Sacramento signs Jamal Sampson

Is it not at all nerve racking that we are picking the leftovers off the Bobcats? First Hart, now Sampson.
 
I don't think Sampson will cause the removal of Skinner. I would play Skinner over Sampson any day. Sampson has played a total of 53 games in 3 years.
 
Yeah I would like to see Skinner stay around the most out of the philly 3, unless Thomas would be placed to come off the bench. If Skinner does stay, great, if not, accepted.
 
Jamal Sampson has zero offensive skills to speak of. When was the last time Adelman gave anyone consistent minutes if they couldn't at least score by accident? Jamal will either be a training camp cut or he'll spend the whole season in Gerald Wallace's old seat on the bench.

Just a reminder:

Do the names David Bluthenthal and Ricky Minard mean anything?

Players get signed every year before training camp. That doesn't mean they're going to make it to the first game of the year... and with the addition of the NBDL there's every reason to assume at least a couple of our acquisitions might end up there.

Half Baked?

Well, this is good news for anybody that wanted to see the Kings sign Steven Hunter. At this point, Sampson is not the shotblocker Hunter is, but he has the potential to be, and he is already a better rebounder. Basically, Sampson is a low risk gamble on a guy who could become the athletic PF/C the Kings could use off the bench.

Sampson is still only 22 (almost two years younger than Hunter) and still has some potential to be tapped. When he was at Cal, I had high hopes for him, but I was almost shocked when he declared for the draft. He was clearly not ready for the NBA at that point, but I always figured he would be one day. I guess we'll see.

It's kinda like what we did last year. We grab guys, we see what they got in the pre-season..and by the regular season, we have 12 guys. ;)

roster sizes are larger this year so we are going to be signing more players than usual. with that said i don't think we signed sampson to play any minutes but to be a cheerleader at the end of the bench with erik daniels
 
Erik Daniels is a unrestricted free-agent, not yet known if he'll be back, but he did improve himself overall. From seeing the VSL games, and reading that article about him on Sacbee.
 
With unrestricted free agents like Daniels, you tend to assume they AREN'T going to be back unless you hear something definitive in the other direction. If anything, I think he could benefit from some time in the NBDL>

I havnt gotten a chance to look thru all 4 pages of discussion here, but I watched Sampson play at Cal and I've always been impressed with what he can do. I see this as a good pickup that could turn into a goldmine.

I'm always for the Kings signing ex-Cal players :D.
 
This isnt going to affect Skinner's playing time in anyway, Skinner is a far better player then Sampson, and proven, and when Skinners on his game he can really help us in the areas we need help with, I think if Sampson makes the roster he will be there In-case of injuries. And why not take a chance on a 6'11 Athletic shot blocker/rebounder, if he can develop right then who knows how good he could get.
 
I think what it comes down to is that every NBA team needs at least two 7 footers on the team. With Ostertag out, we needed another one. Consider that niche filled.

lol i dunno about that, but i guess you could make that point

prob is, im pretty sure hes only 6'11". maybe yahoo sports has his mismeasured.

I think of him as in case of injury, in case of bad play, and somewhat of a project. I think petrie has been bored with just having 2guard projects since jabari left :D.
 
People seem lukewarm on this for the most part- benchwarmer, more Bobcat scraps- but 22 year old 7 footers don't come along every day. And it's not like he hasn't shown potential- he already has good rebounding numbers and can score decently. Think of it as a draft pick, cause this guy sure wasn't ready for the NBA when he entered. Almost no downside to this signing, I'm sure the Kings didn't spend too much on him and if he doesn't pan out we've still got Skinner. The mere possibility that we just aquired a future "elite center" (from hoopshype) pleases me. Not expecting much immediate big impact, but hope for the future. Nice move.
