Ronnie Price anyone?

upinsmoke

All-Star
Ronnie is a unrestricted FA after this year and has as we all know plays with heart and plays good D not to mention his quickness.

Ronnie left us because he specifically wanted to play in his home state of Utah. I don't imagine he's looking to go anywhere else.

More like we didn't re-sign him. We had early bird rights if we wanted to use it.

Bird Rights does not equal restricted free agent. Early Bird rights would only have allowed us to exceed the cap to sign him. He was still free to sign with whatever team he wanted.

Point was we could've retained him back then. He was restricted and we had the advantage of EBR, not that it would've gone that far.

Sure, sign him up. We're not building a championship team anyways. Let us keep on wishing signing up and collecting mediocre players.

.

What this team needs is PGs that know how to run the team, get the others involved.....Price knows none of those things. He is a SG in a PG body. He is a decent shooter from long range, great athlete and tries on the defensive end but he is nothing more than a 3rd string PG in this league.

I think he's a little better than your giving him credit for. He's improved greatly since he orginally signed with us. I think he would be a very good back up pt guard for any team in the league. He does more than try on defense. He's a pretty good defender. His shooting has improved, as has his playmaking. First images are hard to discard, but you have to give a player the right to improve, and acknowledge when he does.

Do I think the Kings should presue him? No! I don't think he would be a good fit for this team at this time. But I don't think its necessary to discredit him because of it.

Price is sick..I wouldnt mind having him back, get rid of beno and have price behind our next starting point guard next year

Of course the Kings should draft a pg somewhere in the draft , still I think its a must to address the glaring weakness of not being able to stay in front of the opposing pg its one major reason the Kings perimeter defense is so bad.

i was a huge fan of price when he was on our team. he had so much hustle. he was a good spark off the bench diving for balls ext. his heart alone has gotten him pretty far in his careere, he was even starting for the jazz when d-will was out and he didnt do too bad of a job concidering the large shoes he was trying to fill. i still like the guy but i dont think he is for us. he is a good backup pg but we already have that in beno so we might as well try to find our starter somewhere elce.

also he only left because he got a better deal in his home state. we offeren him one year, utah offered him two, there was no animosity between him and the kings org.

Been there, done that....

That being said though...with guys like Beno Udrih and Bobby Jackson I wouldn't mind if there an infusion of youth and athleticism in our PG corps. Price is an athletic guard with defensive chops, but little else...but point guard defense is fairly valuable in this league, because many of them do their damage on the offensive side of the court. And our defense does need work. But his limitations are pretty severe--he possesses little playmaking ability, is trigger happy on his shot but is terribly streaky in his shooting. Not what we need.

rather we go after someone like farmar, who is losing all of his minutes to shannon brown.... the lakers dont need farmar anymore now that brown is playing so well....

He's worth a shot--young, has shown his past talents that he can play in this league (perhaps in the right system), and his value is so low that many teams may be overlooking him, so if there's a time to jump...this offseason's probably the time. I'm a little in limbo with him...just not sure about the guy's passing ability. I think he has it, latently, somehow, but he never showed much of anything in that with the Lakers; I've heard some murmurs that he's also pretty selfish, so don't know if he has a cockiness? problem with him. But it's a risk worth taking, he's an ender once we take him, and we could secure him on the cheap if the Lakers are looking to cut costs. Maybe even a 2nd rounder might get it done.

I'd be open to giving Farmar a look. Couldn't hurt. He's more pro-ready than any PG we're likely to get in this draft (assuming we get one at #23).

As far as I'm concerned the guy to go after is Ramon Sessions. I realize that he's a restricted free agent, but the Buck's are in finanical hell right now. Their over the cap. They have a high first round pick and two free agents that they have to sign in Sessions and Villanueva. Their GM has as much admitted that resigning both is probably not going to happen.

Sessions came off the bench for the first 40 games of the year and only averaged 3.4 assists a game. After the all star break he started the rest of the games. Here's a breakdown of that time period.

Feb: 18.5 PPG - 7.4 APG - 2.6 TO PG
March: 13.2 PPG - 7.0 APG - 2.0 TO PG
April: 14.0 PPG - 10.4 APG - 2.4 TO PG

He averaged right around 45% from the floor. His assist to turnover ratio is terrific. Were talking about a 6'3" very athletic point guard that only in his second year in the league. I liked him when he was at UNR. The Bucks don't want to lose him, but they're in a tough situation. I think we should make it tougher on them.

I am a big Ronnie Price fan and I was actually really disappointed that we didn’t retain him, but at this point – especially with having Beno, I’d rather try to grab another point guard…Even if we do sign Ronnie, I really wonder if we would even use him as a back-up or just let him sit on the bench. The poor guy was here and he showed effort, hustle and defense and the guy didn’t really get a shot.

I am actually interested in getting Jordan Farmar. If we can grab Rubio and have Jordan back him up I’d be happy.

I've been a huge promoter of Sessions as well. I personally believe that he could be a 20/10 guy for many seasons and he could step in next year and be way better than Rubio would be. Sure Rubio might have a ton of potential but I don't know if we want to wait 4 years for that to happen.

IMO, Sessions has been misused by Skiles. I don't know why but it just seems like Skiles has always had it in for him. It wasn't until Redd and Ridnour went down that Sessions was allowed to start. Maybe Skiles was instructed by management to limit his minutes so that they could resign him cheaper? I'm not sure. But I do know that Skiles had a man crush on Ridnour and would give him the minutes and rot Sessions on the bench. I never understood that.
