Rise Guys and nixed NJ Artest trade

Rise Guys this morning said something about NJ having been in discussions about a trade involving Ron-Ron which is apparently dead at this point. Anyone have any other details?

I'm thinking it was probably more of a GM "brainstorming" call than any kind of "trade", if true, but hard to say with so little info.

Management has been very active all season. They turned down offers of Sacramento's Ron Artest and the Clippers' offer of Corey Maggette. They continue to talk to teams and may look for help at swingman now. But if Carter, who has been mentioned in trade rumors, can get on a roll, that would alleviate some of the Jefferson loss.

Which would make sense -- Jefferson is a 6'7" shooter.

IMO he's more of a 6'7" slasher than a shooter, which would fit the recent Martin/Salmons trend of getting guys who can run and get to the hoop (also signaled by the interest in Maggette). It seems like management is trying to find guys who fit more of an up-tempo style as we slowly make the transition to building around Martin.

It may have been nixed further in the past -- weeks ago or whatnot.

Although...our fornt office probably lacks this moxie, but if you were going to trade Ron for Jefferson, and Jefferson was hurt, it would be a way to trade for a talent (not an equal talent mind you, indeed this is right on the level of the Maggette trade) while simultaneously making a run at that draft pick. Tehn you could hope that next year you could start Martin/Jefferson/high draft pick together

Can you trade for an injured player? Do they waive the requirement to complete a physical?

Franklin Edwards and Derrick Smith come to mind. I think Derrick was cleared but Edwards hand was still broken when we traded for him, if I remember right.

Yup, Edwards only played in 24 games in 2 seasons for us.

Brent Price never suited up for us at all, just went to Oklahoma and sat at home, IIRC.

I'm sure you can -- you can always waive the physical and just accept the player as is, or just conduct the physical being aware of the injury. And now with no more IR in the NBA, its not like there's even an official list of who's injured or who's just sitting out, so don't see how it could be prohibited.
