Ron Artest's dog - CBS 13 report

Typical pathetic and desparate Sac news media. Lets see if they can blow this into a Muss DUI relation. Wonder who they'll write about if the Kings left town... God forbid the political hypocrits that could cook them.

Oh good grief... This is even the LEAD story on the Ch. 3 11 o'clock news.

They say he's facing allegations of animal cruelty. It was a Great Dane taken from his home. "Failing to feed and nourish"... They're saying neighbors have complained the animal has been left "for months at a time in the back yard without food or nourishment."

Left for months at a time without food or nourishment? Okay, I'm not a veterinarian but I think an animal left for months at a time without food or nourishment would be .. how do I say this? ... dead?

LOL! Exactly what I was thinking.:D

In our neighborhood, a dog may not need to wait around to starve.

Bill was confronted by a rather large cat last week when he ran into the trees to hassel what he probably though was a squirrel. I called him back to the house while I inspected the area behind the house. He walked through the kitchen sliding-glass door, sat, and stared into to forest, being very polite, quiet, and most importantly, behind the glass door. Got cats?

...and where car chases break into real news so that people can watch the crash at the end?

Now, admittedly, when I lived there I loved a good car chase...:o
hahaha. Or how about SoCal, where following a certain white bronco all over the place with news helicopters and live reports was considered major news, worthy of stopping all other television! Sorry, Sacramento news media most emphatically do not have the market on ridiculous and mind-bogglingly unimportant news.

hmmmm...I think Sacramento news media have failed to be first to report on a celebrity not wearing underwear. tsk, tsk.

Just how LARGE a cat was it?

;)

Didn't see it. Heard it. They usually weigh less than 160 pounds. During that week, this place was like a friggin non-petting zoo. First time for a coyote on the front porch. Rackoon on the driveway. Foxes all around. Yellow eyes in a spotlight shown off the back deck. The birds!

I dont meant to be a party pooper or anything but animal cruelty is nothing really to have a laugh over. (I understand that it may not have warranted a Breaking News thing on the news)

But Ron Artest is a good palyer who happens to be a ****!

No one is advocating animal cruelty, RKid. What we're saying is that this is NOT a breaking news story; if it was anyone other than Ron Artest it wouldn't have even made the news. The allegations on their face actually appear ridiculous. It seems pretty obvious this was intentionally leaked to the media for whatever reason...

And Ch. 3 chose to lead their story with a 15-second clip of the brawl. Care to explain how that relates to the issue of animal cruelty?

Aha. I thought that just might be the type of feline you were referring to...

You may have a plethora of four-legged beasties but you haven't lived until you've looked out your back door and seen a 350 lb. bear standing on your back porch!!!

Ok so I maybe Im a little sensitive on the matter then. And yeah its pretty out of the norm for the breaking news part.

But it is what is is and artests is still a ****!

Uh...from So Cal? Home of Hollywood, tabloids and celebrity "real" news?

Yeah, yeah, I know. I may live in LA right now, but that doesn't mean I am LA. In actuality, I never hear any celebrity news because I don't bother to read it or watch it, so it doesn't affect me. And actually, Northen California and Southern California are a lot more alike than people like to think (as someone who's lived in each for about half of my life). Most of the supposed differences break down to prejudices and stereotypes. For example this whole 'one sport cow town with nothing better to do than gossip about NBA players' mentality that certain people have used to defame Kings fans which is not helped at all by stories like this. That's more or less what I meant.

I don't think its confined to any city or town in the country, unfortunately. In that regard, I think Sacramento is the same as LA, NY, Omaha or Idaho Falls in some of the stuff that passes for "news."

I grew up in the SoCal area. Anaheim, Glendale, Canoga Park and Palos Verdes, in that order. ;) Alike in some ways and very different in other ways.

I grew up near Sacramento, worked in Anaheim Hills area for 2.5 years after college, and moved back up here ASAP. Drove me nuts living down there between the smog and the traffic.

Goodbye and good riddance, I say.

I was down there from early 1996 through mid 1998 and happened to be home sick from work the day of the famous bank robbery and shootout.

http://www.cnn.com/US/9702/28/shootout.update/

I was flipping channels and thought it was a movie at first, but soon realized it was a real bank robbery and settled in to see what would happen when they came out.

I tell ya, that was one breaking news event I watched glued to the TV. Amazing.

Other than that and feeling a couple small earthquakes, blah. You can have it.

No tolerance for animal cruelty from me. ranks with abusing children, little old ladies and basically anything or anyone that is helpless to defend themselves.

I just found it humorous that channel 13 actually "broke" the story with a crawl during a television show. Like it couldn't wait for the 11 o' clock news?

VF21: I could not believe they opened the story with that clip of the brawl either.

If there was any actual abuse that ocurred, then Artest and whoever else might be responsible needs to be punished the same as anyone else. Altho, it angers me that punishment is slight no matter how bad the abuse is.

Ron Artest is Mike Tyson with basketball shoes. Sorry, but it's no coincidence that stupid things happen wherever he's around.

Good player. Good trade material. Below average human being.

I hope he's gone soon, despite his talent on the floor.

This is complete BS. Ron Artest is indeed a good man. Among other things, he allegedly supports about 15 people, including all of his nieces and nephews. The dog thing is BS also. I suspect he has a neighbor that has far too little to do. They are everywhere.

Placer seizes Artest dog
Authorities, saying the Great Dane was underfed, take the animal from the Kings player's home.

Placer County animal services officers have seized a dog belonging to Sacramento Kings star Ron Artest on suspicion of failure to adequately feed the animal.

Animal Services officers issued a "pre-seizure" notice to Artest on Jan. 30, warning that they would take Socks, a black female Great Dane, into protective custody if the situation was not remedied, according to a county report obtained by The Bee.

On Monday, officers returned and seized Socks, citing a law that requires animal caretakers to "provide proper sustenance." According to the post-seizure report, Artest can request a hearing within 10 days of the notice date.

In an e-mail message sent to The Bee late Tuesday night, Artest said, "I'm glad to say all problems are solved now, and I'm looking forward to getting my dog back."

County spokeswoman Anita Yoder said the Great Dane is in the care of a local veterinarian. She declined to elaborate further except to say that officers are continuing to investigate.

The president of the homeowners association for Artest's gated neighborhood said Tuesday that animal services had been to the Artest residence prior to January.

Allan Frumkin, who heads the Sierra Ridge Estates Homeowners Association, also said residents have come to him with concerns about the welfare of dogs kept at Artest's home.

"That says two things: One, there's some nice people here," Frumkin said. "Two, those dogs weren't being properly cared for."

Artest said in his e-mail that when he left last week for a road trip, "my dog watcher was feeding both my dogs and my American bulldog dominated all the food."

When he got back, Artest said, "I realized Socks lost a lot of weight. So I immediately isolated Socks in a separate room in my garage to eat and gain some weight back."

The next day, he said, animal control officers took the dog.

"The other times my dogs were escaping the half-acre gated area I had for them, and the animal police would always bring them back," Artest said.

The basketball star and aspiring rap artist moved into his home in the Sierra Ridge Estates, an exclusive neighborhood of 18 homes in rural Loomis, in the spring of 2006.

Artest purchased the property last February for $1.85 million, according to property records. The 6,571-square-foot house includes five bedrooms, four fireplaces and a five-car garage, records show.

Artest told The Bee during a July interview that he loved his new 5-acre property. He also said he kept seven large dogs there, including a bull mastiff, a Great Dane and a pit bull.

In the summer of 2006 -- Frumkin said he can't remember which month -- the association president was driving by Artest's home and saw that Animal Services was there.

Frumkin said homeowners began coming to him with reports of perceived neglect of Artest's dogs prior to that Animal Services visit.

"They seemed starved for attention and starved for food," Frumkin said neighbors told him.

The allegations have so upset neighbors that a committee revising the association's rules decided to include a new stipulation that residents must properly care for their animals.

"These are really nice people that live out here," Frumkin said.

"We don't like to see this type of thing go on."

Association members are scheduled to vote on the new CC&Rs, including the animal care clause, on Sunday.

IMHO, the president of the homeowner's association is the one who most likely leaked this incredibly compelling story to the media. And it sounds as though they're not real happy having an NBA player in their midst. It just does not ring true...

Well, I pity the fool, living in an "association" environment would be a fate worse than death for me. I know Ron's travel schedule probably requires the security provisions and all. Don't get me wrong, I live in a gaited community, but the gates just keep the horses out of the garden:D . I'm sure Ron will get his animals situated and then the "association" members can begin their inspections of someone else's living habits. Lord spare ya from the do gooders Ron Ron.

I don't think his family lives here year round. If you read between the lines just a little, I think you might see that the neighbors in the "exclusive neighborhood" just might not be real happy with dogs occasionally getting loose, an NBA star living in their midst, and who knows what else.
