Sandrin and Flores released; current roster (merged)

I wish them both well. I strongly suspect Flores will end up somewhere.

Same here. Flores definitely showed he can play...

Didn't expect it this early, but knew these two would ultimately be cut. I really like what Price has shown in his actual playing time (obviously excluding the strolls he had before ;) ). Intrigued to see more of him!

I agree, but Price has good d to back up mike and jason. exept for Mike our point guards had pretty good D. Hope we take that in the regular season.

Current team roster (10/25/05)

With the cuts today, we now have:

Abdur-Rahim
Bibby
Garcia
Hart
Martin
Miller
Price
Sampson
Schenscher
Skinner
Peja
Thomas
Wells
Williamson

And that makes 13. Think we're done? I don't see any more moves unless something very unusual comes up - I think Petrie/RA are probably happy with the versatility and depth.

EDIT: Added Skinner - VF21

You forgot Skinner -- we're still at 14.

Sampson, Price and Luke would be the bubble babies. But have to beleive that Sampson has shown enough, both in preseason and the last few years, to make it. And Price is PG #3. So that kind of leaves Luke in an odd spot. Wonder if the coaching staff is just taking a long look at him to decide whether they want to try to talk the Maloofs into paying him + sending him down to the NBDL?

Played in Game 3 I think. Didn't show much of anything, but it was only about 6 minutes.

Agreed.

I'd say we're done with moves/additions...

Im wondering what the Kings plan on doing with Schescher.

He's only played a few minutes, yet they're keeping him around...Do you guys think he'll be Developmental League material?

As for Sandrin and Flores...I expected Sandrin to get the axe. To many forewards for him to have any use at all. But I expected the Price/Flores battle to continue.

Maybe they'll decide to keep 14 w/ Schenscher sent to the DL.

I also expected Flores to be around - until the end. But didn't think he'd make the team with Price's showings vs. Blazers and vs. Suns.

What little I've seen of both of them in the preseason, I actually liked Flores a bit better than Price. Obviously the team has seen quite a bit more in practice.

If the Kings send anyone to the D-League, Luke will likely be the guy.

It seems like the roster is shaking out just about how most of us envisioned it:

C Miller, Skinner, Sampson
PF Abdur-Rahim, Thomas
SF Stojakovic, Garcia, Williamson
SG Wells, Martin
PG Bibby, Hart, Price

There's your thirteen.

I have been specualting that Luke will end up in the DL. He is the logical choice. although Flores obviously has better chops the Kings do not need a 4th PG. You can't teach size and Luke has it and from what I have heard he practices hard. He will learn more PLAYING in the DL than he will sitting on the bench for the season, then bring him back to camp next year and see what he has.

I too think Flores will likely geet a shot on another team looking for young tough PG, I really liked what I saw out of him but unfortunatly when Bibby, hart and Price are in the que ahead of you it's a long haul to a contract, much less PT.

Ooops - my bad (sorry Brian).

I'd say Luke or Sampson goes - if we stay at 13. I'd like to see all of them kept myself.

Sampson I highly doubt goes unless Luke goes off in the next two games...

I expect Sampson to get more PT than 6-7 minutes at least once in the next two games.

I thought there can only be 12 that can be played? While the other 3 available spots are for the DL. Sampson being the 12th man (he can't go to the DL), and then Price goes down Albur. for however long/times.

Minimum # to keep is 13, but they can keep as many as 15...correct? I think they may want a couple of extra bigs...both Sampson and Luke. Brad and Brian are known for some injuries, so it might be good to keep a couple of back-up centers. Or, they may keep Sampson, and send Luke to the NBDL for safekeeping. If Luke hits the weights, I can see use for him in the future.

I think everyone else is set.

Good luck to Flores and Sandrin ....

I'll go out on a limb. Schenscher and Sampson will both see good minutes the next 2-games. Who is the hungrier of the 2 and who wants this job more then the other ???

My money is on Schenscher .... younger, faster, fresh, coachable, tall and long. I'm not saying Sampson isn't any of those, but Petrie obviously likes this guy to keep him around.

G. Rosters

Each team is required to carry 12 players on its active list and one player on its inactive list (which will replace the injured list). Teams may have a maximum of three players on their inactive list (subject to hardship rules, which will apply in the event that a team with three injured players on its inactive list has a fourth player that suffers an injury). Players sent to the NBA Development League (see below) will continue to count on a team’s inactive list.
The league has agreed to guarantee that, on a league-wide basis, teams will maintain an average roster size of 14 players over the course of the season.

Since the thread about Flores and Sandrin AND the thread about the current remaining roster were running parallel, I merged them...

Kings will keep 14

i think Luke is kept and sent to NBDL, making the roster 14... he really hasn't played, yet he is still on the roster... i think the kings decided a while back to send Luke to the NBDL to see if he develops... since they knew he was NBDL bound, they played the other bubble guys to see if they were worth keeping... afterall, 7'2" bigs with passing skills and a hook shot don't grow on trees...

My money is on Sampson. He has proven himself to some degree with numbers and play in limited minutes, and has experience in the NBA (38 games over 3 seasons, but still), good body, athletic.

Luke is only younger to Sampson by 1 year. 21 (Luke turns 21 on 12/31) and 22.

I tend to agree there. Luke I'd figure would of been gone by now like the rest.
