Sergio Rodriguez

If we want to rebuild I think Sergio Rodriguez would be very interesting. He is J-Will with brain and work ethic, superb ballhanding and vision of the court and room to improve their shoot. Portland has been recently searching a veteran PG, and I don't think have two propects to develop like Jack and Rodriguez is the best for any team. Maybe it's time to make a risky move and trade Bibby for a young like Sergio. My proposal is Bibby for Rodriguez+Magloire+some filler (Udoka or another), and if we can get a future pick the trade would be really good.

I like Sergio, but we had a chance to draft him and didn't do so, so not sure whetehr we like him or not. May have assumed he wasn't a good fit for the roster. (as an aside, I was even more surprised to se the Suns pass on him -- seemed a perfectr fit as a Nash understudy).

Probably we didn't draft him because he is a very young european player, and a lot of european prospects have failed in the last years in the NBA. Probably another reason is simply the GM or the directives didn't know about the guy, although he was starter the last two years in a decent team of probably the 2nd best basketball league of the world and member of the World Champions National Team.

And about the new direction of the team, yeah, it's true, he isn't a defensive force. But I prefer see his spectacular plays than see the actual team and fall sleep.

Word is, Petrie passed because Sergio's defense is just horrible. I heard the same thing from other sources.

Don't know about you, but after Bibby, I'd prefer a PG who can actually defend his position.

what good is defense if we cant score points and everyone but our pg needs to be set up to get their shots? i wanted us to draft sergio so bad.... we gained nothing by drafting douby....

Dude, patience. Douby already has 21 in a game. I know Sergio had a great game against Denver, but it's way too early to jump to conclusions.

i know but if this team is rebuilding sergio would be a better piece of the puzzle than douby... douby is a good shooter but sergio can ball... i was so mad when we passed him up.....

The way the Kings are now it seems that a 9-10 assist/game PG would do well.

Ron Ron tries to make shots that aren't there but bulls his way to some.

Kevin needs a distributor to become a really quick Peja type big time scorer.

Brad needs to get the ball on his way to the bucket, not try to dribble there.

Others need help getting the ball to make baskets rather than trying to create their shots.

Kings do not have many (any) real shot creators other than Ron Ron.

Sergio could fit well.

I like Sergio. If we get him, and we move a few things around for an extra draft pick (So we can get Brandan Wright and Cory Brewer), sign a free agent here or there, and we've got a younger version of the team we had in 01.

PG: Sergio (J-Will), Douby (B-Jax)
SG: Martin (Peja), Cisco (Barry)
SF: Cory Brewer (Doug), Cisco (Barry)
PF: Brandan Wright (Webb), Justin Williams (Keon)
C: Darko Milicic (Vlade), Justin Williams (Keon)

Of course this depends on Wright and Milicic playing like Webb and Vlade, but they have shown potential that they can

so we are looking for some 1st or 2nd round exits? ;)

I like Sergio a lot. His defense is lacking, but so is Bibby's. I think athletically, he could learn. The Spanish team was GOOD and Sergio was a big part of it. We just saw Calderon play and play well. The thing is, if the identity of the team is to run, Sergio fits that better than Bibby. It's not because he plays like JWIll or whatever, it's because he is a passer/playmaker that doesn't need to shoot. I like Udoka on that Blazers team as well.

i really like rodriguez also, he is a young talented pg who can score and distribute the basketball. he has great court awareness and can hit the jumpshot/three pointer.

Sergio is more talented in every offensive aspect, and Rondo is superior in every defensive aspect. For me, Sergio>>>Rondo, offense is much more important than defense in a PG. There are a lot of (back up) PGs good in defense, but find a talented PG isn't easy at all. And in the hypothetical trade with Portland we'd have to take the expiring of Magloire, and with Boston we'd have to take Ratliff (next year 12 mill).

we gained nothing by drafting douby....

Agreed. With the exception being that I do think that he will part of some trade this summer...if not him, then Francisco. Either way, I wouldn't get too comfy seeing either one in a Kings uniform, both are young, athletic, and good trade fodder.
