SF Woes: What to do?

This is a reactionary piece after only two games, but it appears the Salmons/Outlaw combination at SF is not a winner... Sure, Salmons can shoot and score, but he appears to have trouble defending other SFs... So what to do?

1. Increase the offer to AK47 (he would be a perfect fit at SF, IMHO).
2. Trade for someone, but who? And who will be traded away in the process? I will post some ideas...

Rashard Lewis? Really? Hedo? Really? No thanks!

I liked both players a couple of years ago, but they both have been horrible the last couple of seasons.

Nothing will change as long as Paul Westphal is coach. Remember he wanted us to trade for Salmons. We could have just picked Jimmer at #7.

Honestly, I would just start Donte and see what happens. It's a make or break year for him so why not give him a shot?
With Cousins, Evans and Thorton you need a SF that plays defense, rebounds and hits corner 3s. Salmons will never be that guy.

Not sure how wise it is to conclude that having trouble defending Gerald Wallace one night = trouble defending SFs. Isn't Wallace known for being one of the quickest players in the league?

I agree on Lewis, but I watched Hedo play the other night, and he looked pretty good to me. He still has some ball left in him. I'd easily do Greene for him, but not sure about Thompson. Trading Thompson would leave us thin at the center dept, and we already lack height on this team. I really doubt that Orlando wants to trade Hedo. Hedo is a big favorite of Howard's, who had a tizzy fit when they traded Hedo away the first time.

Yep! I love Wallace, but then I've loved him going all the way back to his Kings days. I wish Petrie would have made an effort to bring him back when he became available. Wallace can guard three positions if needed. And he's a nightmare to guard at the other end. He was just a great pickup for Portland.

For real. I'd rather have Salmons than Lewis even if Lewis didn't make three times as much money. The only way I'd take that contract is if they threw in John Wall!

A loss in the 2nd game of the season during a b2b schedule doesn't worry me, btw.

BTT, SF is the position which the Kings has the most available personel. It's all up to Westphal to figure his head out. IMO, the last 2 games showed that Salmons is much better defending SGs than big SFs. But what's clearer is that this team is simply lost on defense and would need more time to understand the system. This a growing pain for the youngest starting 5 and third youngest team in the NBA. What's killing this team in last 2 games were the backdoor cuts and pick and rolls. In those plays you just can't rely on man to man defense but team defense.

Give them time.

Its funny how everybody hates salmons after two games into the season after two weeks training camp. I dont think we should judge salmons on his previous stay here. Different time and circumstances. It is going to be sloppy all across the league until teams get some chemistry. All i am saying is that it will take time to figure out what we have. Two games shouldnt be the barometer.

Iggy would be nice but how do you get him without giving up a core player? Really though, I'd rather have Granger than Iggy.

as has been mentioned, we no logner have any use of Granger, or any major shot attempt player. We are accounted for and over accounted for on that front.

When he's hitting shots he is great, when he isn't he is poison. I'd rather have someone else.

Or we could wait until games three and four, maybe eve after five. Some have suggested ten or fifteen. I'm game.

How about trading for one? that would be a great way to get one. I'm sure there are some good ones out there that are available for the right offer.

I don't want to see any more trades unless they're of the no-brainer variety. I'd kind of like to leave this group together for a season or two and see what they do.

I mentioned Landry Fields in another thread.

He's struggling a tad right now and is part of the guard/Forward logjam in NY. He is starting for them though. He's 6'7, 215. Has a bigger frame than Salmons. He can do a little bit of everything and can play without the ball in his hands. He has good "basketball IQ" and is a smart kid, but still a kid and needs to learn things.

Landry Fields would be nice but the Knicks would probably want one of the young PGs, either Jimmer or Thomas for him. They have no use for Salmons that I can see.

More Donte. Now we have plenty of scorers to cover for his lack of offense.

That's how I feel. I mean we got a guy with size and quickness and a knack for defense that don't demand the ball. Staring lineup with three scorers and two top defenders would be ideal let salmons come off bench for sg and sf with jimmer getting pg and sg min but please please no more Thomas and jimmer

I agree, but he is still 6'6" playing SF.

HAS Salmons Passed the ball

I can't remember Salmons even passing the ball. He might of had to if he was forced once or twice, but I don't remember him willingly passing it yet. Hope that changes since westy is do freakin' enamored w/the fish.

This thread was originally my idea, that SF is still a gaping black hole of empty void.

Salmons could not stop metta whirlpeas, and took too many steps against kobe
Salmons could not DO ANYTHING again g. wallace
Salmons could not do anything that would impress me again luol deng, only pass the ball

I completely disagree that we should be playing Donte, what has he proved? He does look better this season, but he still jacks the ball up beyond the arc 99.625% of the time. If we are going to give anyone a chance it should be Honeycutt, he as impressed me with his athletic ability, willingess to go BEYOND (Donte's) three point line, his defense.

Donte should only be out there if JT is out there, those two feed off each other very well. JT gets Donte to actualy pass "his line."

How much money is going for sfs (let me see)?

Salmons 8.5 (at least 3 years of salmons) we should call him K8 because K9 was better
Garcia 5.8 (at least 2 years)
Outlaw 3 (at leat 4 years)
Donte 1.7 (contract year)
Honeycutt <1 (1 year guaranteed, then two team options)

19.8 MILLION DOLLARS to these scrubs......that couldn't stop anybody in the last two games!!!!!!!!! This is obviously incredibly poor money management. How much is wallace making why can't we pay for A (single) good sf instead of five crappy one's?

It appears we committed to Salmons and didn't even finish our committment to Garcia, if we committ to another SF.......? Trade makes sense but who would swap SFs?
