SAC/ORL (Not Miller to Orlando)

Salmons and SAR

for

Garrity, Dooling and Bogans

Why we do it? We sacrifice a good player in Salmons to dump SAR's contract. We get expirings back that alone would not seem worth it, but in combination with our other expirings, could give us a chance to make a real dip in FA.

Why they do it? Orlando looks pretty weak at SG with former King Mo Evans starting. Salmons, who IMO is a SG, would give Orlando another ballhandler, scorer, distributer and perimeter defender at a reasonably priced contract. Swallowing SAR's contract sucks, but might be worth it for them considering they are giving up nothing.

No no no no no.

There really isn't any reason the Kings do it. You want to Shed SAR's contract, and get a bunch of expiring contracts for a decent SG/SF? Makes no sense.. I have seen worse, but there is no reason to trade Salmons at this point. Now if we keep Artest there might be. But at this moment, no... The FAs will want to have to come play here, and w/ no prospects of winning we will have to get Boston like lucky.

Bogans, potentially, can actually have the makings of a Bruce Bowen type player. Already a very good three point shooter and has a reputation as being a fine perimeter defender. That being said, I'm not sure if we can use a Keith Bogans-type player--although for an upper echelon team like Orlando, I think he's right where he wants--and needs--to be. He's precisely the X-factor guy a playoff team might need.

I like Dooling though. Not a point guard, but finally has cemented himself as quite the athletic slashing undersized 2-guard who can score and make an impact off the bench. Again, though, he's probably the stuff of playoff teams, and not really for us. I'd rather develop Douby then lunge for Dooling.

Garrity? He's done. No way.

Hehe, I was not very forthcoming. I could care less about the players that we would be getting. They are simply placeholders for the rest of the year. I wouldn't consider resigning any of them. But that extra cap space along with the expirings we are currently holding, would total close to $20 Mil.

That would allow us to obtain any free agent we want.

I still like Salmons, and particularly if we trade Artest (which seems more likely than trading Salmons), I think it's safe to say Salmons could re-achieve that scoring renaissance he had with us earlier in the season. I don't think he's worth "expirings." Honestly, I don't think we need to develop an obsession with expiring contracts--we already got three expirings from Bibby, why get 3 more? Sometimes we just have to stick with what we have, and in Salmons' case, it's worth it.

Another thing at stake is that with Orlando's poor bench, they'd probably keep Dooling (who's actually having a nice year, finally) and Bogans. Both are playoff type contributors and I'm sure Orlando has noticed that, even if they are expiring. But that's something they'd probably deal with at the end of the season.

As cheap as Garcia and Salmons are, why get rid of them unless as necessary to complete a trade to dump Kenny/Ron? I don't get dumping them. Productive and relatively inexpensive. You need guys like that.

Plus, the 2 for 3 scenario will put us over the 15 player limit. Which will make the extra expiring money a moot point. And if you think about it, after this season, we'd be down to 9 players with 6 expiring contracts. (7 or 8 if you include Beno and Artest)
