Shams: Lakers discuss Kuzma for Buddy deal

Well, the Spurs can't trade a free agent to be, unless the rules have changed since the botched Bogi-Milwaukee deal!

Bogdan wanted the $$$ so him blowing up the deal wasn't a shocker. I'm sure DeRozan wants to go to the Lakers no matter what so there wouldn't be any issues.

This all might just be the Lakers using the Kings to get San Antonio on board for a deal they couldn't make on their own. Interesting.

It might hurt for a season or two but by the time the Kings are hopefully relevant again, Lebron's probably going to have retired and AD's knees might have fallen off.

And LeBron might be like Jordan and still be good well into his 40's, sign a smaller deal so they can then find another 3rd star around Buddy and AD. Nah, not for GD Kyle Kuzma. And as much as I wanted the Kings to draft Harrell, he can be had in FA if the price is right.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me about the #22 pick. YAWN

While turning any draft pick into gold is always possible (e.g. Isaiah Thomas at #60), getting #22 is nowhere near valuable enough to prioritize having in any potential deal.

It’s a complete unknown. And not even a lottery pick. In a draft that is widely seen as 5 players deep then everyone else.

What the LAL are reportedly offering would be equate the KINGS trading a $50 bill for a $20 and $5 worth of lottery scratchers hoping you get lucky.

No thanks.

And I can’t keep stressing this enough — you shouldn’t ever trade with a hated rival unless it’s heavily tilted in your favor. The reported offer doesn’t remotely come close to that.

If the LAL really want Buddy Hield, McNair needs to make them drastically overpay. However, beyond their top 2 players, they lack anything worthwhile to overpay with. No premier draft capital, no worthwhile young talent.

Montrezl and KCP are ok, but neither are centerpieces to a trade. Neither is #22.
All 3 might be ok in a potential deal if the team were Charlotte or New Orleans. But when it’s LAL involved — that ain’t nowhere near enough to land arguably the best volume perimeter shooter not named the Splash Brothers.

I'm almost on the complete opposite side of the spectrum in my thoughts on this trade. I would be thrilled to get Kuzma, Harrell, and the 22 for Buddy. Yes, Buddy has an elite skill, but he also has an awful contract that has killed his trade value and made him very difficult to move. Plus, Buddy is one of those players that I think dealing him would be addition by subtraction: he's awful defensively, is too one-dimensional offensively, has a bad attitude, isn't disciplined, and takes minutes from Haliburton.

So some of the value is just in dealing him and his contract. How about the value returning? While it isn't the greatest package, it's enough of a floor (two rotational pieces in Kuzma and Harrell) and has the upside (#22) to work out great for us:

Kuzma: Fills a position of need and improves the teams length, athleticism, and defense. I'm also hoping he would do better in a faster paced offense like the Kings play.

Harrell: Holmes insurance and/or the energy big off the bench if Holmes stays. Both he and Kuzma make Bagley more tradeable as well because they can fill that 4/5 role. He'd also be an expiring that can be used as a trade chip later in the season if he isn't in the rotation or what not.

#22: This would be my favorite part of the deal. What better draft than this one, in which the talent between picks ~7-25ish are near identical, to grab a later 1st round pick? I'd love to grab a Ziaire Williams with that pick and give him a couple years to develop since we've added depth via Harrell, Kuzma, and the #9 anyway.

I love this deal if it includes all three of those pieces, and I love accumulating team friendly contracts that could be moved if it ends being in the best interest of the team.

LeBron and AD need shooters around them. DeRozan is not a shooter. He would clog the lanes even more for Bron and AD.

So if Harrell says he is not opting in today and we switch to Kuzma and KCP thats 26m vs Buddy 22.4
Do we send Justin James 1.7m and Ramsey 1.5m to balance the salaries?

Bron and AD switch up spots I think. They become the shooters. DeRozan would give them another player they could go to in the half court rather than relying on Bron. I think it's an interesting fit.

I hate to see Harrell as the deal breaker but his ticket would be gone at the end of this season ride. If my reading is right KCP would be on the roster until 2023. I don't mind locking up some assets but in this case the future salary flexibility will be vital to retain Bagley if he pans out and most importantly Haliburton.

Eric Pincus @EricPincus
Buddy Hield's contract is a bit complex. He signed an extension with significant incentives, but with the cap not climbing as expected, his incentives needed to be reduced to fit within the max (as noted, significant incentives)

Spoiler Alert!

Bagley WILL NOT pan out.

Probably can't? Since the Lakers "can't" negotiate their pick until he's selected and they just magically take the guys the Kings wanted at 22
Huh? You can't tamper a pick. They can discuss trading the pick all they want. They just can't make the trade till after they make the pick.

Just handed the lakers an elite shooter for players that couldn’t get off there bench. Imagine if vlade did this smh
