Rock Band Draft - Round 6 (Wrap Up)

Stuck on campus with two hours to burn between classes today (stupid canceled study group), I came up with the most unbelievably awesome band in creation. Too bad I didn't join this draft.

Unless I have a work interruption I will post my pick very shortly after I take the clock at noon. Of course my head could explode by then - as of this very second I am not a thousand percent sure who I will take because there is a player on the board significant enough to make me blow up my whole plan... we will see.

But I will not gratuitously bogart the clock don't worry.

You are very kind.

Interview questions:

You have an impressive resume mate one would expect you to be snatched up by now. Why are you looking for a job? Are there skeletons in your closet? Character issues we should be concerned about?

You are accustomed to being the star of the band with a bunch of sidemen, and doing all the writing, arranging and singing (except for your covers). Can you work in a collaborative environment where Paul and I do the bulk of the writing?

I’m already billed as lead guitar. You’d have to be billed as lead vocal, second lead guitar. Can you live with that? In reality we’ll weave baby…ever do any open G stuff?

The bass player fancies himself quite a singer. Can you share the mike with him and the rest of the band?

Are you willing to lose the initials on the guitar? It’s just a little, you know, David Cook’ish… is that cool?

POSITION ACCEPTED!!!!

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Lead Vocal, Second Lead Guitar

Nice choice. I thought about him as well

Heh -- I thought he was gone. All the other (well almost all) legendary type solo artist guitarists were snapped up -- Santana, Vai, Satriani etc., and I guess I just assumed that Stevie Ray must have been too. Not a loss to my particular band because of stylistic concerns, but still odd.

I think this speaks to the need to have a second rock-band draft that excludes those selected here.

I am in. Whover wants to commission should step up and get in the draft line. As these go pretty quickly, you may be able to get permission to start it after this one is over.

Great choice. I think he would fit in nicely with your band.

Speaking of fitting in, I wonder how a guitar guru will mesh with the "weaving" and odd open tunings of Keith Richards...

Technicality is nothing when you have a guy like SRV. He was one of the best, and like you said, he was a guitar guru. A guru can fit wherever he wants.

Except, in SRV's case, the billboard top 40? Just teasing! :D

that's why we made it clear to SRV that we already had hitmaker song writers in the band.

Which reminds me: What was the last thing the drummer said before he was kicked out of the band?

"hey fellas, listen to some songs I wrote".

Band joke time?

What's the difference between a guitar player and a savings bond?
A savings bond will eventually mature and earn money.

Im going to school very soon, so here's the abbreviated form.

Steve Smith
Drums
Journey ... And a whole lot more...Look at his Wiki page.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Smith_(musician)

Because I love Journey and see a happy mixture with the rest of my band.
...Just listen to the solo...He could do whatever I asked of him!
He is awesome!

...And I just love Journey!
:p

Drum Expertise...

I got one. If a girl that follows a band around is called a groupie, what do you call a guy that follows a band around?

A bass player

Another pick from me that probably looks bad to most of you. But in my mind, this would sound great. I think I must be insane.

Kim Deal - Bass - Back-up vocals (from The Pixies)

Man, I can't believe this. After Prince, this is just the second woman drafted.

Obviously Kim Deal is not the most technically wowwing and amazing bass player. She doesn't need to be on a band with Clapton and Yorke and my 5th pick. What she is, is an excellent rhythmic bass line player, and many of her bass lines are what make some of The Pixies tracks just that extra level of special.

But what I really, really love about her is her voice. Its just different. Almost haunting, much like Thom's and I think it will fit perfectly. She will be doing a lot more back-up than Clapton will. Most of my favorite Pixies songs are either led sung by Deal or feature her a lot on back up (like "Gigantic" or "I Bleed").

Now if songwriting factored into this I would have the hat-trick. She wrote a ton of The Pixies' best.

I believe this comment is coming from a place of jealousy.

Haha, not quite. And while I'm not huge on Prince's music, without him we wouldn't have that Chappelle's Show sketch on him and his in-home basketball game versus Eddie and Charlie Murphy, which is quite literally one of the best variety show sketches in TV history.

Oh, and the real #1 woman was Diva Plavalaguna :D I didn't forget her!
