Rockets @ Kings Game Thread

Or you could lose 65 games and still end up in the worst possible position:cool:

Of course that worked out for the best for us.

Yes, but the beauty of that was that BECAUSE we lost 65 games, we could not drop any further.

We absolutely 100% got Tyreke Evans by being so awful. A couple more wins and we end up picking 6th and maybe nabbing Johnny Flynn.

Though if we got the 1st pick, we would have ended up with Blake Griffin.

Or not.

The beauty of picking #1, or as high as possible, is it opens up MORE doors, not less. You take Griffin. Or you take Reke. Or you trade down and take Reke.

True true. Though, I can only imagine how the Grizzlies and Clippers feel about passing on Reke (The Thunder notsomuch. I don't think there would be enough shots to go around between Westbrook, Durant, Reke and Green to be viable.).

What did he say?

He basically said, "Thanks to the great fans for sticking with us during a tough season. We're going to get better soon." I don't really see how tanking entered into it, frankly. Just sorry we're bad, thanks for your support.

Not so sure. Couple more wins and would have still only been tied w/Washington. And even then, if Washington were ahead of us, they probably wouldn't have traded out of the 4 spot w/Minnesota. Washington still might have passed on Evans. I don't think they were dying to get him, otherwise they wouldn't have traded out of the 5 spot.

Actually, from what I've heard, Washington was in love with an Evans/Arenas back court, but didn't think he would last until #5. Besides, they were hoping for the playoffs, and traded the pick to shred salary and pick up veteran players.

I know the Grizzles definitely regret it, but we still don't know what Griffin will do next season. And let's be fair, if we had the #1 pick, we would have picked Griffin. No question about it.

Im really not sure how anyone could be against losing at this point. Do you want Demarcus Cousins/Derrick Favors or do you want Cole Aldrich/Epke Udoh/Greg Monroe? Being a 26 win team isnt more rewarding than being a 25 win team.

Exactly. BUt barring a 20-10 season, Griffin can't live up to the seasons that Reke and even Curry have had.

Was it just me or did the Ref's have a bad game? Seemed that both ways they just missed a lot of calls in this game. Not favoring either team, just a badly officiated game.

Anyway, Good Job Evans!!! Forever will be known as the Rookie who made 20/5/5 ! Should be enough for the ROY. If not, the NBA will have another huge black mark on them. Good Job Kings ! Better days are ahead.

Minnesota loved Evans -- he wasn't getting past them.

Except there's still two issues before you get to that conclusion of what Minnesota would do: Whether Washington gets the 4th pick w/2 more wins. (Maybe after a coin flip). And whether Washington trades w/Minnesota if they have the 4th pick. (Maybe).

I'm not saying they would have taken Reke with the Flynn pick -- I'm saying that they probably would have taken Reke over Rubio -- he went in and tore up the other PGs at a group workout they had (did that in Milwaulkee too I think it was) and they wanted him badly.

Who wanted him badly? Minnesota? I'm not contesting that. I'm saying they would never have gotten the chance to draft Evans if Washington got the 4th pick and the Kings had the 5th.

Minnesota needed to trade to get Washington's 5th pick. If Washington had the 4th pick, it would have been much more valuable and the asking price might have been more than what Minnesota wanted to give for #4.

On top of that, there's still more issues to work out in the hypothetical, like, with the new arrangement of ping pong balls, maybe the Kings move up in the draft to #1 instead of falling to 5.

We were #4, Minn #5, Wash #6. We screw up and win a few more its Minn #4, Wsh #5, us #6 -- remember all three of those teams were not selected by ping pong balls, just inverse order of finish. So we "beat" them in the standings, it does nothing except sink us unnecessarily down the draft order and cost us Tyreke.

Our losing those extra games last year was quite literally a franchise turning moment. Maybe even a Sacramento franchise saving moment, as if we had ended up drafting Flynn, we are still lousy and without hope, there's no chance for a fan revival, and with the arena issue still teetering, the Maloofs could lose interest, especially with a long lockout perhaps looming. You wait decades to draft a rookie like Tyreke, ANYTHING which threatens you getting him is inherently idiotic, let alone some completely menaningless games at the end of the season.
