Ronnie Price=PG of the future for us

I know a lot of people will say I'm crazy for saying this but this is what I think. I think he has a lot of potential. IMO he's getting a lot better at running the team and he's starting to even get good at creating shots for others. He had a few assists tonight in a small amount of PT. He's a great athlete and he plays great D. His shooting needs some work, he needs to work on hitting shots consistently but he can hit those shots. He seems to have a good work ethic. He needs to get a bit more confident but I think that will come with some more PT. He just needs to be aggressive. But I really like what I'm seeing from him so far, especially considering he was supposed to be a scoring guard and he hasn't gotten very much time yet. But he has started to change his game a bit and I like how he runs the team when he's in there.

Does anyone else think he has a lot of potential?

He may as well be our PG of the future, since it seems like late picks and undrafted guys are going to be what we have to work with. He has a ways to go, but he's already looking better than Smush Parker, so what the heck.

I like Ronnie, because he's a very hard worker, determined and he's clearly athletic. I also thing he's improving at playing the PG position. PG of the future? I'm not ready to annoint him that yet. Considering he was undrafted, I think he was a good pick up by GP and am glad to see him work so hard. He's certainly having to earn his place.

I think Ronnie going undrafted says a lot more about the NBA draft than it does about Ronnie Price.

Well from what I know about Price he went to a smaller college where he didn't really get noticed. I also noticed that a lot of people draft guys from Europe who might have potential in the last 1st/all of the 2nd round. So guys like Ronnie who had pretty good college careers get passed up. And don't forget the guys like the ones Seattle just drafted who get drafted early just because they can dunk and are tall.

You got that right, he played for a college in Orem, Utah (north of Provo, east of Vineyard, south of Lindon). People talked about Justin playing in a weak conference, no! Utah Valley State defines "weak conference." But even guys with a ton of potential can play in weak conferences. I was very surprised that he ever got a chance.

I think he can be a rotation player.

But the PG of the future? As in starter, the guy we trot out to face Chris Paul and Tony Parker every night of the season? That I considerably doubt. This is an important stetch for Ronnie actually -- he needs to continue to play well here to get a guaranteed contract from somebody next year -- not necessairly us. Otheriwse he;s looking at camp invite type status, and at some point you;ve got to get past that to trulty establish yourself.

This is the Kings and all but I would be shocked if Ronnie doesn't sign a long term deal with the Kings this offseason.

I want him on my team. He does have potential. But I doubt very much he can be a starter, at least not a top eschelon starter. I think though he could be an outstanding sub in the future. He seems to be showing more vision on the court, and with more playing time, hopefully that continues. I really like the guy so I hope he sticks with the Kings for a long time.

I see Ronnie's potential as a possible solid rotation guy. And there is nothing wrong with that at all. We need that type on the team, too. If he could be our "Bobby Jackson" of the future, I'd say we win on that non-draft pick-up.

It's kind of funny.....in 1998 the Dallas Mavericks traded for a 2nd/3rd string PG from Phoenix and decided to make him the starter. About 99.8% of the DFW area believed it to be a joke (and a really dumb trade) because in their minds (and in the minds of Phoenix) this guy would be a rotation player at best.

As it turns out, the guy does okay as a starting PG.

I guess a lot of the variation in views on Ronnie's role isn't so much our belief in Ronnie's quality as a player, so much as how lowered our expectations for the team are. If we are lucky enough to have someone like Acie Laws available when our draft pick rolls around, AND Petrie actually picks him, then Ronnie's out the window as anything more than a sparkplug. But if we're going to go through another year or more with Bibby and Ronnie as our only options, then Ronnie obviously wins by default.

I don't dare expect Acie Laws, but I am willing to expect that Ronnie gets another dirt-cheap contract.

99.8% of the DFW area were apparently none too bright?

Nash was a first round pick with a lot of potential coming out of college. A pure PG that just hadn't fully blossomed on Phx teams that were absolutely STACKED with perhaps the best roster of PGs in NBA history. At one point there they had Kevin Johnson, Sam Cassel, Jason Kidd, AND Steve Nash all on the roster in the same year, and Nash was the kid of the group.

Comparing Nash's situation, where in Yr 2 he had already blossomed into a 20min/game backup pure PG to Price's is just a tiny bit of a stretch. Might as well compare Justin Williams career arc to Jermaine O'Neal's.

I was not really comparing the two situations. I was just reminded of 1998 when I was living in Dallas I heard all that stuff from the papers, radio and TV talk etc. It does seem funny now and makes me smile.

My real point is that the world of sports is full of unlikely stories that nobody sees coming and that is what I love about sports. If we could all just sit here and predict what is going to happen in the future I would not find sports nearly so enjoyable.

So, as a Kings fan and a Ronnie Price fan, I hold out hope that he is the next Steve Nash and we were the ones smart enough to sign him and keep him.......it really could happen.

that will, ultimately, not happen. it takes a really special talent to see the court like nash does. he's more aware of his teammates than any player in the nba. he's also perhaps one of the least selfish players in the nba. he's always looking for the open man. he's always looking for the best opportunity to score. those kind of point guards come around once in a generation. it would be more wise to hold out hope that ronnie price is the next bobby jackson, which could, conceivably, happen...if the minutes are there for him. he's got the quickness and the athleticism to be a great spark plug off the bench. if his shooting and decision-making continue to improve, then the future is bright for ronnie price. it'd be nice if the kings had themselves a gem in ronnie proce, but i wouldn't hope for the next steve nash. ;)

Physically, Ronnie Price is pretty good. He's strong and fast. He can throw down a dunk, not those Iverson layup dunks. He can dominate most PGs physically if he learns how to use his body like Cassell posting down smaller PGs. But to be future PG he needs to have the mentality, court awareness and shooting touch. Right now all I see with him are drive and kicks, a schoolyard play I do myself. Perhaps the coaching staff should work with him exclusively on learning and reading pick and roll situations and watch a lot of Kidd tapes. Ultimately, if he's to be a true PG its going to be a project and one that he accepts which he seems to have.

I've always liked Ronnie Price. I like his game. I like his attitude. He is more of a true point guard and he does have better defensive skills. I think he has the potential to be a Bobby Jackson and I would love to see the Kings give him a chance to be just that. PG of our future?...maybe. If he becomes a Bobby Jackson type - hits open shots, dishes out assists, hustles, scraps, pesters - then yes I could see him as our starting PG. But that will take time. And I would argue that time is what we have. Unfortunately, back to reality, he will not get the playing time he needs unless we are out of contention for that 8th seed.
