I think that Cleavland should send their first rounder to NY because they are dumping Hughes and getting a solid PG and a Offensive Force down low.

The kings get good young players and despite taking a few contracts (but still don't extend past next year) we get good value.

First off, under this scenario we're trading away about $21M of salary and getting about $12M back. Won't work under the CBA.

Second, the return is horrible. Newble and James are dead weight, and I don't particularly like either Gibson or Robinson, who would both be behind Udrih on my depth chart. Basically we get David Lee (and somehow have to find another $9M of contracts to take back). If we can't get better than this for Bibby + Artest I say hold on to them.

I like David Lee, and I suppose he'd be a decent return for Artest alone, but this is a crippling trade. This is a tank-the-season trade. If you're going to tank a season, you've got to do it before February. At this point, tanking would basically move us from about the #13 pick to the #9 pick or so. I don't see the point of doing that.

IT works in the trade machine. But I guess your right It doesn't seem like it would add up... Hmm. anyway, Ron is gonna walk for nothing. Mike for Robinson and boobie is a good deal for us. Beno is good but I don't see him as the starting PG on a championship team. Nooone in this deal is going to help a championship team. This is a salary dump for us to get young talent.

We will not make the playoffs so there is no need to hold anyone. the 10th seed is 8 games or so above 500. 8!! we are 3 under... we will not make the playoffs and we should be looking to rebuild asap

I'm guessing "boobie" is Daniel Gibson? Talentwise, I don't agree that Robinson and Gibson are worth Bibby. But the ultimate issue...

This is a salary dump for us to get young talent.
Under the assumption that Ron is going to walk, he is an expiring contract. His salary is already "dumped". So there's not much reason to trade him unless we get something valuable - a pick or a good young player. Bibby has another year, so we could get about $13M off the books but it depends on the contracts we take back. The above trade is $9M short, and I doubt we'd be able to find another $9M in expirings in this deal. Once a deal in this mold is worked out under cap rules, we'd still be on the hook for James and Robinson in '08-'09 (I don't count Lee because he'd be an asset) and likely more - shaving $6M or less off of what we would have owed Bibby. That's not a lot of savings.

Under those circumstances I'd rather just stick with Bibby.

Honestly...I'm ok with Artest walking and us getting nothing than taking back crap. In my book that free's up some money, and we already have a person to take Artest's place. We don't need to have every dollar spent.

I understand getting value for value, but sometimes you're better servered letting that extra bill go away. There is nothing wrong with that at times.

our pg rotation would suck... how lucky would thomas and reef be to be paid so much to do so little?

I just see it as dumping talent and salary for youth? If we don't want to extend the youth to contracts then we have essentially just dumped mike and ron's contract... but at least lets try to get something ...

Lets face it. We are no where near competing for a championship again. Martin is good but he will never be the "go to guy" on the leagues best team. He could be a solid scoring options 2nd, but likely 3rd, on a contending team. Every good team needs a good big man. I know that is hard to come by... but we should be looking to the draft and to free agents... to do that we must gut our team

The Kings really get the short end of the stick, talent-wise, and I don't think the salary relief comes quick enough to warrant that. It would be better for the Kings to let Artest walk, and trade Bibby alone.
