Just a plain and simple thread...if the ping pong balls do go our way and we get the 1st overall selection what do we do? Take griffin or rubio?

rubio is less risk and fills a bigger need. i don't think griffin will be a franchise player...he'll be good...but not distinguishably better than jt or hawes...good point guards are few and far between. we should also try and get jonny flynn. ;)

This was really hard for me to vote on. I honestly am not sure still...

I do think that Griffin will be the better player, but not by much. I REALLY want Rubio at the same time though.

Its been already said but yeah...

Griffin has less of a bust potential. At the very LEAST he'd probably bang his way to being a 16/10 PF. I dont think he has that much potential as a star though. Allstar yes, but franchise player....No. Probably 23/12 is his ceiling. JT will probably max out around 16/10 himself, so drafting Blake would be a bit redundant.

Rubio OTOH....He does have bust potential, but he also has some star potential. I want us to swing for the fences on this draft. If we nab ourselves a PG who can put up 10 + assists a night....Everyone on our roster gets better. And honestly, a busted Rubio>>>>Beno.

I won't be upset if we get Griffin at all, but I really like Rubio, and think this team needs a PG prospect instead of Bobby Jackson and the future HOF'er Udrih. That being said though, I think Griffin goes #1 either way. Whether we take him and trade him for Rubio I don't know, but...I see Griffin being taken #1

I think the question should be: "Who will they end up with?" because of the slight possibility of a trade down for Rubio. If there is no trade down opportunity I still think they bite the bullet and take Rubio, they risk getting a bad reaction from the fanbase going against the consensus no.1, who is a big name college player, in favor of the "Euro" player. I think ultimately they'd pick on need, I think they're more desperate for a creator leader type who can give the team identity.

Watching those Rubio clips reminds me of the Jason Williams days, waiting to see what crazy move JW had done in the last last game...

I will be thrilled to get either the #1 or the #2 pick. I believe Geoff will work it out. Hey, what else have we got but hope. I chose Rubio only because the need is greater.

I think you're splitting hairs but my point was that there had already been some pretty good discussion about Rubio v. Griffin. Had I thought the thread was duplicative, I would have either closed or merged it.

I lien towards unique sensational talent of Ricky Rubio, but I would be quite OK with likely very solid pro Blake Griffin. I assume even if it's Griffin the Kings will still get a decent PG at pick #23 (Eric Maynor - but I think VCU star probably goes 15-20) and/or at #31 or via free agency. I trust GP will get a good evaluation of Rubio on his current overseas trip which includes European basketball championship tourney.

Griffin would be awfully hard to pass on as an individual player if we draw #1, but I kind of hope we end up with Rubio one way or another, because he has the most potential to fundamentally alter the team with his skills.

I think that it should be noted that when Petrie was on Grants show, Grant asked about the possibility of drafting a european player, without mentioning Rubio by name, and the trouble teams have had in the past with buyouts. Petrie was crystal clear in his answer. He said that the Kings would not draft anyone that they didn't know in advance couldn't be signed. He said there is no way the Kings would draft someone that couldn't play on the team next year.

If you take him at his word, that tells me that if there's even the slightest chance that there would be a problem signing Rubio, he would scratched off the list. I've sort of gotten caught up in the Rubio movement myself. But he's not the be all, end all of points guards. At least not yet. We could draft him and four years later be kicking ourselves for not trading down and drafting Teague who ended up being an all star.

I think Petrie wants, needs, and impact player. Someone that can come in and play now and make a difference. So when you look down that list of players available, who would you take. Take into account that Petrie likes players with a certain level of skill. Setting Griffin and Rubio aside as obvious choices, who else? Not necessarilly at the 1 or the 2, because you can always trade down if need be.

My opinion is, Thabeet, a thin maybe. Not Petrie's type of player because of lack of skills, but could, maybe, please be an impact player next year. Hill, nope! Could end up being an impact player in a couple of years, but I doubt next year. Hardin, I don't think so. I really like him, and he has all the skills, but I don't see him as an impact player. Jennings, could be. I don't really know enough about his game, other than he's quick and athletic. Again, I doubt it because he's just not ready now. Teague, I have to say yes on this one. Like him or not, he has the ability to impact a game, and right now. Curry, another yes, maybe for the wrong reasons sometimes, but there's no doubt that he can have an impact. Henderson, sort of a dark horse. Certainly skilled enough. Athletic enough, but not a super athlete. Kind of a maybe guy, who may be flying under the radar, and be better in the pro's than he was in college. Clark, nope! Lawson, yeah, maybe. He's verticaly challenged, but really quick. Certainly skilled enough. Williams, I doubt it.

That brings me to my dark horse. He's been slotted all over the boards from 12 to 22. Tyreke Evans. There are times I just wanted to take him aside and shake sense into him. But this kid is really talented, and I think could be an impact player. He'll drive you nuts at times taking ill advised shots, but I think he can be really good. Now if we get the first pick in the draft, then disregard everything I've written. But if were unlucky and end up fourth, then we enter the gray zone. I've probably just given Bricky an ulcer. I apologize in advance.:)

Okay, so now we're going to have yet another thread revolving around the same thing? ...sigh...

I will be so glad when the draft is over. It seems like no matter how the thread starts out, it inevitably ends up another discussion of the merits/flaws of the same players over and over and over again...

:)

Well you can think of it this way... as we get closer to the draft we can use these reoccurring "Griffin v Rubio" threads as a way to gauge peoples stance on this issue...for instance there seems to be alot more "Pro Rubio" attitude than previous threads. The poll indicates that as well considering it now stands that Rubio is favored 3:1 while in the previous poll is was nearly 1:1... so its kind of cool to see how the fans wants are changing. ;)

I liked Griffin at first, but the more i thought about it the more i realized we NEED Rubio. Hes the playmaker Martin needs beside him. He'll be coming into a perfect oppurtunity to grow with and lead this young team. Plus he will bring alot of fanbase from spain and overseas to the kings. Maybe enough to keep them in Sacramento for a long time. Griffin is good... but when you watch Rubio you can just see that he has superstar potential and at the most difficult position.

Sorry to say it, but until the draft actually happens, every thread is a draft thread.

(Well, except for the obligatory "I can't believe we got the 4th pick, Stern fixed the lottery against us" thread on May 19th. ;))
