Since then, the Lakers have maintained the status quo by re-signing Luke Walton and Chris Mihm. (It'll be nice to see Derek Fisher back in a Lakers' uniform, but let's not kid ourselves that this changes what they essentially are.) According to sources, they've also declined an offer of Ron Artest for Lamar Odom, dangled Kwame Brown, Brian Cook and Andrew Bynum for Jermaine O'Neal but said no to the Pacers' offer of O'Neal for Odom and Bynum."
This had nothing to do with the N.Y. trade, but at the same time it wasnt worth starting a new thread
here it is:

At least we know that Petrie is trying out there and isnt sitting still.
What exactly does Odom for Artest do for us? Absolutely nothing! That's what it does for us. At least he's trying? Trying to do what? Make stupid and pointless moves?

Odom would be a valuable piece if he could pull that off.....salaries don't match at all though.
Guys who are pissed off at Petrie for not getting anything done may want to look at it this way......he hasn't made a bad move yet either. I'm sure we'll get some people responding to this by saying Moore's signing was bad. Moore comes off the book when he needs to. Price wanted more than we were willing to give up....sorry Price fans but he is a backup and let's not make a big deal over losing a career backup.
I'm talking more of the trading of Bibby, Artest and/or B Miller. Those are the make or break deals that Petrie is waiting on. He's being patient until the right deal comes along. It's not like alot of teams are clamoring for our 3 players. Bibby coming off a bad year and has a bad contract, Artest is Artest, and B Miller just sucks.
Odom would fit pretty well with Bibby/Martin though. He's kinda like a poor man's KG in that he can run, pass, rebound, shoot a mid range J, play in the post, etc. He compliments both of them pretty well. And he expires in 2009.
His mid range shot sucks as much as his 3 pt shot does.
Odom is not the answer for a rebuilding squad, but he guy is a heckuva player if there is an attempt to initmate otherwise. Not an All Star, but just south. If we mattered, he would always be an interesting pickup. And as we don't , if that trade's there, then it represnets a way to get stable value out of Artest and secure a future trade chip.
Valuable for what? He won't get us into the playoffs or at least anywhere that would matter and he won't help us rebuild. What does he do again?
His mid range shot sucks as much as his 3 pt shot does.
He creates mismatch problems and basically would be the most talented guy on our team. You must be kidding.
its a lateral move that provides us with a good trading chip. last season, the Lakers were off to a great start... without Kobe! A lot of that had to do with Odom. Odom would have a chance to shine here, and could eventually be tradedArtest right now is the easily the most talented guy on our roster, it's a pretty irrelevant label but that's beside the point. Odom is not an over the top player and he's not a rebuilding piece. He doesn't really get us anywhere. lateral move for the most part.

So a guy who is to quick for power forwards to guard, who can knock down a 3, can post up smaller SF's, can penetrate, pass, run, and board....your going to knock his mid-range J?

Odom, the player not the Lakers, I like. He's a very good player, but he's a 2nd fiddle guy. Much like Mike Bibby is. In fact, I'd say he's a similar level player as Mike Bibby at the 3/4 position as Mike is at PG. the fact of the matter is, Artest > Odom in nearly every facet of the game other than rebounding. I actually think Odom may be a better fit for our roster than Artest, but Artest is the better player. It's either wash or vantage Artest minus rebounding.
An Artest trade to New York including Balkman and Rose would have to include Collins, rather than Robinson. Otherwise, the salaries don't match. It will be interesting to see if they bite.
How the Knicks could turn down an offer like this is beyond me. Balkman is nice but he has no offensive game. His value is somewhat limited because of that. He's an energy guy that plays defense. I'd love to have the guy but in reality Artest is a top 20-30 talent with a good contract. Artest could be a difference maker on that team. Balkman can't. If NY turned down an offer of Balkman, Collins and Rose or a Balkman, Robinson, Collins or whatever deal, Zeke is an idiot......then again it's Zeke.
You're correct; I just used the ESPN Trade Machine.Actually unless my math is off I think it should work either way -- remember its within 25% under the new CBA. So Ron's salary is $7.8mil, + (7.8 x.25) = 7.8 + 1.95 = $9.75mil, so I think anything under that would fly. Meanwhile Malik ($7.1) Nate ($1.27) Renaldo ($1.23) = $9.6mil. So should work. (Malik, Renaldo + Collins = $9.37).
Not just a question of them biting unfortunately (and that 1st is the kicker for me). You have to have a motivated seller too. I'm not sure ours has a pulse, let alone motivation.
