS... He came into Kentucky at 216. Came out of Kentucky at 216... it's going to take a while if Skal ever develops a good solid frame.

Skal should aim to be a Raef Lafraentz type. Some will look down upon that, but Raef was very good before injuries hit him. He was athletic, quick, could shoot threes and block shots. That's Skal in a way.

As someone stated before me, Skal is an ectomorph. Therefore he will take a little longer to fill out due to the fact that he is a "hard gainer" so to speak. Nothing that professional level athletic trainers can't deal with here, he doesn't have to be some massive 240+ pound dude, if he gains another 15 pounds or so and the majority of it is muscle, I think he did all right for himself.

Despite not being involved in the offense at all I was still impressed by Richardsons defense, Papa looked decent except for a few TO"s and Skal looked great again.

Ectomorphs sound like a myth for me. Nothing a whole food diet can't fix.

Whole Pizzas, whole cakes and whole Ice Cream buckets....:D

I've been impressed with Skal thus far but it's way too early to know what he is going to be. His skill set and size remind me a little bit of Lamar Odom. He's really long and has impressive handles for a big guy and can shoot it a little bit. I don't think he has the unlimited ceiling that Odom had but I think he has the skills and ability to impact the game in a similar way. He's got a ways to go as all these young guys do but I'm pretty encouraged thus far. I have a soft spot for Haitians as I lived there for a couple years and made some really close friends so I might be a little biased.

I think Malachi Richardson has the ability to contribute this year if two things go right for him. 1. He has to be able to defend reasonable well. Coming from Syracuse there are always questions about whether or not a guy can defend 1-on-1 in the NBA so he'll have to prove that. I'm confident that Coach Joeger will be pretty rigid in the idea that to get playing time you have to defend or at least put in the effort on that end. Malachi has great length on the wing and rebounds well for a guard so I think he can have a positive impact on D with effort and focus. 2. Can he make good decisions within the offense? He's a pretty skilled offensive player but he can force/rush it sometimes resulting in bad shots and turnovers. He needs to start by fitting into the offense and focusing on moving the ball quickly when the open shot isn't there.

With the injuries and the lack of minutes I don't know what to make of the other guys yet. I imagine Big George is going to need some time to develop but second Cousins will need to show something fairly quickly in order to stay around.
