I agree with tradepeja. What the hell would an up tempo team do with a center who doesn't even move as well as Greg Ostertag?? On top of that Shaq is signed through 2009/2010 for 20mil/yr!!!! Who the heck would want that? Oh yah, he also misses about half the season every year because he is an out of shape s.o.b... Any team that trades for Shaq is asking to suck.
I understand Miami wanting to trade Shaq. They absolutely should. What I don't understand is Phoenix wanting to pick him up. Yes Amare is probably more of a PF anyway, yes Phoenix wants to win now, yes Marion has already asked to be traded, yes Shaq has won championships before, but isn't this the same team selling their draft picks every year for pennies on the dollar because they don't want to take on any more salary? And they're going to add the most overpaid player in the league? A player who can't hit a free throw not to mention an open three? I guess they've been looking for a frontline center to compete against Duncan, and the new Bynum/Gasol tandem looks scary on paper, but I wouldn't want to be the one to break up that magic chemistry in Phoenix. Maybe it gives them what they've been missing, but it looks more likely to me that taking away the one thing that makes them unique (speed and offensive firepower) causes the whole careful balance to fall apart. Be careful what you wish for.
...Or maybe Steve Kerr is brilliant and Shaq puts another borderline contender over the top. I'm having trouble seeing it, but I suppose it's possible.

I agree, they dont need shaq.
But they do need:
- Size
- Rebounding
- Defense
Shaq gives them:
- Size
* Rebounding
* Defense
Shaq gives the size for sure but he doesnt make sense with the style, scheme and way they play. They need Defense and rebounding, but if anybody has seen shaq play the pick n roll, (in his hay day) he wasnt very good. Phil also got on him constantly to rebound.
Overall they dont really need his offense, its on the other side of the ball thet they would need shaq to contribute. I see some upside but I see some downside aswell. I would have to see shaq and the suns in action to make some definitive conclusions.

You're missing my point. I'll try and clarify: The Suns don't NEED Shaquille O'Neal on the court in the way some teams make bad or questionable trades to fill desperate needs. What they might need is an end to the rumored locker room chemistry problems. Maybe they made the best deal possible that doesn't make any other team in the West stronger. Sending Marion to the Heat doesn't really hurt Phoenix as far as competitors are concerned.

From a SUNS fan's perspective
Bingo. High risk,high reward.
We're hoping it's SHAQ + Miami 1st for MARION/Marcus BANKS + Atlanta 1st(SUNS rights)
If this is just Shaq for Marion/Banks, i'm dissappointed. The SUNS fans are split right down the middle i'd say...understandably.
I was hoping for Artest.
If this goes down, we'll slip in the standings i think but if we're healthy going into the post-season i believe this helps us tremendously on the defensive end.
Otherwise, we weren't going to get any stops against the the likes of the Lakers,Spurs, Hornets, Jazz etc...
