Ron Artest

I am sick and tired of all this speculation that Ron Artest is not getting along with Bibby, Coach Muss, Petrie, the bench, his mother, and even Slamson. It is all speculation because the Kings can't seem to win close games with contenders (save pheonix once and dallas once) and because Ron took a couple games off with sore knees. Here is a thought: Maybe the man actually has sore knees. It obviously was affecting him in Dallas, seeing as Josh freaking Howard dropped 29 on him. Give him a pass for having an injury and just see what happens. He has been a good citizen off the court and his play on the court warrants none of this disrespect. He misses two games and people want to trade him. That is bad. I agree he missed them in a wierd manner, but nothing extremely out of the ordinary, he was probably having a hard decision on whether or not to play. He's not bailing on the team, he isn't a 'quitter,' he is just a sore man. We are three games below .500 right now, in the middle of the west, with an easier stretch of games coming up and people are talking about scrapping the whole project and rebuilding. Those are the same people who didn't watch the Kings when they were absolutely DREADFUL. Give them a chance, its a new coach and things are supposed to be creaky through the first 30 or so games.

If he misses games with injuried then fine, let him sit it out and rest it. The thing that gets me is that when he misses road games he doesn't travel with the team.

I think the whole question here is whether or not Artest is actually injured. Do I know the answer? Nope. I just know what I read in the papers and hear from people who were at the game where he came up with a last-second case of "sore knees." They reported seeing him practicing, looking okay...

I don't care if Ron Artest is the best player on the planet. If he's going to have these mysterious aches and pains - sore back from squeezing into his wife's car and sore knees from some unknown cause - then I'm going to look at him as a problem. And if there is ANY thought that he's doing this for some reason known only to himself, I'm going to wish him out the door in a heartbeat.

I'm merely venting at this moment, but I do not want our Kings to go through what the Pacers went through.

Anybody who believes that last minute game withdrawal on the basis of "sore knees" is legit - I have a bridge to sell you.

Any last minute injury has to do with something *sudden* (sprain, pulled muscle, tweaked back), not two weeks of soreness (that noone has any clue about).

I don't give a FF what Indiana fans have to say or any other NBA fans for that matter, but I do care how Kings' player act, behave and what do they say. If Ron thinks that he will become Kobe-type superstar and get Kobe/LeBron type of money and respect by acting out from time to time he's got another thing coming. This is his last chance in the NBA not just with the Kings. Last chance.

As I said in another thread I'm supporting Ron and giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Let's go Ron. Get healthy and let's do some damage.

You can give him the benefit of the doubt and support him, but still harbor some concerns, Doc.

I truly want to believe that he's not resorting to his old habits. I just don't want to have to live through with the Pacers fans endured should their warnings have all been true...

It's like the old saying: Don't put all your eggs in one basket. There's a corollary - If you do put all your eggs in one basket, WATCH the basket!

I happen to have a lot of respect for some Pacer fans, especially the ones who occasionally visit this board. They haven't been disrespectful, they've merely said for us to watch out.

Artest came here with a LOT of baggage. We hoped and prayed he had put it all into a closet, locked the door and thrown away the key. BUT if we start seeing pieces of Samsonite lying around, isn't it being more than a little naive not to at least wonder?

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Hopefully, Ron did learn from what happened up until his arrival in Sacramento. If he didn't, it's the Sacramento Kings (owners, players, fans, etc.) who are going to be paying the price in the long run.

I'm watching the basket, but this guy hasn't done one thing off the court to make me believe different. He questioned some schemes. How many players have done this, or have reportedly done that.

If he hauls off and blasts a player in practice, or blasts a fan THEN I'll say ok, there's a problem. If players start coming out and saying he's causing problems. If Geoff Petrie starts admitting there are problems I'll believe it.

Until then I'm not going to push this guy away, question his mental state, etc., like other cities have. We're Sacramento, we're better than that. Let's support one of our guy's.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment...

...but this guy hasn't done one thing off the court to make me believe different.

Actually all you can really say is this guy hasn't done one thing off the court THAT WE'VE HEARD ABOUT...

I'm just going to remain a little skeptical. But I totally understand your points. And it doesn't mean I don't support Artest.

Of course, I respect Pacers fans too. Apart from this forum, Pacers Digest is the best fan basketball site on the internet. I don't mean them any disrespect, I simply judge Ron as King only and I have reason for concern.

Just thougth I clarify that since PD guys hang around here and I like them and their contribution to KF.com.

Yeah!

You wanna know what I'M worried about.....? All the things we haven't heard that Kevin Martin is up to.

I haven't heard a single thing about him hanging out with OP, Rod Strickland, Isaiah Rider and Kermit Washington... I haven't heard anything about his undermining the authority of Muss at practices, while sowing seeds of discontent through the locker room... And finally I have yet to hear a SINGLE thing about his off the court sexual antics with al-queda agents and communist simpathisers.

Frankly, It all has me worried.
