Roy Hibbert to the Kings becoming more popular

After the article in the NY Daily it appears that more and more mock drafts are showing the Kings taking Hibbert at #12. I'm sure the article was mere speculation but there may be something to it. Is that a good thing and even if so is it a reach?

I remember last year that I was disappointed that Hibbert returned to school because I really wanted the Kings to get him. On the other hand I agreed with the decision because I believed Hibbert would be a top 5 pick this year.

Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of improvement in his senior year, not a drop off but certainly not improvement. Although after watching many Georgetown games this year I didn't think they used him very well, or any of their stars for that matter. The offense was too structured and they were focused more on the system than the players and it's players that win games.

My opinion is that taking him at #12 is a reach but I wouldn't be totally disappointed by getting him, I'm not sure how he would get minutes behind Miller and Hawes because he will have to play center.

I'm all for it. What I'm looking for in this draft is size, and Hibbert is that at 7'2 278 lbs. I'm tired of watching guys score inside the paint, Hibbert brings that intimidation. I'll be happy with him or if Brook Lopez falls. I don't want anymore swingmen.

My opinion is that if there was ever a year for Geoff to grow a set on draft day, and swing a trade of one of our vets for a second pick in the #10-#25 range, this would be the year. There are several young centers projected to go late teens/early 20s who might have a real chance to succeed in our system, and you could pair them with Spencer and call that position handled for many years to come. But you take that same kid at #12 and its a reach and you are maybe ignoring other needs.

Hibbert is slow, not very agile and not someone who gets up and down on a break. We've had a couple of those so no thanks. Anything the NY New says about Sacramento Kings is filler and blue sky. 44% of the Mocks I looked at this weekend had Randolph at #12 and none had Hibbert. Look at the centers in the west on the good teams, they are mobile, quick, good hands, defend and rebound and can get up and down (Suns excluded). To compete Kings have to be same and a bit better in year or so. Hibbert doesn't get them there at all.

Do you mean Brad and #12 for Swift and or Hassel and #10? Because thats the only way i see New Jersey accepting.

Weren't there reports that Hibbert lost weight? My only real knock on him last year was his mobility, especially lateral mobility. But if he is a little quicker now that he lost a few pounds, I would not be averse to bringing him in.

Does anyone know if he lost weight, and if so how much?

First off, let me say that I don't think that NJ is going to do this deal. I'm also not sure that their totally commited to rebuilding. They have Harris at the pt. Jefferson at the SF position. Carter at the 2 guard. Sean Williams, who is probably their PF of the future. They really need a good center, and Brad would be a good addition to their team. One must always remember that they play in the east, where making the playoffs isn't that hard to do.

Hibbert and Sactown were briefly discussed in a Salt Lake paper wherein his agent thought the Kings might have brought him in to play against other BIGs there were considering, not necessarily Hibbert himself. Makes sense as he is not a #12 pick and too slow and non-athletic to run with Hawes-Martin-Beno bunch.

But the NJ trade scenario could make sense and it gets the Kings a second and higher pick. and helps their salary cap. But, is Hawes gonna be ready to start this coming year? Hard to imagine but one never knows does one???

I totally agree, this is one of the deepest drafts we've seen for awhile. Not because there are so many potential superstars but because you can get a talent at #25 that is just as good as at #10. This being the case it also makes our second rounders a little bit more valuable. I would say a veteran + a second rounder this year might get us another pick around #20 or so. We can't really trade down as there are no teams with multiple 1st round picks in the later stages.

For the time being I think they're rebuilding, they're aiming for the 2010 FA class. So it's no secret they're open to moving either Jefferson or Carter for cap space, picks, prospects. So they're really not looking to trade young pieces for veterans that don't have much left in the tank.

When they re-signed Carter, it was a much different situation. They have a different GM now with most likely a different goal. Brad doesn't get in the way of LeBron, but he doesn't help build around LeBron either; this pick could be a solid piece to compete if/once they get him. I don't think they'll mind making the playoffs or anything like that, but they're not going to sacrifice picks for the sake of competing right now.

Yeah, I read in the Salt Lake Tribune this morning that the Kings have invited Hibbert back to Sacramento for a second look. If the Kings are interested in Hibbert, and thats a big IF, It could mean that they have plans for Miller to be elsewhere.

I'm not one thats excited by Hibbert, but to be fair to him, he played well against Oden and in most of the big games. He is a presence in the middle and a pretty good shotblocker. I've just never understood why he didn't rebound better than he did.

I would think that a package of Salmons or Garcia and a 2nd rounder would get us another 1st round pick. I'm not saying I want that, just that it could happen.

Toronto will take Robin Lopez if he slips past Phoenix, I'm pretty sure of it. It appears the Bobcats are interested in Hibbert though

Toronto is in desperate need of defense and rebounding so picking up Robin Lopez makes a lot of sense. I haven't heard anything about Hibbert going to the bobcats. If you could give me a source on that it would be appreciated. From what i have read they were looking to take Lopez or Westbrook.
