Well, it's been said already that he has to be a focus of the offense to succeed. If you are willing to gamble on him because of those two games that you just mentioned, then suit yourself.
3 teams went to that mountain and all 3 passed on the "gold," so again - suit yourself.
Kenny couldn't dream of playing in the same way Ike did those last couple of games. Kenny will never/has never had an offensive skill set like Diogu showed glimpses of. Kenny can scrap his way into a big game, but dropping 20 foot jumpers? Backing down a big like Nene and scoring on him repeatedly? I don't think so.
This isn't Justin Williams here. This is a guy that was drafted 9th overall in a very solid draft, and I for one think we should test the theory that some bigs take a few years to develop. It would be nice to be the recipient of some other teams youth development for a change as opposed to the one giving it away.

Timing is everything.
It seems that everybody has forgotten how much of a beast he was when he was given the minutes late in the season. This guy was scoring 30+ and cleaning the boards, against some of the better teams (I.e Denver). So we know he can score, but I think he brings toughnes, size, and rebounding, which are things we desperately need. I say we re-sign him and find a way to give him minutes. What do you guys think?
That's so yesterday, doncha know? You should check out this thread, as there's a pretty significant discussion about Diogu already taking place.
Yeah, I know...and I'm taking the next action ONLY because I was specifically requested to do so.
...sigh...
You got it. Another poll on the way.
I hate TDOS.

I feel like the title of this topic should be changed. There's a couple comments about Greene and Casspi followed by 4 pages of the great Ike Diogu debate. I don't really have anything to add there. We've all heard the same arguments before. I liked Ike in college, I liked him at Golden State, he never played in Indiana or Portland, and in the two games he actually got to play for us I liked him a lot. Every single game after the Portland trade I wished he would get some playing time and when he finally did he delivered big time. But what does that even mean? It's still just two games and he did a lot of nothing for most of the last 3 years. Who knows who exactly is to blame for that. But I'll be really sad if he goes somewhere else and turns into the player I always thought he was.
Regarding the original topic, if the past 3 years are any indication then Casspi and Greene (if they both make the roster) will be getting a lot of time at the 4. We don't have a backup center right now anyway, so probably Thompson has to play some minutes there. If this new commitment to toughness and defense is for real, then hopefully they will only play spot minutes at the 4 position because both of them are best suited to play SF. You don't throw skinny rookies or second year jumpshooters who've proved nothing into your frontcourt and expect to stop anybody. We don't know what the final roster will look like, so it's hard to say one way or the other at this point.
I wouldn't mind signing him for 1yr, for 1-2M. Thats it. We can give him a chance, but he hasn't shown enough to warrent a multi-yr contract. There are a lot of overpaid big men in the league, and I don't want to add one to our roster, especially with the contracts of noc, beno, and cisco. We also need another big, even if we do resign Ike. I don't want him to be the 1st big off the bench. If we sign another big, I have no problem giving Ike a 1yr contract as the 4th big on the depth chart of our big men.

I think we sign Diogu too. We have some cap room but I haven't heard of any FA's that are beating down GP's door to sign here. Can't really blame them considering where the team stands now. Everybody wants to play for a winner and it will be a while before we get on the upside of .500 unless GP can find a difference maker somewhere. That would be a shame. The day Brockman puts up 30 and 11 in a game is the day hell freezes over. I do however really like Brockman for what he can do.
I think Diogu gets re-signed myself and he and Brockman pound Jason and Spencer in practice every day.

It could be that he's learned from his past mistakes. He may be ready to emerge as a solid player in the league and only needs the chance. I would be willing to give him a one year deal at a reasonable price, with a team option on the second year. Beyond that, I don't think the Kings are in any position to take any long term chances on someone thats been as inconsistant as he has. There has to be a reason a player plays 32 minutes one night and 5 the next. Over, and over again. Thats been his pattern.
I really hope we´ll bring back Ike Diogu. He´s a better 4 and his last two games this season were really promising.
