Scratch Biedrins off our list of Bigs to get

In the SF Chronicle today, "John Shea checking in from today's practice..." indicates that Nellie really laid the wood to Biedrins both about his play and his horrid FT shooting. Too bad, I liked the guy for Kings....

I like Biedrins and I'm not sure how much value I put on Nellie's opinion. Its typical of Nellie to throw one of his players under the bus. He does this too many times in order to take the spotlight off of himself. How much good can come out of publicly embarrassing one of your players. Not a good way to build respect.

Was not lost on me.

As for Nellie's opinion, I wish he would unload Biedrins to us, and Randolph for that matter too, seeing as he hasn't given Randolph the minutes even though he was clearly producing.

OR add him to the list of guys who may be possible to acquire.

This.

I liked chasing Biedrins and Randolph at the deadline. I still do since Nellie has no use for them. Hey, maybe in PARTICULAR since Nellie has no use for them since the old windbag has moved squarely and completely into loser territory in his dotage. If Nellie doesn't like somebody, I'm interested-- might be a real basketball player.

Bingo! Quite frankly, screw Nellie. Has there ever been a post player that he didn't develop some kind of beef with? Couldn't coach Webber, Ewing, Randolph, or Biedrins. The only big guy he seemed to like was Nowitzki, who's only one the most unique 7 footer in history.

I've seen too much of Biedrins play, and most of it is to disappear completely. I live in Warriors country. It's not just Nelly that doesn't like him.

Yeah, personally I don't get the fascination with Biedrins. He's average 5.7pts 7.5rbs and 1.6asts in 23.9 min per game this year. He's 6' 11" and 240lbs. Soooo..what am I missing here? Look everyone...It's Hilton Armstrong with 5 more lbs and some playing time!

Have you watched Biedrens play? You may be the first to describe him as a post player. Biedrens is a garbage guy who knows his role. He blocks shots, rebounds the ball, gets putbacks, finishes around the rim. He's pretty athletic, but his skillset is low, and lowest in the post.

He is just coming back from injury. The previous three seasons he aggregated a double-double, 60% shooting and 1.5 blk in less than 30 minutes. That's not just a dime-a-dozen guy getting minutes.

we're 50 + games into the season. Was he injured before the season or during? If before, he has no excuse to not be back by now, if it was during and really is JUSt coming back his numbers shouldn't be THAT affected yet.

His career numbers are 8.1 pts 8.1 rbs. 1.0 asts and 1.3blks a game. This average blks this year is at 1.4

Not bad numbers if he's your first guy off the bench. I don't think anyone is saying that we should build the team around him. I'm not that high on him, but if our bench was a hustle man away from a deep playoff run, I'd have no problem with having Biedrins in our rotation.

This is the kind of guy that the Hornets needed a couple years ago. Instead, they had Melvin Ely and the aforementioned Hilton Armstrong.

I've seen him. I was just using "post player" as a synonym for normal sized PF or C. "Big" probly would have been more effective. Nelson has never successfully worked with a big, other than Nowitzki who plays like a 7 foot guard.

Hurt from 11/8-12/28 with a lower abdominal injury.

Those 8ppg 8 rpg and 1.3 bpg are in 24 mpg. If it were 33 mpg, it would look like 11 11 and 1.7. Not an all-star, but pretty good....and he's still just 23 btw.

The whole Warrior team has been up and down this season. Its a guard oriented team and Biedrins is lucky to even touch the ball. He's only 24 years old and up until this year he had improved his numbers every year. Last season he averaged 11.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 11.9 points per game. For Nellie's entire career as a coach he's always lusted after a big man, but everytime he's gotten one he's never got along with them.

I'm not a big fan of Nellie's. Nellie is all about Nellie, and he will use everything and everyone to futher himself. Just think about how many players he raved about one month and they can't even get on the floor the next month.

He's having a down year but has been strong for most of his career in the areas we need help in the most. He's not getting along with his coach, but he's still very young--and besides, we've done well in the past with players who have not seen eye to eye with Nellie. Time to buy low.

Biedrins for Hawes? Nellie would love Spence. Landry and Biedrins starting as the offense/defense combo, with JT as the 3rd big man who does a little bit of everything... it could almost work.

I've attended several Warrior games and I got to see Biedrins up close. What Nellie said is spot on, Biedrins have been very passive this season. Why, I dunno know; but it's not because of the system and it's not because of Nellie. This is the same system that Biedrins played before, this is the same coach, and he's surrounded by basically the same type of players (shooters).

Whatever happened to him this season is entirely on him. Maybe it's because of the injury, I don't know. But save for a few good games here and there, he sucked. And he sucked in way that is very obvious even to newbies. One of my female friends at the game, who rarely if ever watch basketball, pointed to Biedrins and asked me, "How much does he make?" "Dunno. Millions? Why?" "Because he isn't doing anything! I can do HIS job!", she said.

Now, if anyone is expecting the W to just give Biedrins away, you're mistaken. I've said it before but the W is looking for a premium in return for him. Biedrins maybe sucking today but the W is appraising him from two years ago.

And lastly, watching him shoot FT is just painful. He shoots like he's trying to miss. I'm surprised he managed to hit 13% of his FT this season.

Hawes... Biedrins.

Biedrins... Hawes.

Not seeing a lot of difference other than Hawes is younger.

Well, other than the fact that Biedrins gets rebounds... and isn't a TOOL...

I'd take Biedrins over Hawes in a heartbeat. In fact, I think every GM in the league would make that trade fast before the stupid gas leaked out of Oracle Arena.

I'm not saying Biedrins is an allstar. But he is light years above what we have now in the post now. He is effective and can rebound. He plays some defense and can score. For most teams that is a good bench big that can give you 15 min a game. For us, that would be our starting center. Hawes may get better someday, but he has a long way to go to be as good as Biedrins. A long long way...

Mike Lamb made a good point that contradicts exactly what you're saying: Mike Singletary and Vernon Davis (and no, I don't it's suited just to football players). Singletary blasted Davis in public like nobody's business. By all accounts, including Davis himself, that turned Davis around. Obviously you can't make a consistent practice of it. By it's nature, it has to be done on rare occassions, but there are times when blasting someone in public is called for, and is very effective. One thing nobody can argue with - if you can't get a guy's attention by blasting him in public, you never will.
