Salmons why??

Seriously, every game I watch I see salmons get the ball and he ****s it up. He will get double teamed or triple teamed and he will get the ball stolen or he will get the ball blocked while in the air. Why oh why doesnt he ever pass the ball? its like he has to take a shot because one of the other players of the opposing team calls him a *****, which he is, and he drives into 3 people and gets a turn over or a block.
Sorry for this rant, I am just venting my frustration of watching him play.

I really think he is a great player, but he is just selfish and needs to learn to share, at least thats what I think... Is anyone else yelling at the tv when they see him get double teamed?

Yes I agree Salmons does not recognize the team defense very well and tries to drive in and usually ends up taking bad shots but if you really think about it the whole team is pretty weak in that aspect of the game but thats because we got a lot of young players.

It's kind of strange. I'd rather see Martin be as aggressive as Salmons and Salmons be as passive as Martin.

Too bad Martin decided to take the night off. Didn't nearly attack with the same aggressiveness, and chose to shoot jumpers all game. At least Salmons was attempting to make things happen. If Martin or Salmons don't do it, who will? Spencer might be able to from the post, eventually. Maybe JT down the road. But right now? It's either Salmons or Martin.

I didnt even watch the game but im sure most players just cant wait for the real season to start.

Is it bad form on my first post to point out that Salmons led the team in assists tonight?
no, but it still doesn't change the fact that he will make stupid plays down the stretch that could have at least led to a open shot, but instead it became a 3 vs 1 in the paint that doesn't usually go well. Of course it could be that he takes those stupid shots because the rest of the team sucks...:(

lol i think next year its going to be Mickey Moore. Especially if he starts over Thompson.

I hate him already if that is the case. He is truly useless in so many ways as a starter. I cant freaking take it. At least kenny thomas rebounds.

You are not alone on this.

I think someone in the team should tell Salmons that he should stay away from playing the way Jordan, Kobe, or Iverson play. He does not have " IT ". He will never be near the talent of those superstars I mentioned with regards to the ability to create their own opportunities to score for themselves and alone . He is just not athletic enough, nor strong, nor skilled to do it. It's time for him to quit on proving he can do it and save himself ( and the Kings' fans ) from further anguish. At the very least he should think that his brand of play is not helping the team at all.

Actually Salmons led the team in turnovers with 5, and Brown led in assists with 6.

Sorry to have to correct you with my first.:)

Oops, my bad. Have you ever seen the ESPN box scores revert to an early point in the game right when the game ends. Must've happened.

I agree that Salmons hogs the ball a lot and that he'll be the next person people target to hate, but for me, as long as he keeps scoring (someone else has to other than Martin) and occasionally passing the ball, I'm more ok with it.

In Salmons defense, Kevin was staying on the perimeter bricking 3 pointers all night long.

Who else would you have take the clutch shots?

OK! Enough is enough. Did any of you watch the game, or did you just look at posts on this board. Martin was 7 out of 16 from the floor and got to the freethrow line 8 times. Happens to be the most on the team. Guess who got there the second most times? John Salmons! 5 times.

If you want to pick on someone and scream at your TV, look no further than Bobby Brown. 1 out of 10 from the floor and two stinking assists. He couldn't stay in front of his man on defense and he doesn't rebound. As far as Kenny Thomas at least being able to rebound. Well he must have forgotten how last night when he recorded 0 rebounds and played defense by shoving the other guy in the chest as he goes up for a shot.

In defense of Salmons, if there is one, is that I don't think he knows any other way to play. He's a pretty good outside shooter, but continues to pass up the outside shot to drive into a crowd. Some nights it works and some nights it doesn't. Do I scream at my TV at times? Yes! But for now were stuck with Salmons and his style of play. It would help if the rest of the team would spread the floor more when he has the ball, and hopefully, that will come with more time playing together.

I stated in an earlier thread that I wasn't sure Salmons fits on this team. We'll see as the season progresses. Bobby Brown needs to be more of a pass first pt guard, or his days will be numbered, along with his minutes.

Salmons had 5 assists the past 2 games at the half. Guess how many he finished with in each game? Yep 5.

It's like the first half mr pass time and the second half is I'm mr dribble.

The only thing I disagree on is highlighted.

BTW - I have complained about Salmon's ball hogging since he became a King. While I do not hate ( a word loosely thrown around way too often) him, I dislike him and I have always disliked him. Since he is a Sacramento King, I will not hate him.

I still don't get the Salmons hate.

Sure, he is selfish sometimes, but he has to be, look at our team.

W/out Beno, Salmons and Martin are the only people on this team that can create their own shot. In addition, he is by far the best defender on this team.

Would you rather have Hawes take 23 ft jumpers from the perimeter?

I'll post later my thoughts. But here's something espn wrote about John.

MY FAVORITE SEMI-SLEEPERS

I'm not a huge fan, but it sure seems as if he's getting minutes, shots, touches and everything else for a lousy Kings team. When you're running your offense through John Salmons, you're basically announcing to the league, "This is a rebuilding year."

Bobby Brown = Orien Greene x2. I am glad we have BJax, because Brown just flat out sucks.

On the topic of Salmons.. At least he doesn't sit there with the ball. I don't want the guy on the Kings, but he is no Ron Artest when it comes to frustrating me on the offensive end.

Bobby Brown is definitely a work in progress but Petrie wouldn't have hired him if he "flat out" sucked. Some of you are way too judgmental about players who haven't really had a chance to even get their feet wet in the NBA yet...

That is exactly what he does sometimes. Holds the ball for 10 seconds then makes a move with 5 left on the shot clock.

a) I have never liked John Salmons. didn't like him before he came here, was not in favor of signing him, have been on record all the way. Think he's selfish and borderline useless unless things are going his way.

b) that said, by mid year last year I was already beginning to say that you could install John as a cost effective starter with the production we were getting out of him, and this preseason I think its both gratifying (as I still don't like him and am glad to have company) but also just a little too easy to pile on and blame him for everything. He DOES hold the ball too long, and he DOES just stupidly drive into traffic blatantly unaware of having any teammates. And for all of that, he was still our #2 assist man during the preseason. Like Ron before him, people see him sitting on the ball and then totally ignore that when he doesn't he is one of the few guys on the team that can create.

John Salmons preseason assists: 31.6min 2.7ast
Kevin Martin preseason assists: 28.0min 1.3ast

And the stat between Kevin and our SF was very similar last year when Ron was in town. And yet people will with great persistence argue about how wonderfully unselfish etc. Kevin is, how his passing has improved so much, and then turn right around and complain bitterly about how John is singlehandedly stopping the ball and preventing us from getting any assists. Without in any way attempting to defend John's lamentable tendency to sit on the ball, there would seem to be a pretty clear double standard being employed. I don't particularly like Salmons as a starter, think he has to go for us to fully commit to the youth movement. But there comes a point when perspective is being lost. He's a problem, not the problem.

I think the biggest argument they have is that Kevin just don't hold the ball long. Salmons like Artest lead Kevin in ast. But they hold the ball and create where Kevin creates and/or shoots just seconds after he gets the ball. Therefore Salmons and Artest get the ballhog tag because they hold it setting up their play.

Or setting up Kevin's play.

Or Mikki's, or whoever else gets those extra passes.

There is no question Ron and John have and always will take more time setting up their own offense than Kevin does. But there is more to it than that -- they are also looking to, at times at least, set up other people, something Kevin almost does not have to worry about at all. Neither Ron or John is particularly good at that all things considered -- they are not geniuses at the level of a Nash or LeBron who can see the whole floor and find the right guy. But they still do SOME of it, which is a lot more than certain heroically worshipped players in town do.

And this is not about Kevin -- he has his role to play, and plays it well. But it is about the seemliness of savaging a guy for selfishness on a night when he racks up 5 assists while Kevin racks up 0 without ill comment, and the entire rest of the team gets 9. The criticism of Ron and John is valid, always was. But if the guy getting more than 1/3 of your assists is deemed a dog, then the rest of the pathertic crew deserves at least as much heat.

Brown is fine with me because he isn't being payed or played during the reg. seaso'. He is the least of our concerns. He is no rodney stucky thats for sure, but he sure does like to play like him. Salmons is the key, if he allows himself, stats are a breeze for salmons, he's more of a season kind of guy. He likes to perform during the season some time, like for 1/3 of the season, he is seasonably good. Salmon's shot looks like he has been thinking about it over the summer, which is a good thing. I think Brown is Salmons friend, and they knew eachother, since 2000 and Petrie was just trying something new to motivate salmons. Salmons has intriguing variables in his game, mostly related to defensive statistics. Lots of minutes to go around this year, i hope somebody does something of consequence, instead of just scoring, and salmons probably is the most capable of doing that, amazing statistical/beautiful triple double award. Ill be looking for that this year, if we start off the year with a triple double, its always nice to be talked about. NBA humans.

Nah.. Sometimes, but not like the former SF we had.. But I do not like Salmons either so meh... Salmons is not known as a ball holder.. Never seen him do it more than a couple times a game.

It is probably more a reflection on HOW John 'racks' up those assists. Shoving the ball into Mikki's hands (although a safe pass as far as Mikki is concerned) because you have dribbled yourself so far under the basket with 3 players on you that you, yourself, CAN'T take the shot or passing the ball in desperation to a team-mate for a last second shot because you have used up the shot clock dribbling and LOOKING for that penetration can result in assists, but they aren't that pretty to watch, nor do they inspire that feeling of 'team ball' often associated with high assist number.
John rarely looks for team mates with an easier shot as a first or even second option, and that is where the criticism comes.
Kevin does look for team mates. I'm not entirely sure that he SHOULD in some cases, but that is another can of worms entirely.
